Been a Seymour fan since 1980. 4 of my 5 guitars have a Seymour bridge unit if that says anything. If want the best, get Seymour!

  • Hot, but not too hot...
This review is from: Seymour Duncan SP90-1B Guitar Pickup, Black As a dyed in the wool P-90 lover, I was a little hesitant to go with a P-90 quite this hot. However, I am quite pleased with the voice of this SP-902b in my exceptionally bright Faded SG Special(yes, it's heavily modified with P-90's instead of humbuckers). The good: it definately adds muscle to a guitar with a tendency to be a little too bright and anemic in the bridge position. Mississippi Queen on this pickup kills, frankly. The bad: this pickup does not clean up as well as a vintage voiced P-90. You sacrifice some of the old P-90 high end for warmth and muscle, though it blends quite well with the Gibson P-90 in the neck for some wonderful jazzy clean tones. Also, as a plastics injection molder, I was a little miffed to see blushing on the pickup's cover. Not a big deal for a guitar that ain't so pretty to begin with, but production flaws like that should not be on a cosmetic part like a pickup cover. Need to check up on your Plastics and Quality Control departments, Seymour... In short, this is overdrive loving rocker's P90, not a pickup to play rockabilly on. It will never take the place of the vintage P-90 in my '50's Les Paul Junior, but it's perfect for a modern SG that needed some girth in the bridge position. Good pickup. ... show more
