  • Nice safe for the home
Size: 1.2 Cubic Feet (Extra-Large)
Not fire or water resistant but if you purchase those special bags to protect from water or fire and put your money or documents in them you will have saved hundreds of dollars not buying a safe with those features

  • The beeping is loud and annoying, but there's a fix...
Size: 0.4 Cubic Feet (Small)
This little "safe" is just about perfect for what I needed. Would I keep the crown jewels in it?... nope. Will it keep little hands away from a loaded handgun?... you betcha. Does it fit nicely on my closet shelf?... yep. The only downside is the electronic keypad makes a VERY loud beeping sound with every press. The kind of sounds I'm not looking to make in the middle of the night while going for my gun. Easy fix: open the door, remove the three screws holding the cover plate to the backside of the door, pop the circuit board off of its holder, find the piezo (little round cylindrical speaker with a hole in the center), grab some pliers, pull it off the circuit board, and chuck it in the trash. Problem fixed. While doing this, the ribbon cable (that runs between the keypad and circuit board) came off. Pay attention to its orientation and it slips back in where it came out. ... show more

  • Perfect after a quick, easy modification
Size: 0.5 Cubic Feet (Medium)
First, let's dispell the myth of the "uncrackable" safe. Applying such an unreasonable standard is nonsense for any safe because EVERY safe is vulnerable in some way. SentrySafe specifically states that this is to deter the "opportunistic" thief, so this is not expected to thwart the professional criminal with power tools handy. Read my recommendations below and you will be able to keep your belongings secure against most minor to mid-level attempts at breaking into the safe. I was undecided on whether to select the SentrySafe X055 Security Safe or the Stack-On PS-514 Personal Safe with Electronic Lock and chose the SentrySafe because YouTube is LOADED with quick, easy ways to break into the Stack-on PS-514. More than likely, most of the same techniques are also easily applied to the SentrySafe, but I just went with the one that was less visible on YouTube. There was also a small price difference in favor of the SentrySafe. I did like Stack-on's time-out period that goes into effect after three failed entry attempts using the passcode, but with the modifications I describe below it is less important. Here is my recommendation to **REALLY** secure the safe: 1. Bolt this baby to the floor! If you are burgled and this isn't bolted down, the burglers will not waste their time trying to crack the safe, they are just going to take it with them! 2. This should be common sense, but do not make the passcode your birthday or your anniversary, or anything else so painfully obvious and easy to look up. 3. Here is my modification: I added a Refrigerator Door Lock with Padlock - Black with a Sesamee K436 4 Dial Bottom Resettable Combination Brass Padlock with 1-Inch Hardened Steel Shackle and 10,000 Potential Combinations . This means that even if you can crack the digital padlock or keyhole on the safe, you still have to either cut the cable on the refrigerator lock or somehow break through the Sesamee K436 4 Dial Bottom Resettable Combination Brass Padlock with 1-Inch Hardened Steel Shackle and 10,000 Potential Combinations . I opted for Sesamee because of all the online videos on how to bypass a MasterLock padlock (it is easy). This will only slow down a burglar, but most teens or children (or other nosy family and friends) will be unwilling to actually damage the refrigerator lock or padlock in a way that makes it obvious that it has been tampered with. 4. I keep the spare safe keys in a Master Lock 5400D Select Access Key Storage Box with Set-Your-Own Combination Lock, 1-Pack discreetly placed in another room of the house. Yes, there are a total of three combinations to remember, but they are necessary for maximum security against unauthorized access. The modification is done for the purpose of keeping others out, and it does make it slower to get into the safe, so if you keep a loaded firearm in there in case of an intruder, you may not want to add an extra step for access that might slow you down. It depends on your priorities and what you are trying to keep safe. The refrigerator lock protects against typical break-in methods like lock picking, "bumping," and the way-too-easy paperclip tricks which these kinds of safes are susceptible to. It still isn't "unbreakable," but it is WAY more difficult to get into without the codes and is only a few seconds more for me to get into. For those of you who need a locked place to store things with very little threat of someone trying to pick the lock, this safe is fine as-is. If you have someone living with you or someone who has regular access that may be apt to try to break into the safe, I recommend this modification. There is additional security in redundancy. ... show more

  • Great box for the price.
Size: 0.5 Cubic Feet (Medium)
I have two of these boxes now that are bolted to either a wall or shelf. One in the bedroom and one in another part of the house. I keep a couple handguns locked up. These safes are easy to program and are very secure from the standpoint it will keep kids and other unauthorized individuals from accessing handguns, pepper spray, ammunition, etc. The box will not withstand an actual theft attempt. I believe with a small pry bar and hammer that I could get into this less than 60 seconds. I could be wrong, if not bolted down or screwed into a stud, then the box could just be carried off. Regardless, the point of this safe is not to withstand a home burglary, where the bad guy has minutes to locate and work on getting into the safe. If bolted down, the bad guy may clean out the easy stuff and get out. What this safe will do is give peace of mind to the responsible gun owner. Change the factory default code, don't write it down for kids to find it, don't make an easily guessed code, etc., and there will be no worries about children getting hurt by handling the firearm without adult supervision. The number one safety precaution is knowledge. We have one college student who when was very young we started teaching firearms safety. Take away the mystery, teach the Eddie Eagle (google it) safety principles. We lock up our firearms, but that doesn't mean every other house our child visits does the same! We are teaching the same thing to our youngest and she is learning that a firearm is a tool just like the kitchen knives, tools in the garage, the stove, lighters, etc. Little off tangent there, but there should be zero child deaths because kids found "hidden" guns. I give a four star, just nit picking, but the buttons for me could protrude just a little bit more, they are a little mushy and I find the knob a bit small for my big paws. The keypad does not light up. I unlock the one in the bedroom at night by opening the door and with the door open turn the knob to extend the two locking lugs. Now the door can not close, there is no way in the middle of the night in the dark that one will quickly access this box. If looking for those features, i.e., lighted pad, big knob that won't slip out of your hand when in a hurry, then this is not the safe for you. I am in the routine for over 15 years now that I put my wallet and keys on my tall dresser by this safe, so when I wake up in the morning, I unlock the safe, close the door and then turn knob so it is secured until bedtime. ... show more

  • It will keep your maid or children out but:
Size: 1.2 Cubic Feet (Extra-Large)
Any relatively strong man could break it open with little effort. More of a prevention than a real safe. Real safes cost $$$$. Keeps my maid and kids at bay. Great for medication.

  • Are you for the money
Size: 1.2 Cubic Feet (Extra-Large)
Valuable jewelry and documents

  • NOT WATER/FIRE PROOF
Size: 0.9 Cubic Feet (Large)
Warning - there are holes in the back of the safe for you to secure it to a wall or something... If there was water or fire it could easily go into the holes so your stuff inside is not safe. Something to consider.
