Top Amazon Reviews

  • Hunk-a-Junk!
Style: Safe
This is a truly terrible product. I bought this item this past summer and have had a number of problems with it. First, I should say that I did read the bad reviews before purchasing, but since there were so many positive ones, I thought that the problems that were raised were overstated and/or exaggerated. From the start, I did find that this safe was very hard to open. I am a young(ish) and strong Amazon-woman type and was shocked by how much strength it took me to open this; this item is likely to be completely unusable to the elderly and people with disabilities. I probably should have returned it immediately but, since this wasn't something I was planning to get into on a regular basis, I decided that it would probably work fine. About a month later, while trying to retrieve my passport for a flight that night, I couldn't get into it! I was panicked, and it took three people nearly an hour to get it open! Over the last few months I've basically been unable to get into this box when I've tried. At first I found it amusing because, on a few occasions, I was trying to get access to the small sum of cash I keep on hand for "emergencies" and, on those occasions, I was basically looking to use that cash for something that was not an emergency. This week, however, I needed to get into it again to get some documents and, once again, I could not open it! Again, a few other people tried it, though none of us could not get it to open. Fearing that I'd have to pay a locksmith to open it, I decided to see if I could force it open. The object closest to hand was an upholstery tacking tool. I was able to pry the box open with little to no effort. Happily, this meant that I could get to the items I needed, but it also means that the box is officially damaged and can no longer be used. This item is designed in such a way that there is a second lock engagement, separate to the key mechanism, which seems to get jammed so, once you turn the key, you're supposed to push in this button, which is meant to open the box; the button is the part that seems to be failing. Who knows if this box is actually fire proof, luckily I never had to test that part out, but it is clear that it is not easy to get in and out of, and it is certainly not burglar proof. I would steer clear of this one! ... show more

  • Believe what you read... I didn't and wasted my time. don't buy this
Style: Safe
It's moments like this that I enjoy buying from Amazon. I read the reviews warning people that this Sentry box was not made well. I figured they were all crazy. I had one of these things for years and loved it but somehow no longer had it. So I purchased one despite reading the warnings. I guess Sentry is now part of that made in China crap we buy. I received shipment from Amazon and the box was perfect. Took the fire safe out and it was nasty, grimy and covered in a greasy powder. Looked like it had been used at a construction site. Called Amazon who promptly refunded my money but I became curious as to what was on the fire safe. I proceeded to clean it up and voila! The top breaks off in my hand. Apparently the hinge is just concrete (?) or some fire safe material poured into plastic and was probably dropped during shipment. Needless to say they just don't make em like they used to. As other reviewers noted, the latch is also pure garbage. Don't waste your money, there are better options including finding a vintage unit on CL. See photos ... show more

  • All Sentry Safes like this have the same key.
Style: Safe
I bought a Sentry fire safe much like this one years and years and years ago. I decided that since my niece wanted a space that she could keep some of her stuff in that only she would have the key to....I bought this one here. When this one got here I moved all my stuff from the old safe to the new one and gave my niece the old one with the two keys that came with it. I guess she got curious and tried to unlock my safe with her key and it worked. So we tried the key to my safe in hers and it worked. Sentry should not be able to market this as a safe for valuables and I quote from the description, "KEY LOCK: Fire resistant safe has a privacy key lock to keep unwanted viewers away and prevent the lid from opening in the event of fire; includes two keys", when one key can open all the safes. This helped me to understand how some valuable coins were stolen from my safe and I didn't find out till yesterday. I'm very upset about this and will be returning this safe for a different product. ... show more

  • Just needs a little press
Style: Safe
Okay, i couldn’t get my safe to open. Returned to the reviews for help. All had the same problem. I then, went to YouTube for help. Here’s the deal. Once, you turn the key to unlock the box, press down on the very top above the logo. ( on, the grey part) and press the release button at the same time. I’ve been doing it over and over to make sure this process works and it does. Hope, this helps. ... show more

  • Don't buy this piece of junk!!!
Style: Safe
Piece of junk - bought for my husband for Christmas and when he took it out of the closet today ( only a month and a half later) and set it on the bed, the lid broke off! Very disappointed in quality of product and naturally, my Amazon return window has expired.
