  • Great sound quality, but some shortcomings.
I wanted cordless hi fidelity earbuds, but had some budget limitations. These met my needs expectations to a degree. When they are used with the cordless neckband, they are only OK. They simply don't generate the volume I was looking for and the battery life is only so-so. And the neck band isn't as liberating as having fully wireless, independent ear buds. HOWEVER, they are convertible for use with a cord. While this eliminates the cordless feature, it also eliminates the battery life issue. More importantly, the sound is superb and plays notably louder. Bottom line: get 'em for the sound quality, but get the connection cord so you can utilize them both ways. ... show more

  • These Are $500 Headphones
About 2 years ago I wanted a pair of in-ear headphones with good sound quality. I was getting tired of listening to the AirPods Pros and needed something fatter that could offer more detail & depth. I originally spent $300 on the Sennheiser Momentum 2 and at first I liked them, but could tell no matter how loud I made them, there was still this "hollowed out" sound I couldn't sit with. They sounded good, but it wasn't enough. After researching Sennheiser's website I found their most expensive In-Ear Headphones at the time The IE 80s BT for $500. Built in DAC. Lossless Bluetooth Audio Codecs. I didn't know much about digital audio converters or bluetooth codecs but I knew wired was better, because I used to have the Bose QC15 and going wireless was never the same. These headphones essentially brought the resolution comparable to CD quality. What a leap in Technology! I check amazon, and it's on sale for $300! The same price as the Momentums! Perfect! The sound quality was exactly what I was looking for. I have the Nuraphones, I have the Sennhieser 6xx from Massdrop, I have a pair of Yamaha HS5 studio monitors. Sony wh-1000xm2, Bose Quietcomfort 15 & 20 and late IE2 Bose in-ear headphones. I have Skullcandy ink'd, AirPods and AirPods pro. When I want full immersion for my listening, the IE 80s BT are my go to every time. These headphones will change the way you listen to music, and are well worth the compromises. I compromise on form factor and battery life for high fidelity audio. Using the comply tips they fit snuggly in the ear, and so comfortable I easily forget about them. The loop around the ear so they stay in, sometimes it can get annoying with glasses or wearing a mask around my ears, but again worth the slight inconvenience. Watching movies are incredible... You get so much detail the sound brings you into the scene. You can put them at full volume and literally feel the kick drum and snare hits beating against your eardrum. The sound stage is impeccable... after 2 years of using these headphones they still manage to exceed my expectations. The sound is remarkable and they do not disappoint. There are hiccups with the product... I prefer to have an uninterrupted listening experience but occasionally the headphones will say "headphones disconnected" then immediately resume. I know the bluetooth codecs are transmitting a lot of data, but it doesn't need to waste its breath to tell me it skipped like a vinyl record. Another slight annoyance is sometimes upon powering on the connection says it's there but the music doesn't play, so then I have to hold the power button so it goes into pairing as restarts....because the pairing button is the power button. I appreciate the onboard volume control. They are soft and click, and they move the volume in half steps so you can find the perfect volume to fill your ears. Theres also a little beep when you reach the highest volume so you know the limit. I wish there was a way to turn off that functionality but it's easy to live with. The manual base adjustment is great... just set it to the middle... too much bass can cause ear fatigue and cloud the music, and too little isn't enough. I lost my bass adjustment key so it's staying there :D They also come in handy for phone calls or discord when I'm cross platform gaming with friends, because I can wear the gaming headset over one ear and still talk through the mic around the neck loop. I recommend these headphones to any friend that appreciates listening to music, I even buy it for family & friends as birthday presents because this purchase has brought the simple pleasure of good listening back to it's ideal state. in my life, and they were $300 at the time. ... show more

  • Why not a single company can nail both sound quality and good user experience in a neckband?
I have had tried a number of Sennheiser headphones over the years, some wired, some wireless and was overall pleased with the performance and user experience. I had very high hopes for these earphones. I'll start with the good. Bluetooth works pretty well. There is occasional stutter, but you can't have perfect reception in every environment. The sound quality is decent. The build quality is excellent. The kit is great and even includes Comply tips. The silicone tip size increment seems smaller than average, meaning that the size difference between small and medium is less that what I have experienced with other brands. Example: normally, I use smallest silicone tips, in this case, medium provided perfect fit, and large is just a tad too big. Basically, better fitting options, at least for people with small to medium ear canals. Cables are soft and sturdy. During a phonecall, the mics pass through some ambient sound, I suppose, to prevent people from yelling. USB-C connector Now, the bad. For some obscure reason, despite positioning as audiophile, the sound adjustment dial is factory pre-set to maximum bass. Would not be the middle a better option (if not the minimum)? Whoever decided to assign the buttons to functions, clearly did not spend even an hour trying the product: there are four buttons: three have one function each (voice assistant, volume up, volume down). Then there is the middle button that does: power on/off, pairing, accept/end/decline call, play/pause, next/previous track. Not too much for one button? At minimum, the track control could have been put on the volume buttons. The buttons have almost no tactile feel, so after a month of daily use I am still fumbling around trying to find the right button. There is no option to pass through the sound and lower the volume while listening to music. Meaning that one HAS to remove one of the earphones whenever needing to hear something. Clumsy. The music needs to be stop Battery life is shorter than a working day, even without a commute (6 hours). 1.5 hour charge time is waay to long. Despite having the USB-C connector, the charging speed is that of USB 2.x A chromebook with probably 50-100 larger battery charges faster than that. 1.5 hour charge time is waay to long, especially considering the battery life. The app seems useless. It allows for software equalizer, auto-off/auto-call accept and seeing which codec is used. That is it. On top of that, it takes >30 seconds to communicate with the headset that is already connected to the bluetooth. Regarding the software EQ: why even have it when the driver response can be tuned physically? BTW, the software EQ does not even have presets. Given all that, the price tag is extremely high, IMO. ... show more

  • Cheaper headphones with far more bass I bought these for $100
Sound is great not much thought put into fiscal product. They placed the power and pause button between the volume veary close to eachother. With another inch could have had 24hr battery instead of 6hr. Shure charged fast but nearly everyone with a job works 8hr. I use headphones as hearingprotection. Another problem is the hook shape above the earbuds. It isn't malleable ,one size fits all Dumbo included, they snag on everything! ... and snap that 200 dollar earbud off ... show more

  • 2023 May 22 COMPLETELY WORTH IT.
Yeah I bought these skeptical of what I was going to be getting be ause of the reviews here.. unboxing set a high expectation. They are soft to the touch, flexible, and boy do they catch a large musical range from low lows to the highs.. these are great. I got these cause I lose ear buds and wanted a quality pair.. I have to say.. these rock. I'm not worried about ear buds hanging down or phone call vivration.. I have a phone and a watch that vibrate when phone calls come in. if your willing to exchange the hanging ear buds and no vivration alert for phone calls.. You've a got a solid Wirth the change neckband headphone set. ... show more
