The Seiko SSB385P1 uses Seiko's 8T67 movement which is a quartz movement with a mechanical chronograph complication. The advantage of mechanical chronographs is that their central seconds hand seems to smoothly sweep around the dial and upon reset will almost instantly snap back to the 12-o'clock position. The advantage of quartz watches is their far greater accuracy than mechanical watches. So this hybrid Seiko mecha-quartz is a "best of both worlds" movement. That said, most other mecha-quartz unfortunately tend to use the 8T63 whose major drawback is the 24-hour sub-dial that is only really useful if you need a day-night indicator or need to use military time but are not very good at doing the conversion mentally. The 8T67 in the SSB385P1 does away with the 24-hour sub-dial and instead has 12-hour chronograph sub-dial which is far more useful for those who need to time longer events. Aesthetically, the SSB385P1 is quite a handsome watch. In fact Seiko's product photos don't do any justice to the watch's looks. The products photos make the dial seem drab, dull, and boring which the SSB385P1 is anything but. The green dial appears to be a deep green that in direct light turns into a brighter metallic green with sunray highlights. And the sub-dials that appear plain in the product photos are actually detailed with many fine concentric rings. Aside from this the watch's face has lots of dimensional details. The hour indices are applied markers that have beveled (or maybe chamfered) edges, the minute/second markers are on the sloped face of an applied chapter ring, and the tachymeter scale is painted atop the chapter ring. Even the central hands have decorative flourishes where the hour and minute hands, dauphine shaped with pencil tips, have dark lines bisecting them along their lengths, and the stick shaped chronograph seconds hand has a simple yet decorative counterweight tail. The watch case is also well finished with mirror-polished bezel and sides contrasting with brushed tops on the lugs. The case is 41.5mm across however it does wear a little smaller because the lug-to-lug distance is just 46.5mm. Case thickness is also only 12.35mm which is quite slim considering the chronograph complication is fully mechanical. The SSB385P1 should easily slip under the cuff of a shirt's sleeve. Wearing comfort is rather good as the supplied leather strap is not too stiff and easily conforms to the wrist's shape. This watch would be good value at $200. This is a very handsome, well-made chronograph made by Seiko. It is a very accurate timepiece that performs as-well-as watches that are much more expensive. I am very pleased with this elegant watch!

Arrived with the strap disconnected but I have the tool to pop it back in to place. No issues after that. Watch looks great and the stock strap seems fine for now. Solid deal at $140 time will tell how it holds up.

This is one amazing looking piece! The dial has beautiful green tones when light shines it at different angles, however at first glance looks mostly black/deep green which makes it versatile enough to wear with any outfit. The leather band gives it a sporty look, and I occasionally swap it out with a silver stainless steel band for a more dressy look. Love Seikos. ... show more

Overall, this is a very nice watch; however, in my opinion, the picture is deceiving. The dial (face) is a very dark green color, evident by turning your wrist at certain angles.

I really like the looks and function of this Seiko chrono and can dress it up or down for almost any event. I opted for a REZERO gator grain coffee strap with butterfly clasp vs the shiny black thing it came with.

This watch is an absolute catch. I was very skeptical due to the price point, but it jad not disappointed. It is a good quality watch that looks great. I got it mainly for Work (something not flashy but that still looked good). I'm happy with my purchase. 10/10.
