  • The best desk I've had in some time!
Color: Black With Outlet
This desk is a BEAST! Be forewarned, it does require quite a lot of assembly. All tools and hardware were present, including an extra of each hardware and an actual small screwdriver. With the hubby's help and his electric screw driver we were able to get through it cleanly, but together it still took approximately an hour. After assembly, it is a gorgeous piece and surprisingly very sturdy. Plenty of room for my extra wide Sceptre monitor and smaller Acer monitor on the raised shelf (probably could fit another small monitor with some overhang if I wanted to squeeze them in). This was definitely an upgrade from my small glass gaming desk I've had for over a decade. The lights, I can't say are that great but are fairly cheap to replace so that wasn't an issue for me. Didn't really get it for the lights but they are actually pretty nice with an app to let you pick any color of the rainbow, plus several different themed color change settings that fade, blink or strobe with up to three shades. I just can't manage to keep the lights on. Plugs work amazing and keep cords off the floor. Baskets drawers are cloth and have no guides, so if you have young ones or pets, expect those to be easily knocked off the shelves. Otherwise, perfect and exactly what I expected, thanks to reading other reviews. ... show more

  • Solid desk, good overall size
This was an excellent upgrade to my previous desk. Everything was received well within the shipping timeline and all the parts were there. It comes in a single, flat box that was pretty heavy. I would recommend sliding it and having two people if you need to move it up or down a stairway. The box had some cosmetic damage, and one board inside had a small chip along an edge (shipping company's handling - not the manufacturer). The materials were packed with styrofoam sheets. I'm not a big fan of this stuff, and cardboard or some other foam material would have been better. There were no odd smells when unpacked. You will see some drill dust fall from holes on occasion, so a quick vacuum and/or wipe-down is advisable. The finish on the metal components was black, powder coated, and was in good condition. The shelving and desk surface are MDF (medium density fiberboard) with paper covering, and were relatively well made. Be aware of what you are getting here. MDF, if exposed and untreated, can absorb moisture and will expand and fall apart. Fix any chips or scratches immediately using a good two-part wood filler and flat primer - seriously, do not tempt the furniture gremlins. Don't let anything wet just sit on the surface of shelving (like a sweating glass or a plant pot). Use coasters or something similar. I'd also recommend a writing pad to protect the surface you use most frequently. Be careful not to gouge the surface or drop anything heavy on it that has edges. Large chips are very difficult to fix on this stuff. Keep the surface clean using an occasional wipe-down with a slightly damp rag and make sure the surface dries entirely before replacing items. You could substitute wood shelves with a visit to a lumber/home store and some work. Good luck finding something that isn't warped and chipped, but I digress (glares at THAT store). Assembly was simple, though I cheated and used an electric driver (highly recommended). However, be very, very careful. Take your time and pay attention to the admittedly spare instructions. Don't tighten anything until the major components are fully assembled. Then use the supplied allen wrench to hand-tighten. I also used the allen wrench to start screws. Look carefully to how the legs are set, so you don't have to swap one around like I did half way through the assembly (I needed more coffee). This can be assembled by one person - if I can do it, so can you. I would recommend assembly near where you plan to place the desk as it is a little awkward to move and might be a bit wide for some doorways (23-5/8 inches deep). The guide and most photos on here show the bottom shelf of the hutch assembly close to the desk surface. You can actually move that up about 14-1/2 inches to another set of pre-drilled holes if you prefer. You can assemble the hutch separately. It attaches via the legs of the hutch to the top surface of the main desk with screws and is secure enough. Assuming you're using this as a computer desk, it will accommodate some fairly good-sized monitors. I was able to fix my 27" and 32" (diagonal) LG monitors. The 32" was a tight fit and slightly challenging. I had to angle it way forward to get it below the supports, and then could adjust the tilt back to vertical. The space between the lower shelf and upper shelf is 20-1/2 inches, but it's only 19-5/8 inches to the bottom of the support. The shelf for my monitors was just a bit on the narrow side at 8-7/8 inches deep, so the monitor feet sit just a touch off the edge as I have them set at an obtuse angle instead of straight across the shelf. Not a huge deal and they're still well supported. I don't think this would fit two 32" well, or it would be a very tight fit with the feet off the edges quite a bit. It depends on how much adjustment you have with your monitor's mounting system. The bottom shelves aren't super wide, so fitting some desktop system towers could be a challenge. My giant Lian Li case sits on it's own table adjacent to the desk. There's two cable holes in the desk surface at the rear. I'd recommend using just the center of the plastic inserts to guard the edges of the holes from scuffing. One of the centers broke while I was fiddling with it (my fault), but it actually worked better without the center - so I "fixed" the other one too. The desk is stable, but please note that it does not come with any wall bracing. It will sit fairly flush with a wall once completed, though you might want a little space to accommodate cords or a baseboard. It might be a good idea to pick something up or order something off amazon if you have climbers or just want some security. Search the term "furniture wall anchor" and you'll have a lot of options. Also, I would recommend some Command (3M) cable clips to help get cords off the floor or just organize them a bit. Update: It's almost 2 years later! The desk is still intact and in good condition. It survived movers with no issues. No issues at all. I found it useful to buy a small piece of trim and tack it on the back of the upper shelves to keep things from accidentally being pushed back. I also got some small sticky felt circles (technically for furniture feet) that I stuck along the front of the shelves as a stop for pictures and such so they won't fall off the front. Not required by any means, but if I bump the desk, it keeps things from falling. Back to work! ... show more

  • If you work, study, and videogame... this desk = life
I have been searching for the perfect desk for quite awhile - probably over a year. I spent $50 more than I intended to because I literally could not find anything else that checked off all my boxes the way this one does. My place is small, so everything in my home has to be tall with storage to make a piece of furniture worth the space it occupies. This desk keeps my computer off the floor so it doesn't clog with dust and overheat, it has a monitor riser built-in (if you attach the shelf that way) so that it's better for neck posture. Under the monitor riser, there is space to push my keyboard back so I can read any non-digital textbooks and write notes with lots of elbow room. The riser easily fits 2 large gaming monitors and there is enough desk space to have a textbook and a notebook side by side without occupying too much width or depth. And the shelving.... THE SHELVING! I needed shelves so badly and the hutch that attaches to this literally eliminated my need for additional shelves. This thing makes my room look so much more clean, streamlined, and less cluttered. I work 45 hours a week at this desk, I study another 10-15 hours a week, and I game about 2-3 hours every day to every other day - and this desk is literally my new home inside my home. I love it - you won't regret purchasing this if you're trying to solve multiple space and posture/ergonomic problems without spending an arm and a leg! Another plus - magnets will stick to this. I assembled it without the crossbars because I could tell they would be trouble with my long legs and the footrest on my chair. Super sturdy without them. Cons: It's black - it gets dusty fast. I really wanted something with wheels because I'm one of those freaks that constantly rearranges their furniture (always trying to maximize space and minimize situations that invite clutter.) The frame of this is metal with no way to attach casters/wheels without some 200IQ ingenuity. It was a pain to put together, some things didn't line up properly. One corner arrived damaged (the corner of the box was also crushed, I had a long drawn out drama with FedEx because they initially dropped off some guys dog food from Chewy instead of this desk - but neither of those issues are the vendor's fault - and I was compensated accordingly for FedEx's @$$ hattery - (ended up buying the matching stand for my Razer kitty headset with the store credit I got from Amazon for keeping the damaged product, worth the small dent on the back corner!) A couple of the holes weren't exactly straight, but it's manageable if you wait to tighten every bolt until each one is threaded. Seriously, 9/10. The only way this could be better was if it was real wood..... then I could put my own wheels on! xD ... show more
