  • Buyer Beware
Capacity: 10TB Style: HDD Pro
Although these are nice drives, please beware that they are not covered by Seagate Warranty. I went to Seagate’s website and used their tool with the drives serial numbers to verify the warranty and was getting no information. So, I called the tech support number and provided them the serials. I was told the drives were not covered because it appeared, they pulled from another system. I told the tech that I didn't understand and he provided me with the following example; suppose you purchase a new computer and it had a small hard drive in it. You pull the smaller drive out and replace it with a larger drive. You then sell that smaller drive online. Later something went wrong with the drive and you called the manufacturer for warranty. The drive by itself is not covered but the original entire computer is covered. I hope this helps explain why the drives are not covered by the OEM. ... show more

  • False advertisement
Capacity: 10TB Style: HDD Pro
I recently purchased 4 of these hard drives for my NAS. After a day of being up and running, the Volume 1 was inaccessible. I contacted Seagate to see if data recovery was available for my hard drives. Needless to say, I found out that these hard drives are NOT new....Seagate told me that my hard drives were pulled out of another Seagate enclosure and sold separately and any factory warranty is null and voided. Seller is selling hard drives as if they are brand new and at full price. Seller did agree to replace or give me full refund, but their warranty does not cover data recovery. ... show more

  • First was DOA. Second was perfect!
Capacity: 10TB Style: HDD Pro
Sometimes new drives don’t work fresh out of the box….I t’s called infant mortality. What’s impressive is how easy Amazon has made it to correct the problem. It took me 20 minutes to get a return authorization and then drop the dead disk off at a nearby UPS Store. The UPS store scanned my return code, took the broken device, and then they boxed it up for shipping themselves . I received the replacement disk two days later, installed and formatted it, and had it working within 15 minutes. Even though this is described as an NAS disk drive , it installed just like any other SATA disk drive into my Linux workstation. I spent extra on this NAS drive because I want extra reliable storage for 3-D processing. ... show more

  • Failed in less than a month!
Capacity: 10TB Style: HDD Pro
At first I was impressed. This disk is significantly faster than the WD Red disks I have been using. It is also a bit louder, which is normal because of the 7200 rpm. Nothing out of the ordinary. And if you have a decent computer case, you probably won't hear it. But then it FAILED in less than 1 month!! Just like that. It doesn't even show up in the Bios anymore. It looks like the SATA port is bust (I tried different connectors). But it is probably because it cannot start up. Hey, the advantage is that I will now be able to tell you about their customer support! To be continued... ... show more

  • Enterprise level performance and fast for a HDD
Interestingly of the 2 I bought originally, one did not work out of the box. But Amazon Prime had a replacement in my hand the next day. Can't beat that. No doubt the box got banged around on the way here. Once I set up in my NAS (bought a QNAP) I was in no hurry and set one up as a RAID 1. Then let the system run for a week. Everything is perfect. I set my two data drives in the computer for automatic back up and can say is superfast. I actually like hearing the little noise all enterprise level drives make when I save a file on my computer and then hear the backup saving - is not loud. I know everything is working fine. ... show more
