Affordable and comes with line. I connected a 1.5 pound anchor for my fishing kayak. Set up works very well and deploys perfectly. Note that while deploying the anchor, the spool needs to be feathered to avoid backlash which is 100% fine. I pull the line into the kayak and then reel for perfect management. I was tired of messing with my old manual wrap "reel" and I liked the price of this one. I've used it half a dozen times and have not had any major issues. The ease of use more then makes up for the couple times the cord wrapped in one place for too long. It took me less the 30 seconds to unwind and re-do it. The ease of pressing a thumb release to let out more line is so ridiculous. So easy and mine feels very solidly built (for plastic) ((but for the price, what do you want?)). It make tending my dive flag so much less complicated, I can now concentrate on my camera and getting some pictures. I have added a lanyard which definitely helps. Simply let go of the reel, use my hand for what ever I need and grab the reel back. I swim in cold water so I do have 7mm gloves which makes it a little more difficult but nothing major. I simply use 3 fingers and wrap my pinkie around the lanyard. For a basic scuba diver looking for a better way to maintain their dive flag I would definitely suggest this reel. ... show more

It's loaded with what looks like kite string, you'll have to replace with tougher stuff. It DOES NOT have a back and forth winding mechanism, meaning it will spool unevenly and cause issues. Plastic is thin in my opinion

Ok reel for the money. I’m using it as a kayak anchor line. It does not guide the line left and right for even reloading like a fishing reel does, and that can be problematic. I haven’t really really put it through it’s paces long term, but I did buy two and one of the reels arrived very stiff and not wanting to pay line in/out. I might have to take it apart to see what’s wrong?. Depending on what you use it for, you may want to spend more on a more high quality unit. ... show more
