  • I wanna love it but....
I really want to give it all the stars because, overall, I really like Scosche products. BUT... this has some minor issues that add up to not really being a great product. It's good, but it's not great. And certainly not what I would expect from a car mount that costs $70. Here's why. 1. Magnets are weak. Does not compare to the holding power of say, Mob Armor. But I went with this one because Mob Armor uses magnets which interfere with Qi charging, which I really wanted. To complicate matters, my old truck requires me to use an aux cable for audio. iPhone 11 only has lightning port now, so if I want audio I have to use an RCA to lightning cable. But if I want to charge the phone with the cable, no music. Dilemma. So Qi charger was clearly the best option. Hence this choice. Magnets + Qi charging. Great. But this lacks the holding power of other magnetic mounts. A good speed bump, and I suspect my phone is going to be on the floor. We shall see. 2. The real bummer. I had hoped that somehow Scosche had solved the problem of not being able to use the average Qi charger with the magnetic plate that goes on the back of the phone. Nope. So now if I want to use Any. Other. Qi. Charger. I own, like the one on my desk, or at my bedside, or in my kitchen, or next to my spot on the sofa, I have to take the darned case off and leave my phone vulnerable, or I have to use a case. Enter the age of case swapping. Not a fan of fiddling with stuff constantly. I should have guessed that was going to be an issue, since it was with Mob Armor magnets, but I took a shot, hoping Scosche knew something I didn't. But, alas. Side note: I am using the bigger of the supplied plates. I am going to try the two smaller plates they provide and see if that clears the charging coil in the phone enough to allow other chargers to work. Fingers cross. 3. Lastly, $70? Come on. I like Scosche quality, but for $70 worth of plastic with a sticky pad mount (and not like hilariously strong magnetic mount like Mob Armor), this is way overpriced. $50 maybe. Bot not $70. All in all, it's the best option I have found so far with regard to Qi charging in the car. I DO Like the versatility in positioning, and the small mounting base size is critical to me. I drive a Tundra and there is not a wealth of open, flat enough, dash space for mounting. A couple of key places work, and they are SMALL. So that was also a decision in this purchase. It fit in one of the two places it could go. Be aware of the case swapping/magnet issue if you plan to use other Qi chargers. You may not love that. ... show more

  • One of the best pieces of gear I've bought in a long time
I've been waiting to buy a quality Qi charger for my iPhone Xs in my vehicle for a while. I don't like holders with arms, automatic or otherwise, so when I found the Scosche, it looked like something I had to try. Overall, this is a winner and I'm very happy with the purchase. It's probably a 4.7-4.8 star device, but since that's not an option, it gets 5 stars. First, the bads: Only one really; the tape used on the magnetic plates which go on your phone or phone case did not want to stick to the case that I have (Speck case). The rubberized outer portion of my case is slick and didn't lend itself to the tape sticking to it. They popped right off with a fingernail. Next I tried using Gorilla 5 minute epoxy directly between the tape and the case. I let it cure 24 hours before trying it on mount. The bottom magnet lasted 2 times going on/off. The top magnet lasted 2 days, then came off as well (they remain stuck to the mount when the come off). So finally I removed the rubber portion of my case and the tape off the back of the magnet, then scuffed the back of the magnets (removed the anodizing) and then epoxied the magnets into the case. Let it cure 24 hours and it's worked since. All of this may not be an issue with a different case, or if putting the magnets directly onto the back of the phone. My epoxy job could have been a little bit cleaner too, which would have made a better finished look. The goods: Very clean install with a minimally intrusive look. I wanted it close to my normal line of sight to the radio, and not so far out of reach that it was a pain to get to if trying to reach it to type an address or something. The 360 degree rotation of both the mounting portion and the magnetic portion allows you to mount it just about anywhere and get it adjusted to a desired position. The arm is just the right length to get it away from the dash, but not so long that the moment allows for a lot of bouncing/movement while driving. I've found it to be very stable during a normal commute, and I can easily read normal fonts on the phone. The magnets, as mounted in my case, have no problem keeping my iPhone Xs secured to the base and keeping the phone charging. It almost jumps out of your hand as you reach it towards the base, and "locks" into place. The 3M tape used on the mount to stick it to the dash is very high quality and very adhesive. I think they didn't use this tape for the magnets themselves because of the thickness of it, but it would probably be a better choice for those magnets. As shown in the pictures, the "foot" of the base is actually pliable to mount to a contoured shape, and it worked well. The tape isn't even entirely touching my dash and the mount hasn't moved at all. The charging cable provided is plenty long enough to reach a 12v cigarette lighter port to ensure you get the maximum fast-charge capability out of the device. Overall, it's a great device and I'm glad I bought it. Improve the tape on the magnets, and it'd truly be 5 stars. ... show more

  • Charges well, even when falls out of vent.
Style: Free Flow Vent
This vent clip doesnt grab the back of the vent, it just slips right out. I have the normal flat vents. Had to *glue* it and as soon as i upgraded to the heavier "Fold" phone, it flew right out again. Magnets and charging are fine, great actually. Needs better/alternate attatchments to the car.

  • Not iPhone compatible! (Without using their alt method to “make” it work.)
Style: Free Flow Vent
Having just acquired my first wireless charging iPhone, I didn’t read enough of the details when purchasing this. I read “compatible with iPhone”, but realized afterwards that it wasn’t “made for iPhone”. I was stumped! The magnets (on the device & the iPhone 13 ProMax) actually seemed to repel from one another! I asked a question about my magnet issue/observation on the product page. The worst part of the responses was that only 1 person was able to tell me that this product wasn’t made for iPhones. The other 6+ we’re trying to tell me that I was either using it wrong or that there was something wrong with my phone!?!? Someone actually responded with… “Apple probably installed the magnets backwards on your iPhone.” LOL!!! Seriously?! This person’s obviously recently graduated from flip-phone to their first smart phone… and truly has zero understanding of the quality and craftsmanship that goes into Apple’s products 😝 ... show more
