  • perfect way to tell its story
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
100% review after platinum. If you go into this with the right expectations youll have a great time. It feels like its similar to gamecubes metroid prime with the elemental-ish weapons to unlock paths as you backtrack and advance. The story was great and had me wondering what was gonna happen and to continue through it. On sale its perfect price for the content and gameplay. Dont bother comparing this to returnal, as its not. gameplay videos online somehow make the look worse than it is so they felt almost misleading to what you get. Voice acting is done well, the face is a bit janky on your character outside of cut scenes. Cut scenes are high quality in comparison similar to how kena bridge of spirits cuts scenes was in comparison to its in game. Overall its a great indie suspense shooter with a charming story and i really hope they make a sequel. It reminds me of how a plague tale innocence was a "indie project" then got a fully loaded sequel. I hope that happens here too. Couple other things to note: -everything can be done in one play through -difficulty doesnt change trophies so easiest makes it accessible to anyone -i got roughly 8hrs out of it as puzzles were quite interesting and areas had me exploring what was off the beaten path ... show more

  • Bad reviews are misleading.
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
This game has a bad rep. Some game critics compare this to games like Returnal, which is better than this. This game seems like a basics mechanics game, but is by no means bad. It is enjoyable and not nearly has bad as many make it seem. To the studio that made this, your game is solid. The audience seem to like it more than the big critics, and we’re usually the ones who pay the money, when they normally get it free and review before the improvement updates hit. It's a wonderful game. I'm a story guy and the story extremely good. Don't know why people give it a low rating. It's a great buy.

  • Souls Above
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
I was looking forward to this - a science fiction shooter with an interesting narrative, created by a smaller development team. And I knew from watching some game play that there would be a Souls-like element and that the hero was not an action hero, and as a result, the game is not a 'guns-blazing bullet hell' experience. That being said, I was disappointed with this right from the start. I'm not a huge "graphics guy" but the visual presentation was a little underwhelming. Bland colors and lacking depth. So was the audio; I had the audio set to 100% and was wearing my PS5 headphones and the audio from the characters all sounded weak and hollow. Very surprising and made the experience less immersive. None of that is a real deal breaker: it's the game play that counts. Well, a little too Souls-borne for my taste. I'm not saying this is bad game, I have not played enough of it. Just not in the mood for a "depth by restart after restart " gaming experience. The game play along with an unexpected mediocre visual/audio presentation results in this game being unsatisfying. Too bad: I thought this one would be awesome. ... show more

  • Mediocre is the best way to describe it.
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
As my title says, this game is just mediocre. This is coming from someone who in less than 2 days while juggling work, life, and meeting up with friends/family, was able to beat the game with all (100%) trophies. I went in thinking this was going to be world exploration type game similar to Mass Effect. This is nothing like Mass Effect. The entire plot is very linear. There is no deviation from the main story in any meaningful way. I am not saying this is a bad thing as many older games are like this. However, Scars Above could have easily allowed for world exploration as this takes place on an unexplored planet (from the MC's perspective). ***SPOILER ALERT*** The game is such that if there are ever 2+ branching paths/corridors/tunnels/etc. which you can take, and you go more than a minute down one of the paths, you know you are heading toward the next plot point. The other paths will all lead to a dead end with knowledge (experience) cubes. The only reason to back track at any point is to collect more knowledge cubes. Even then, you will easily have more than enough experience to fully acquire all available skills before endgame. ... show more

  • Boring and Slow
Platform For Display: PlayStation 5
Yes, this is a budget title, but when it crashes twice in the first hour and then the gameplay is slow and boring, then I can't give it more than 3. The world itself is interesting and the lead does look pretty, which helps. But you can wait for this to drop in price before trying out.
