  • A tool free improvement compared to the stock unit provided.
I didn't so much like the stock unit that came with my saw. I noticed that it was hard to get level. Furthermore, tapping on it resulted in an irritating click as if it wasn't sitting firm on the bottom. Contrast that with this new and improved unit that sits flat and was easy to adjust so that it didn't move or get snagged on things. I noticed that having a tool free option to open it promotes keeping the saw parts clean beneath the table top, too. You have to burn in a cut when you first get it. First you take riving knife off. Next you clamp a board across the plate to keep it down, then from its lowest position you turn the saw on and slowly raise the saw blade up into the plate and cut a zero tolerance hole for the blade. It's kinda a cool to see the plate turn brown just before the blade comes through. Then you repeat those steps after shifting the blade 45 degrees. I hesitated getting this thinking I didn't really need it, and there's a bunch of DIY instructions out there on how to make your own. But having it now, I'm glad I just bought it and now I can move on to getting other more important things done. ... show more

  • Essential item for SawStop.
These are expensive and I probably could make my own. However, with the zero clearance, I can put in, raise the blade at the angle desired and get on with my project. I usually buy a new one for the future after using one for a unique angle.

  • Replacement for broken insert.
The piece was received in appropriate time and in good condition as a replacement for insert that was broken. My only complaint about this type insert, which is a must for SawStop function, is that it is somewhat delicate and maybe prone to breakage. If someone handling it drops it or squeezes it tightly enough at the open end, the closed end will crack and break through. That's apparently what's happening at our shop. I've super glued our current one back together 3 or 4 times and find it broken again several weeks later but haven't found the culprit or circumstance that keeps breaking it. hopefully the new one doesn't end with the same fate. Wonder if SawStop has design improvement ideas. ... show more

  • Pretty good.
Definitely better than the stock insert, but I feel like it could be better. The lock-down lever "teeth" needed to be bent open by a couple millimeters -- I don't know if that's because my SawStop is the first gen saw or what, but I expect precision from SawStop whether it's the saw itself or its accessories, so that's a little disappointing. Once I managed to coax it into locking down, the process of opening up the kerf went *mostly* smoothly. The instructions have you turning the saw off and on as you adjust the angle of the arbor, but at one point the teeth were bound after swinging the arbor over the prescribed amount and it caused the circuit breaker to pop. When I do this again, I'm going to leave the saw on the whole time and go through the up-down-tilt....up-down-tilt...up-down-tilt...(etc) process so that that doesn't happen. ... show more

  • Nice Upgrade To A First Gen. Saw
As expected the throat plate fits and functions perfectly. I have a first gen. industrial SS (3 hp, 52" rails) and I've become accustomed to using an Allen wrench to swap out throat plates. This tool free design locks the plate in position, after adjusting the side screws, making it a snug fit for a positive lock down to occur. I'm saving this plate for straight cuts to maintain the zero clearance feature. I'll use the old plates for bevels and another for dados. It is kind of pricey to get more than one but a definite improvement. Although I've made throat plates out of birch plywood this is worth the money. ... show more

  • Worth the price.
Every bit worth the price. The SawStop design makes it very, very difficult to make shop made inserts for every blade in your shop. I tried after market inserts but they did not align well and the adjusting screws did not allow the plate to sit flat in the insert. I purchased an extra one to use for bevel cuts so I can have one for 90 degree zero clearance cuts and another for bevel cuts. Once you make the first bevel cut you lose the zero clearance for 90 degree cuts. SawStops lock down lever is like no other on the market, it really secures the plate in the insert. I marked the bevel cut plate with a sharpie so I won't get the 2 plates confused. ... show more

  • Great product
The SawStop standard Lock Down insert is excellent. A little pricey but is fits perfectly, is totally adjustable to level with your table saw top and of excellent quality. Typical SawStop product.

  • Great design
These fit well and are super quick and easy to use. I have several for thin kerf, standard kerf, and even a couple for the same blades at different angled cuts. There's never an excuse not to change them out as it takes seconds to do so.
