  • HATE WITH A BURNING PASSION!!!!
Color: White Size: 20 Pound (Pack of 1)
I hate Hate HATE, let me be clear, HATEEE this fondant with a burning passion. I've been making fondant covered cakes for two years now and am pretty well rehearsed with the basic covering a cake and smoothing. I've used many other types of fondant, including buttercream fondantd, wilton, lmf and mmf, and none of them are as nightmarish as this brand. First of all, the fondant is super hard and compact in this bucket and takes 30 minutes just to claw your way into it to dig out enough to knead and roll. Secondly, I've always mixed my own colors using gel colors and have never had issues, but I spent an hour trying to make this fondant yellow, orange, and blue for a Nerf cake I was making. I had some red fondant so I thought I could mix some yellow then put the two together to make orange. Instead, it made a weird coral color. I also waisted a ton of time trying to make a royal blue to cover a second cake and ended up justjust chunking it in the trash. Thirdly, I took the corally color and continued adding yellow until I got a useable (but not preferable) shade of orange and resumed with rolling it out to cover an 8 inch cake. (I was determined to make this work because I spent $80 on freaking fondant.) This normally takes me about 10 minutes to do with other fondants, but every single time I rolled the fondant over to drape, it would stretch and tear and get elephant skin. I used the black satin ice to cover a cake board and even THAT got elephant skin! I've never had a fondant dry out so quickly! I was basically only able to roll it to 6 inches before it would start cracking, so forget covering a cake board, let alone an actual cake.. but I digress..So I roll it out as best I can and cover the cake with the hopes of spackling over the cracks and tears, (which is basically the entire cake). But this fondant would NOT smooth! It immediately started buckling and getting folds, it didn't matter how much I separated them and smoothed downward, it just had these huge ugly folds and cracks and rips and dry spots. Pissed because I had just spent literally four hours trying to do something that should only take 20 minutes, I drove to the store and bought some precolored wilton and covered BOTH cakes, including smoothing and sharpening edges, in 15 minutes easy breezy. I spent another entire day trying to cover a cake dummy with plain white satin ice today for a wedding, with about the same amount of luck, and will be going to the store tomorrow to buy some trusty wilton, because this brand is costing me my sanity and I have an 11 month old who requires his mother's attention! To summarize: hard to get out, hard to work with, dries out quickly, colors poorly, rips and stretches and cracks when lifting to cover cake, doesn't smooth out causing folds, and causes terrible elephant skin. ... show more

  • Please buy another brand
Color: White Size: 10 Pound (Pack of 1)
LISTEN TO OTHER REVIEWS AND DO NOT BUY THIS. I'm pretty experienced with fondant and had to make a wedding cake. Im not a huge fan of a competitive brand because it dries quickly so I decided to try Satin Ice since it has a decent reputation. I decided to ignore other reviewers and assume they don't know how to work with fondant. My fault for not testing this fondant before finishing the wedding cake! Last minute at midnight with no stores open due to covid, I'm thankful my fiance found marshmallows at a local gas station to make my own fondant because this garbage is unusable. It becomes stickier and less elastic as you knead it, rendering it completely useless. The taste is average. Impossible to cover a cake with because it tears and has zero elasticity. I emailed Satin Ice with a kind message asking if they have any tips or tricks to help me use this fondant before I give up for good. I was still willing to give them a chance. No response! Too late to return through Amazon so it must go in the trash. Please consider another brand if you're reading this. Please listen to the negative reviews. ... show more

  • AWFUL!!!
Color: Red Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
Absolutely awful!!! Not sure what the fuzz is for this product. I will never buy again and would not recommend it to anyone interested in covering a cake with fondant. It almost left my son without a Birthday cake. Disastrous!!! I ended up making my own last minute, not ideal. One star because I am unable to give it ZERO! I usually make my own fondant and it works great. Covering a cake with fondant is not difficult, but with Satun Ice, the task was nearly impossible. It dries up quickly, elephant skin forms, does not stretch well. It just did not cooperate in any way. For efficiency, I bought this since I was covering a two tier cake with red fondant. Worst mistake ever. Something I enjoyed now became a nightmare. ... show more

  • It tastes great!!
Color: Blue Size: 5 Pound (Pack of 1)
I am not a huge fan on fondant but my nephew was getting married and picked out one tier of the cake that had to be fondant, not buttercream. I purchase this Satin Fine brand on referral from a friend who uses it. I have not used fondant in years and I have to say, it has come a long way! This was very vibrant in color and rolled out with ease. I "painted" on it and it held the color well. The wedding was outside and my greatest fear was melting or drying out and cracking. This cake was the base of three tiers, each with a different theme. It sat in the sun (80 degrees, low humidity) for about two hours and suffered no ill effects. It did not melt or crack. I did notice a little drying around the edge but that was all. I'm sure if the cake were inside, it would have stood proud for hours. Most surprising was the taste. When I trained in cake decorating, we used Wilton fondant which was some of the most vile stuff I have ever tasted. This however, was fabulous. It has a vanilla flavor and paired perfectly with the icing. Nobody peeled it off as I have seen at other events with cakes I didn't do. lol This 5# pail did this 12" double layer cake with plenty to spare. There was probably enough left to do another 12" cake. If you are looking for a fondant that is easy to work with and tastes great, you have found it. ... show more
