  • Great Lens But...
20 March 2023 - I returned the product and was refunded by Amazon within one day of them receiving the product. The best part of my shopping experience was the service received from Amazon. I remain hopeful that Samyang will improve the quality of their lenses thereby not wasting the consumers time. My recommendation to Amazon is to remove all Samyang products until they improve the quality of their products. GOOD LUCK SAMYANG. 06 March 2023 - I've decided to return the item for a refund. I hope Samyang will improve on their quality checking during production and prior to dispatch. 04 March 2023, 6 Days after delivery: This morning at a video shoot this lens let me down on both AF and MF, it just would not focus when using my BlackMagic 6k G2 Camera. I changed the lens to a Canon EF 50mm AF ISTM and it worked perfectly, then I used a Canon EF 100mm MF lens following that I tested the camera with a Canon EFS 17mm-85mm AF USM lens and it also worked perfectly fine. I have a Samyang 50mm RF MF lens which works 100% Awesome on my Canon R6, so in general I am very satisfied with Samyang lenses I was super excited when they released an AF lens and had to be one of the first to try it out. Quick Disclaimer: Although Canon makes good lenses they are way overpriced when compared to the Samyang range of lenses. I remain a Samyang fan and trust they will resolve this problem in best interest of all their supporters. The Samyang lens is a super solid lens I cannot fault the construction of it. What Next: This coming week I will test the Samyang EF 85mm AF lens on my Canon R6 using a convertor and report by on my finding by editing this post. Maybe the lens needs a Firmware Update but I find it hard to justify the additional cost which brings me back to the Samyang MF lens which I am very fond of which suits my specific requirement for the BlackMagic 6k G2 Camera. I have other Camcorders with great lenses which have many functions Among other supper AF too. So my requirement for the Samyang lens is specific to my BlackMagic 6k G2 for which I do not really need AF right need but it will be a bonus if it works. Regardless of my challenges with this lens I have upped my rating to five stars as a believe in the Samyang lens and their ability to resolve this. I will continue reviewing giving updating this post with my journey. 03 March 2023, 5 Days after delivery: I recently received my lens which i purchased for a BlackMagic 6k G2 Camera and thus far I like it but... my advice to you. 1. If you don't need AF then rather save your money and purchase a MF lens. 2. The lens has an EXTREMELY shallow depth of field which makes the AF really insignificant as it continues to refocus the whole time and at times I've discovered that the refocus stops for now reason at all and you need to remount the lens, so thus far I've used this AF lens on MF. 3. I have the exact same lens but RF Mount and MF for my Canon R6 and the quality is the same. 4. When holding the lens up to a bright light I can clearly see the glass is not 100 pure as it has a what seems like freckles, not sure what the exact wording would be. 5. Maybe a firmware update with fix some of these problems but that is at an additional cost. In summary I may return the lens within my 30 day window and rather purchase two MF lenses for approximately the same price as one AF lens. I hope my comments is of value to you ... show more

  • Terrible focusing skills.
If you can get the focus to work, it’s beautiful. Not as sharp as it could be, but you can get really great photos. Listen to the other reviews though, the focus (both auto and manual) will just randomly not work and sort of jump around. It’s odd and really inconvenient if you doing weddings or events. Every second matters so I’d just stick with the name brand version. Edit in 2023. I’ve upgraded my camera to a newer mirrorless and it seems to work better. It’s still not perfect and as fast, but definitely better. ... show more

  • Decent lens for the cost with a slight autofocus problem.
The auto focus occasionally freaks out and requires removal of the lens to correct. When attempting to autofocus on a moving target it will seek back and forth and if done enough "forgets" where infinity is. The only way I have been able to fix it is to remove the lense and then remount it. Very inconvenient. Outside of the autofocus problem the lens is pretty nice. Feels study. Focus ring has a longer throw than I expected requiring more than a single turn to go from min to max. Fully open there is a bit of chromatic aberration especially with overexposed areas but this can be worked around. If the autofocus is fixed with a firmware patch I can update the rating to 5 ... show more

  • Auto Focus Does Not Work
I thought I could save some money by purchasing the Samyang 85mm 1.4 AF but instead I waisted my time. You will find many reviews that complain about the AF system, and I thought Samyang would have fixed this issue by now. They haven’t. This is a worthless lens. Just save up for the Canon 85mm 1.2. I emailed Samyang USA and was told to return the lens to Amazon. I’m shocked at their quality and customer service. I really wanted an 85mm 1.4 too. ... show more
