Description

The new AF 135mm F1.8 E telephoto lens is optimised for portraits, astrophotography, landscapes and video shooting. It includes Samyang's key features, such as: focus lock button, custom switch, and focus range limiter switch. With Samyang's announcement of the new AF 135mm F1.8 E, its Auto Focus F1.8 E series now includes: 24mm, 35mm, 45mm, 75mm and 135mm focal lengths, completing the lineup from wide-angle to telephoto. AF 135mm F1.8 FE Key Features Superb Resolution Unsparing application of Samyang's most advanced optical technologies has produced a large-aperture prime telephoto lens that delivers outstanding corner-to-corner resolution. The AF 135mm F1.8 FE delivers an 18.9˚ angle of view for full-frame and 12.5˚ for APS-C. It features a bright maximum aperture of F1.8 throughout the entire image, as favoured by full-frame camera users. In particular, optimum resolution is achieved through the optical design of 13 elements in 11 groups (1 U-ASP, 2 HR and 3 ED). Combined with Sony's full-frame image sensor, this lens delivers superior sharpness and contrast in all areas of the image. Able to deliver extremely narrow depth of field, with beautiful bokeh The AF 135mm F1.8 FE uses a large-diameter aperture to provide smooth background blur. It effectively allows separation of the subject from the background, by using a shallow depth of field. Also, it is equipped with a UA (Ultra-precision Aspherical) lens, which delivers natural and refined bokeh. Using this smooth bokeh, you can freely create images highlighting your subjects against stunning backgrounds, whether shooting portraits, close-ups or even cityscapes. Fast and Quiet Auto Focus Performance Tracking the subject accurately and quickly, the AF also operates quietly and smoothly when shooting video. Samyang's Linear STM (Stepping Motor) satisfies both photographers and videographers with quieter and more accurate control of the focusing lens groups. Enhanced Operability and Reliability Important features include customisable: A Focus Hold button, Custom Switch and Focus Range Limiter. Overall, this is a lens that meets or exceeds professional requirement for control and reliability for both stills and movies. 1) Focus Hold Button Pressing this button on the lens will keep the lens locked to that focusing distance. You can assign functions such as Eye AF in settings on the camera body. 2) Custom Switch There is a custom switch, which can be set to allow adjustment of the aperture silently by rotating the focus ring. Using the optional Lens Station, you can set up the mode to suit your own preference. (More functions will be added through firmware updates in the future.) 3) Focus Range Limiter switch The Focus Range Limiter only operates in AF mode. It is useful when the distance from an object has been determined. Move the Focus Range Limiter forward or backward to select the focus range. - FULL: The AF range is set to infinity at a minimum focus distance of 0.69m. (AF search may take slightly longer.) - 0.69m - 2m: The AF range is set between 0.69m and 2m, which is suitable for close-up shooting. - 1.5m - ∞: The AF range is set from 1.5m to infinity, which is suitable for normal shooting. Short minimum focal distance of 0.69m Although this is a 135mm telephoto lens that effectively controls aberration at all focusing distances, Samyang has made it possible to achieve a minimum focus distance of just 69cm (2.26ft) and a maximum magnification of 0.243x for close-up photography. Small accessories and other subjects can be captured with remarkable resolution and beautiful, soft background bokeh. Modern design and weather-sealing The AF 135mm F1.8 FE has been developed and enhanced, taking into consideration not only the design features but also the user's shooting environment. It has a micro-patterned rubber focus ring, which feels great to operate and the weather-sealing protects the lens from light rain, snow and dust.

  • Identical, if not better, to the original Sony G Master lens
Wow. All I can say is I'm super impressed with this lens. It has surpassed my expectations. The picture quality and performance mirrors that of its Sony G Master counter part at a fraction of the price. $699 compared to $2k +. This lens is phenomenal. I will say, it is on the slower side of Auto Focus but if you're doing anything but sports or fast moving objects, you'll be fine....otherwise, spend the extra money and invest on the OG G Master. ... show more

  • Outstanding Value, fast shipping.
Lens shipped right away and arrived double boxed, brand new with Firmware Ver 5 already on it, so this must be from a fairly new batch. Testing revealed this copy is perfectly well centered, so I hope that translates to good news for everyone else that Samyang's QC is improving. Autofocus is solid and predictable, and this lens is silly sharp. The bokeh is like butter, smooth transitions. The shot of my ever-present model, my poor dog (yes, she needs a haircut, heh), was literally the very first shot with this lens wide open @ f1.8. I'm a happy camper, especially at the great sale price of $499 ! ... show more

  • Super sharp
Super sharp fast lens. I’ve used the GM and yes it’s a better lens but only slightly. If you’re going to use this focal length a lot or you have money to burn you may want to look at the GM. Otherwise this is the lens to buy. I bought this lens, 135mm f1.8 II and the Samyang 85mm f1.8 II for less than one of the Sony GM’s. Both are super sharp, have great bokeh and are slightly smaller and a whole lot lighter. For the money you can’t go wrong with this lens, period ... show more

  • Compared to the Sony GM
I compared this lens side-by-side to a friend's Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM. The Sony has better build quality, feels more robust in the hand, has slightly faster autofocus, and has an aperture ring. The Sony is obviously much heavier, which can diminish portability. The Samyang, while slower, nailed focus consistently. I didn't think the output was significantly different. My copy did not require any calibration via the lens station. The Sony is a better lens for sure, but it's not better enough to justify a price tag that's 3 times as high as the Samyang. I'm keeping this baby! ... show more

  • My new favorite lens!
I’ve been enjoying photography as a hobby for about 7 years now and love to mostly take pictures of my family and nature. I’ve never really considered a 135mm prime lens before since I already have a 70-200 zoom lens I use a lot already. However, the faster aperture coupled with the lighter weight makes it much more likely for me to bring when we go out to the park, a sporting event or for general outdoor shooting. I’m in love with the image quality results I get and appreciate the features it has to limit focus ranges or set it up for astrophotography (which I haven’t tried yet but would like to do in the future). The professional may see added benefits by bumping up to Sony’s G Master alternative for faster auto focus, but for a hobbyist like me, this lens can provide me with all the bells and whistles I want with image quality that seems to rival what other lenses double its price point can do. ... show more

  • Stellar!
Having some of the very best lenses for the Sony E mount, I can safely say this is my favorite. Such a special quality to the pictures. Sharper than every lens I have and the rendition is special. Colors and contrast are chart topping. Handles direct sunlight in a way that is both clinically great as well as artsy (with a tiny bit of tasteful flare). Auto focus is good. Handles action pretty well albeit not perfect. For portraits though perfect. Simply put the best lens you can buy for the cash and one of the very best lenses made period. ... show more

  • Samyang 135mm f/1.8
I was blown away by the quality of this lens. I rented the Sony 135mm f/1.8 GM and loved it but couldn’t get past the almost $2k price tag. So, I decided to give this lens a go while it was on sale for Amazon prime days for $550 and so glad I did. Sharp!!! Btw if you hold the button down on the side when you power up the camera a green light will appear and it allows you to focus to infinity for Astrophotography ... show more

  • Unable to find focus on A7cII
Unfortunately going to return because the autofocus never lands when paired with my A7cII. Manual focus works fine and produces some really nice images.
