First of all, the Samsung "Frame" is very expensive compared to other similar TV's without the "Frame" feature. This one was $499. A comparable TV without the frame can be had for about $99. But I paid the exorbitant price because I wanted to display my own photographs when the TV is off. The TV has an option to load your photographs via a USB drive. I first tried a large (1T) SSK external drive, but the TV would not read it. I then copied a few photographs onto a 32GB thumb drive and that worked. The TV successfully uploaded by photos and displayed them - which a large ugly white border. There is apparently no way to "stretch" the image to fit the screen, like pretty much every other monitor out there. The manual said I could at least change the color of the matte around the picture, but that option did not seem to be available. The TV kept demanding I "create an account" and "sign in", which I did not want to do, but I gave in hoping more options would become available. They did, but now the TV is so slow it's unusable. Buttons on the remote are now so slow the TV is basically unresponsive. I'm assuming this is because the TV is so busy spying on me it doesn't have time to respond to the remote. After fiddling with it for a _long_ time, the option to "stretch" the photos to fit the screen appeared, but you have to set that option for _every_ photo individually, and you can only do it in the settings mode, not while actually displaying the image... and the TV is so slow it takes several minutes for each picture. Summary: I'd buy it again but I know there's huge drawbacks. It's expensive but convincingly looks like a picture. The picture mode works 90% of the time even if the light sensing and motion detection aren't the best in the world (and might be worth turning off) it's convincing enough to be a statement piece in a home. As a TV it does a great job in a well lit room because it has a matte screen so you can view at any angle without fear of glare. There is backlight bleed when you're looking at a dark scene and your room is dark, and the UI is passable, but too slow for me to use, so I just use a home theater PC to push the image because I don't want to navigate the slow apps on the TV. Pros: With a matte screen and a price tag right around $2k for a 75" this checks a lot of boxes. As a TV the picture is bright and clear and when in "Art Mode" it's convincing enough to be confused for a print we hung up on the wall. You can upload your own art through the app or you can subscribe to their art service, which I'd never do. But the art and framing and everything in the app are pretty great, overall I'm satisfied with the way they handle art mode, even if there are some minor issues with it. There are competitors entering the market, which is why I bought the older model of The Frame to save costs and feel less bad when someone inevitably does this better than Samsung. But considering I'm not using the smart features and just having this as a display for a computer, or as art, I'm quite satisfied with the product. Or rather, I knew what I was getting into and wasn't surprised. Cons: Most annoying, the motion sensor/light sensor are not reliable enough for me to use them so I turned both off. When a cloud passed in front of the sun and the room darkened a little the TV would just turn off. Second most annoying is even with art mode just "On" and adaptive brightness is turned off and everything, the TV will sometimes just dim itself way too dark for seemingly no reason. Happens at random intervals and completely breaks the "this is a picture" illusion. Third most annoying is the UI, I'm a custom UI hater by nature and hate slow laggy interfaces. I use this with a home theater PC 90% of the time but when I do have to use the UI it's clunky and laggy. Would most people even notice it? I don't know but I honestly hate even the slightest lag between a button press and the object I'm controlling and this can hang for over a second before responding sometimes, and then it'll pick up and be a little better sometimes. Last and probably least annoying but very noticeable is the light bleed. This panel when showing complete black will have light and dark spots irregularly interspersed across the screen. Some would call it a dealbreaker, I consider it... fine? It's hard to get a matte screen anywhere and I understand a matte screen will always have an issue with displaying true black because it will always be diffusing the light of the room which lightens it. But in this entirely different than light diffusion, this is just straight up bad panel manufacturing. If it's in a well-lit room you shouldn't notice or care because it's hard to notice. If you're in the dark, watching something at night, any black scene will look kinda bad because of the inconsistent backlighting. I can live with it. ... show more
