  • Best new budget phone by far!
I was looking to pickup a budget phone around 3-400 dollars. When I started doing some research, I noticed this deal, where I could get a top-of-the-line phone from 2 years ago for less than half price. Spec-wise, this device is equivalent to the s22 ultra with very minor exceptions (EXTREMELY minor, like camera and variable refresh rate). Comparing this device to all the current budget phones from Google, Apple, Samsung, Nord, Moto, TCL, etc., this device seems to be the best value for the price. Between the refresh rate, battery, AMOLED HDR display (boasting 1400 nits of brightness) , stereo speaker audio, 12gb ram, security/software updates (for at least another couple of years at the time of writing), this phone is absolutely killer. The refurbished part scared me at first, as I normally buy all my devices new, but I have no complaints here. My device genuinely feels brand new. My only complaints about this phone are mostly personal problems rather than the phone being faulty. For example, I kind of hate how clear the front-facing camera is. I may need to get new glasses or something, but the picture is more detailed than looking in the mirror. When I take a selfie, I see all the disgusting blemishes in high detail (I'll work on being less ugly, but regardless, it maybe something to note if you take a lot of selfies, you may need some software to blend the photos a little better). Another complaint is the jarring effect of the main camera trying to switch focus. I don't take very many pictures, but if you're trying to take a fast picture, that might be an issue. The display does not allow for 144hz and 1440p at the same time. It's kind of a bummer, but I'm just excited to finally leave my 60hz life behind. Opening a couple of games, this phone performs extremely well, but I did find it odd that it did not allow for higher graphics options on games like Genshin Impact or Diablo Immortal, since it defaulted these games to high graphics rather than highest (not that I play waifu simulator or Diablo Immoral, but I did need to benchmark my credit card somewhere). Lastly, this may be just my shipment, but the cord did not work for transferring data from my old Note 8 to the S20. Fortunately, you can transfer everything wirelessly, and the cord I got works for fast charging. It's just an odd issue worth noting. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this device. I don't normally write reviews, but here I am writing a book on my experience with it, so maybe that's a testimony in itself. Hopefully this helps someone on-the-fence about picking this one up. Edit: this was purchased from Edge Cellular ... show more

  • Great Phone, Display, Speed. Bad Battery Life.
I received the SM-G988UI UNLOCKED 5G from Chubbiestech. I ordered refurbished GOOD and the phone I received had no visible scratches on the screen. Very very minor scuffs on the sides. Overall in much better condition than I expected. One concern is a very small screen burn/ghost image that is only visible in high brightness settings or on certain bright colors and whites. It has not gotten worse though in the month that I've had it, in fact nobody I have shown it to can really see it. Overall great condition. Will purchase from Chubbiestech again! Thank you Chubbiestech! On to the phone itself... It was a huge upgrade from my Motorola G Power. I have never used an unlocked phone before but, I had no issues getting this phone to work with my Cricket Sim card. Just popped it in and all was good. Getting good 5G speeds on a $30 a month plan. The display is fantastic. Great Speed. Great upgrade for myself as I usually just go with a $100 phone, or upgrade. It has about a 24 hour battery life though... ... show more

  • Worst Phone I've Ever Owned as a Life Long Android Enthusiast
This phone has some of the worst features I've ever seen period. I've never had a phone/product be such a step backwards at this price, EVER. I ended up going back to my Razer phone from 2018 because it's just better in every way. Gonna have to go with Google after this, because nobody else has anything like the quality Razer was making for the price. I should've known Samsung was terrible after I saw how they made the flashlight on the S3 a SEPARATE APP WITH ADS THAT LAGGED THE ENTIRE PHONE. - Back glass of phone broke a month after I got it. Had it in an otterbox and dropped it on a carpeted floor on the backside and it shattered. Now it has to stay in the case or the back will stab you with shards. -Aluminum shell is definitely just aluminum foil, because it's getting scratched inside of a complete case with no dust openings. -Camera (the only reason to buy this phone) doesn't work. 1x - 5x is like looking through cataracts. Everything is blurry, and their quoted fix is "You gotta shake it" which also doesn't work. It also focuses on everything around your subject. Even if you tap exactly where it should focus. I've been missing out on so many cool moments I wanted to capture because of this phone. -Curved screen so you'll never find a screen protector that works. Water gets underneath them and the screen stops working. Also makes typing a chore. It will select every letter around what you want. This also means the fingerprint reader is mediocre as well. To the designer that made the scanner in the screen, you deserve a punch in the teeth. Same to the curved screen guy. Wish they'd stop trying to copy Apple poorly and do their own thing again. -Every update breaks something else or turns settings on you already had to turn off. Like Bixby, Volume controls, Screenshots, etc. -Settings you can't change or are so buried, they're a chore to reach. They're too lazy to sort by alphabetical order, so you have to guess where evrything is at. The search doesn't work either even if you type the exact name of the setting, I guess the search bar has cataracts too. Most of the time there just aren't options to turn off the junk they include. -Bixby is on by default so when you try to shut off the phone it's like "Hey did you wanna use our subpar service you didn't ask for?" I just want to turn off my phone ad free. -Stock keyboard deletes too fast so you end up deleting entire sections of what you want to say and there IS NO WAY TO TURN IT OFF even with a different keyboard installed. It also has the worst autocorrect I've ever seen on any device ever that you cannot turn off. Captalizes random words, wont fix punctuation on obvious stuff. For reference, the terrible screen made me type "autocoppect" and it had no idea what to replace it with SO IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING AND LEFT IT. I typed "everuytime" and it replaced it with "every ingredient". Regularly adds S's and random punctuation to the end of words you didn't want. Always skips capatlizing "i" no matter how many times your reinstall your keyboard or turn "Autocapitalize I" on and off. Even with the Google Keyboard, it seems to keep the terrible suggestions. Doesn't delete extra spaces either. It also won't stop underlining everything it does, so by the end of a message, you just see a mess. It even underlines thr punctuation you miss but it can't figure out when you want to type "the". There's no color difference between the underlines either, soyou can't tell why it's underlined. Is it spelt wrong or did it just edit punctuon? You'll never know. Just do you can see how bad the keyboard is i stopped fixing it because this is what you usually see at the end of the text. So you ALWAYS have to edit every text you type no matter thr context. There is no respite from how bad the keyboard/screen combo is. -Volume buttons don't work on the lock screen so if you had loud music or a video going in a library, and wanted to stay quiet, lord help you. You'll have to unlock it, it'll autoplay and only after it's unlocked will it let you turn it down, SLOWLY, might I add. They said it's for security, and that's cool, but just like how I can turn off screen passwords, they should let you turn off all these junk settings nobody asked for, only to be on by default after the next update. -They have a bad habit of hiding reviews as well. This is my 5th attempt at warning people how bad this phone is, I hope it gets through because I regret wasting the money everytime I look at this scrap heap. ... show more
