As many who own a Samsung Refrigerator, my ice maker decided to take a dump. I did get 13 years of service out of it though. So I ventured into the Youtube realm to figure out how to fix it. It was not repairable so I tried contacting Samsung but that was difficult. So I went to Amazon and found the exact OEM Ice Maker for a decent price. When it arrived, the box was slightly deformed so I thought perhaps it was a return. I removed the old one and popped in the new one and waited. In about 4-5 hours, new ice. I was so glad too. Easy to install if you're handy . What I liked about it is that its making ice and I noticed my old tray smelled. The new ice maker tray doesn't smell so I have no more smelly ice . This is the exact part I needed to repair my Samsung refrigerator. I used my phone to take a picture of the Samsung part number. This item was exactly the same part. It shipped fast and was securely packaged. It took me less than 5 minutes to take the old unit out and replaced it with this one. It filled the ice container overnight.     • Design flaw with the unit has not been resolved...
There is a design flaw with this ice maker that causes it to fail. I know how to resolve the issue, but it was just easier to replace the whole unit. With this said, the unit is very easy to remove and install and ANYONE can do it. It takes about five minutes to remove and install, so this is a simple thing to do. DO NOT pay a repairman to come replace your unit. If your ice maker still has ice in the tray but the ice will not come out, you have encountered the design flaw with this unit. You can pull the tray out by pressing the tab at the front of the unit, and then pulling from the back. You will need to remove the panel to the left of the ice compartment and disconnect a power/communications cable from behind the panel. If you are buying this unit, you can then reverse the process to put the new one in. If you want to repair your existing unit, there is a thermal fuse that you have to replace. I have put a video on YouTube that shows how to do this if you choose to save the money and just replace the fuse. The video title is Samsung Ice Maker Repair - RF4287HARS/XAA AND SIMILAR MODELS. This will show you how to remove/replace the ice maker, and how to get to the thermal fuse. I bought my Samsung fridge brand new 15 years ago and the ice maker just stopped working. It may have been the thermal fuse which could have been a cheaper route but we require ice daily and given the age of the unit I decided to replace the ice maker.
