  • thumbs up !!
Perfect little chrome book. Capable of many tasks.

  • Life changing!
After spending WEEKIS reading reviews for just about every laptop I could find, I bought this laptop for my husband for his birthday. He started his own construction company this year and I decided to buy gifts I know he could use for it. It has made life so much easier! Being able to send estimates out while he is still at the prospective customers home made it worth it alone, but being able to use the tablet feature to quickly take notes of wants and dimensions and using the camera to take before and after pictures, has truly been wonderful. The battery life seems to hold strong all day, the screen quality is superb given the affordability of it. It genuinely is just a great purchase! ... show more

  • Almost Perfect (+ TWO YEAR UPDATE)
I wish I could rate this a full 5 stars, because I honestly do love this Chromebook. As a broke college student, this was pretty much at the upper end of what I could afford as all my classes required me to use some aspect of a laptop, and I was getting annoyed at just having a tablet. I did pay full price for this, and I've had it for a few months now so I feel I can leave an accurate review. One of the first things I noticed when booting up the laptop was the screen. The screen is absolutely beautiful, and I don't know how Samsung delivers for such a low price. It is not the highest resolution by any means, it is after all a Chromebook, however you can barely tell unless you're staring at the screen an inch away (which I do not recommend for the sake of your eyes). The touchscreen works well too, and I've never had any issues with it. The second thing I noticed was the keyboard, and I'll be honest, this keyboard is on par with higher end laptops. It doesn't feel cramped to me at all and my typing speed is just as fast as it was when I used a hand-me-down Microsoft Surface Pro 4. Let's talk about the body. The whole thing looks like it's one unibody piece of aluminum, however only the top lid is metal. The entire bottom part, including the housing for the keyboard, is plastic. The bottom of my laptop already has scratches from me moving it around on a metal table, which isn't a deal breaker but it does mean the structural integrity of the bottom is slightly weaker than it would be if it was all metal. The speakers are also on the bottom so it can be muffled if you don't slightly prop it up on something (though the speakers actually sound pretty good and get loud enough to hear outdoors). Again, for the cheap price, this doesn't really bother me. The other hardware impressed me as well, with 2 USB C ports, both of which are on the same side, one standard USB port, a headphone jack, micro SD card slot, and physical power/volume buttons. In terms of software, this obviously runs Chrome OS and it does, as specified, have Intel Celeron. Not extraordinarily fast but I rarely notice it lag unless I have excessive tabs open. It has 4gb of RAM and mine has 64gb of memory, which I have yet to run out of. Then again I don't download a lot of things on here save for papers and a few apps, and the papers I delete as soon as I turn them in. No major complaints here. The pen. Ah the pen. I use the pen for math notes, as my teacher uploads PDF files of them for each class. The sensitivity levels are fantastic and you can get super thick or super thin lines with ease. It feels very natural, and palm rejection works well (given that the app you're using includes palm rejection). I have also used it for a little doodle for another class, and that all worked just as well. The pen conveniently fits into a slot on the right side with a satisfying click so you know it won't fall out. That being said, let me talk about the things I'm not quite as fond of. Being a Chromebook, I knew I would only be getting Google Play apps and I was prepared for that. Luckily, this laptop does have the Linux Beta, meaning if you know how to work a Linux system you can download apps outside of the Play Store. I was able to download Steam and try out a few games, however I have never gotten one to run anywhere near smooth enough to make an enjoyable gaming experience. Oddly enough, I have tried Don't Starve both on Steam and on Google Play, and the version on Google Play runs infinitely better. It was made specifically to be played on a portable device so it is less task heavy, however I have a sneaking suspicion that Steam in general just does not work well on a Chromebook. Again, not a deal breaker for me, but something to be aware of. Finally, something that bothers me to no end and is the entire reason I took off one star. I haven't read many other reviews of people experiencing this, so I wonder if this is something wrong with my laptop, however it is SO SLOW to start up. I have to open the laptop at least a minute before I expect to use it, because it takes forever to wake up. Another issue is sometimes when pressing the power button on the side it doesn't do anything, and the only loophole I found to that is pressing the refresh button along with the power button. This is actually really annoying, and I don't understand why the button doesn't work 100% of the time. Still is not a deal breaker for me, still not a reason to return it, but it is rather annoying when dealing with this every single time I want to wake the laptop up. Overall, I do absolutely love this Chromebook. I never thought I'd get used to using one, however this laptop has proven me wrong. Minus the ding for the slow start up speed, I honestly would recommend this to anyone looking for a little portable laptop or an entry level one for school. ***TWO YEAR UPDATE*** I bought this in mid-September of 2019 and am still using it as of late August 2021. This laptop has now not only served me but a friend of mine as well for college. There have been some noticeable changes that I feel the need to mention in order to provide the most accurate review. To my point about the power button, I have since learned that for some reason opening the shell of the laptop does not in fact wake it up from sleep mode; a short press of the power button on the side, however, does. Before I assumed the only way to wake it up was as I mentioned pressing the refresh button and power button at the same time which ultimately just restarts the computer. This is not the case but I'm still unsure of why they decided opening the laptop does not wake it up. Again I don't know if this is only for my Chromebook but it is a lot more of a time saver as the screen lights up almost instantly after waking it up. All of the hardware still works perfectly. Every port, the trackpad, the keyboard, all the side buttons, the camera, the sturdy hinge, everything. The screen does not have a scratch on it and is still as bright, beautiful, and vibrant as day one. The speakers, despite being just open holes on the bottom, don't really collect dust nor dirt as I thought it would. The only way I can tell this laptop is not brand new is the scratches on the top lid and bottom. Even then they are quite minor for something that is 2 years old. Now, onto the not so good things. As technology continues to advance and software becomes more and more CPU heavy, older things just cannot keep up. Compared to what we see on phones, tablets, and PCs now a days this laptop does seem rather slow in loading webpages. I'm talking milliseconds slower which realistically isn't much of an issue, but if you have other technology it may seem sluggish. Easy fix, don't compare it to your far more expensive devices! This laptop still runs amazingly and holds battery extremely well for such a small device, but it simply cannot handle the stresses of certain apps or processes anymore. For example, Google Chrome (which of course Chrome OS was designed with the specific intention of using) runs pretty well and is by far the fastest browser. Mozilla Firefox, however, does not. Now I doubt this will be an issue for most people because honestly who uses Firefox in general anymore, but one of my professors did require us to use it. Firefox as an app is borderline unusable on here. Now I don't know if the app itself is just unstable but the pages constantly crashed on me and it couldn't even load a YouTube video properly without, again, crashing. On Google Chrome, the experience is a lot smoother but still has some issues. I cannot send an emoji through Facebook Messenger in the browser without some pretty bad lag. I've had it crash on me when trying to enter certain "heavier" webpages, though usually that's fixed just by clearing the cache and restarting the Google Chrome app. YouTube and my college student pages still work flawlessly, as do pretty much every day to day webpages such as the weather, news articles, online shopping, etc. These are all the things I noticed after my two years of owning this Chromebook. It is definitely showing its age (mostly in its software) but if you are only using it for web surfing, completing school assignments, watching videos or shows, etc. this is still an excellent value. I bought it at $400 back in 2019 and it seems to have since gone down to $350. Given how well it has kept up with my student oriented and many daily tasks, I think it is well worth it. It may not be able to run heavier apps anymore, but are you really looking for something that will at this price point? ... show more

  • Never going to buy a chromebook again.
This thing is so weak, it can't even run PowerPoint without crashing. I was 5 slides into a project for a class, with no pictures or graphics, only words and I tried to drag a slide to change the order when it just froze. I thought it was just a one time issue, so I restarted it and opened PowerPoint again. It took 3 minutes for PowerPoint to start, then I opened what I was working on before and tried to move the slides around. It froze again. This time Chrome and every other Microsoft office program froze with PowerPoint. I uninstalled and reinstalled and the issue is still present. It's like they intentionally made this thing wrong. I'll be returning this thing when I get home from my trip. I'm so disappointed with this thing. I should have just brought my laptop. It's barely bigger, but it can run everything I need and all sorts of video games. AND it barely cost more than this thing. Saying I'm disappointed is a huge understatement. What a joke this thing is. My phone is able to run programs better than this! I don't understand how this thing made it into consumer hands unable to run a program that can be run on a toaster. If this thing starts working properly, I'll change my review. Tldr; Get a regular laptop. This thing can't even run PowerPoint without crashing. 0/10 would not buy again. ... show more

  • Amazing for school! Pen has pressure too!
Perfect Chromebook for school. Talking out of experience here!!! It's amazing to use this comfortable Chromebook with the little stylus pen for drawing things like quick notes or sketches for assignments!! The touch screen is good for quick movements like turning in things or moving objects on screen. It's well worth the money and has amazing battery life too! At least in my experience. Just make sure to take care of it! ... show more
