I think the quality of these boots have gone down hill. I uses to buy them and they would last a year with daily use now the rubber fails off and the rubber on the side and toe are failing off

Got them for a trip out to the Rockies, did not break them in as much as I would have liked, maybe only 5-10 miles and they were still great! Everyone’s feet in my group were hurting except mine. Feet stayed dry and well supported. Would absolutely recommend.

So, earlier this year I purchased some Salomon shoes (Speedcross 5s) and wow, were they comfortable. So I decided to take a chance on their hiking boots for more serious hikes, and I ordered these in the same size that fit in the Speedcrosses. You never know how things are going to fit until you try them on, so it was a bit of a chance. These being serious hiking boots, I needed them to have extra room in the toe area to accommodate thicker socks--and that area of the boot was indeed larger in the same size. More importantly, I could actually put on some incredibly thick socks and the lacing system would let the boot expand to fit them perfectly. In a word--could not be happier with the fit. I also really feel the ankle support up and down the boot, and if you're the kind of stumbling klutz I am after 6 hours on the trail, this is greatly appreciated. Solid ankle support has saved me multiple times from tears and sprains that I could ill afford on long hikes. Durability--I can't tell yet. Will update in a year or so if I remember. I have ordered versions of this Salomon product for years, and I highly recommend it. I have bad ankles and high arches. I have to put special inserts into the soles because of my high arches, but the boots are awesome. Some say that they are heavy and bulky. In a nutshell, so what?! I hike in rocky and heavily rooted areas, where these boots have saved my toes and ankles over and over again. I have to work them in a little because they are stiff when you first purchase them, but they conform to your feet. They can take a pounding too. I slowly shift older pairs to be my work boots and have worked them to death until the soles break away. I live in Wyoming, so the GTX is very helpful and the boots take a beating. These are not waterproof, so using them in the snow as snowboots is dumb. I know that not all boots are for everyone, but these are great for both hiking and backpacking. Again, yes, they are heavier than other boots, but they protect your feet endlessly. ... show more
