    • Decent light/medium-duty jumper cables- nice length

I waited several months to post this review wanting to actually use the cables a few times to be able to evaluate them accurately. I have used them to jump both passenger cars and diesel pickup trucks. The cables come in a carrying bag which is OK, lightly made, but suitable for light use. The cables are flexible enough to be easily coiled up and put back into the bag. The packed cables are nice and compact, small enough to fit under most seats or in an out-of-the-way corner of a truck or truck-bed toolbox. As others have noted, 4-gauge Copper Clad Aluminum cables are not as durable or conductive as pure copper cables, but more that sufficient for passenger cars, outboard boats and small construction equipment. The cables are longer than many other sets, which I see as a definite advantage, especially when trying to reach batteries that are not at the front of the engine compartment, or buried in a boat hull. The clamps are decent, again not really heavy-duty or suitable for commercial use, but fine for occasional use. The claps open wide enough to attach over the battery cable connectors, and seem strong enough to hold well. I wanted to use them to try to jump start a medium duty diesel pickup with a flat battery before posting a review, and now have used them several times to do just that. They did the job better than I had anticipated. Not as well as another set of much heavier gauge pure copper commercial jumpers that I have, but these did provide enough juice to jump an F-350 with totally flat batteries. Pros: Decent carrying bag, long enough to be useful in most situations, flexible, decent clamps Cons: Cables are a bit light gauged, and made of copper-clad aluminum, not pure copper. Clamps are OK, but not heavy duty. Overall- a nice decent set of cables more than sufficient for occasional use for jumping light to medium-duty vehicles. Did I say I liked the extra length? Price is right, and they are perfect to keep in your car or pickup for emergency use. A bargain compared to the cost of having AAA or a tow company come out to give you a jump. ... show more

I tested these out and they work just fine. I even reversed polarity on some batteries out of the cars and it worked as advertised and gave a warning that things were not done correctly. These are not as thick of a wire and have a little less insolation than my other set, but those ones are heavy duty. These ones work just fine for personal use when simply jumping a car, SUV, or small truck with a dead or low battery. They store nicely with my spare tire too =) ... show more

    • Good set of jumper cables for cars & light trucks
Size: 4 Gauge - 18 Feet
This set of 18-foot 4-gauge jumper cables are a good option for any car or light truck. The 4 gauge copper clad aluminum is provides for low resistance, high amperage power transfer from the good vehicle to the depleted battery and should get the vehicle started with no problem. The 18 foot length is plenty for head-to-head or head-to tail reach for smaller vehicles, but may struggle for longer vehicles in a head-to-tail situation (never use two sets of cables connected together). When rolled up and placed in case, they don't take up too much space in your trunk which is an advantage of not having longer cables. The copper clad aluminum is not as good a pure copper in my opinion, but is more cost effective and sufficient for cars and light trucks. The clamps are of average quality -- certainly not cheapo clamps, but they are not coated for rust prevention like others I have seen in this price range and they don't have as good a tooth design as other alternatives in this price range. I'll also note that you can get 20 foot, 4-gauge copper clad aluminum cables from name brand suppliers for this price or slightly less and that extra 2 feet and nicer clamps may be a better option. The one unique feature of these cables is reverse polarity protection that is supposed to warn you if you hook them up backward. I didn't want to risk trying this, but I assume it works as advertised. I do think it is pretty rare that someone who has jumper cables would hook them up backward, but it is probably a nice little safety feature to have so I don't want to complete discount that unique feature. SUMMARY: A nice set of jumper cables for a car or truck that should get you started and running again in an emergency in most situations. While there are other alternatives for similar price that have some slightly nicer features, this one has the unique reverse polarity detector. You should decide whether that is more valuable or the other alternatives better clamps and longer length for similar price are more beneficial. ... show more
