This is a quick review of the Ruko R111 RID Module. US pilots with older model drones like the DJI Phantom series, Mavic Pro, Mavic Air, or any non-RID-compliant drone >250 grams will want to take a look at this new R111 RID Module offering from Ruko. The unit is fully self-contained, lightweight at under 14 grams, & extremely easy to set up. The R111 also offers a small footprint of 1.4" x 1.2" x 0.5". Setup is simple with the Ruko Scanner app, which allows configuring the device as well as functioning as a RID scanner application. Pair the R111 to your phone with the app, set your FAA Registration ID, then add the device to your FAA DroneZone device list & you are all set to legally operate all of your legacy drones or RC aircraft. About 5-10 minutes & you are good to go. The R111 features a USB-C charging port which fully charges the device in ~40 minutes. Note: Use a charger <15 watts or the device will not charge! Once full it will operate continuously for ~5 hours. GPS lockup is quick (~30-60 seconds). For ease-of-use there are only two buttons. A 3 second press of the Power button turns the device on & off. Once on a 3 second press of the Setting button puts the module in Setting Mode so you can pair it to your phone (via the Ruko Scanner app) & enter your information. When done press Save & restart the device to have the changes become active. The R111 includes 3 Status LEDs. LED 1 indicates charge status. Red for charging, green for full. LED 2 indicates GPS lock. Solid green indicates a lock. LED 2 doubles as a low-battery alert, blinking red when the battery is low. LED 3 blinks green to indicate the unit is functioning properly. Included is a well-written manual, a USB-A to USB-C cable, & 3 sets of Velcro pads for attaching the unit to your aircraft. The device is much smaller than I anticipated & easily adaptable to even small drones. I cannot comment on range as I have not specifically tested it for this. Personally I don't care if the range is 1' as I only care about being legal, NOT how far it transmits. The unit shows up on the Ruko Scanner app, as well as in the AirSense & DroneScanner apps. Recreational pilots can purchase a single module & share it among all aircraft. Part 107 pilots will need to purchase a separate module for each bird operated in 107 mode. All told I believe this to be a great buy as it is the most affordable self-contained RID module currently available. ... show more

My husband was the reviewer of this item: "As an FAA Part 107 Certificated Remote Pilot, I need equipment that is both reliable and high-performing. The Ruko R111 Remote Identification (RID) module has exceeded my expectations in every way. I installed it on my DJI Mini 4K drone, and the results have been impressive. One of the standout features is the signal strength. Initially, I needed to be within 46 meters to acquire a signal using the Ruko app on iOS. However, once connected, the app maintained a strong signal at a distance of over 5000 meters. This is incredible for a module of this size and price point! In my testing, the module was placed outdoors at an elevation of approximately 1 meter and remained stationary. I was able to drive my vehicle with the app running, and despite not being in the line of sight, the signal remained strong and consistent. Overall, the Ruko R111 RID module has proven to be a dependable and powerful addition to my drone setup. I highly recommend it to any remote pilot looking for a robust and long-range identification solution. I purchased this module and I am providing a sincere personal review. You may be asking, is the module signal at 5K meters legit? TBH, I do not know. It is possible that, once connected to the app, the distance is based on my distance travelled on GPS.     • Inexpensive but Works.
Updated.. after initial review that the app to program the RID was not compatible with a new Android tablet, Ruko responded and provided a link to a patched Android version to test. I was able to initially use a iPad mini to program it. The book that comes with has a decent procedure to register FAA. Not happy I needed one, and it takes up the spot where my strobe went,but at least it is inexpensive and makes the old drone compliant, and Ruko is responsive. Ruko maybe consider a combo device RID and strobe. I will update after testing tablet update. ... show more

We have an older DJI Mini 2, which does not have built-in Remote ID. While I was annoyed that I couldn't fly legally without acquiring another piece of equipment (that cost money and added weight), I was pleased with this module. It's very light weight and budget friendly compared to others on the market. It was easy to set up and use. Once it connected to GPS, it stayed connected. All in all, I have zero complaints, and I definitely recommend it. ... show more

    • Small, light weight and does the magic!
Small in size and very lightweight. Easy to mount and very easy to utilize. Connects to GPS very quickly, even in congested areas. Battery life is exact but noticed it differs depending on the weather temps, just like your drone battery would reach the same. I get over 5hrs on a good day after multiple use. Does provide great precise location, as well as does not interfere any signals or interrupt the balance of the drone. Just make sure to mount it on the place where the center of weight of the drone, so you don't lean on certain rotors. ... show more

    • cool little module, has non remote id benefits
This has its own power supply and is easy to Velcro which makes it really convenient. I used it to find my drone in my first ever crash when I lost power. It paid for itself in its first use. There is something very wrong with the companion app tracking, it thinks I’m a mile away from where the unit actually is.     • It works and it is light
I had to add this to a sub 250 quad because I am flying it under part 107. So far it has worked great and it is really light fir a stand alone unit with an internal battery. I will need one more broadcast remote ID unit, and this will be the one I buy again.
