It’s velvety soft, and very nice! It is super thin so buy the thick pad, you won’t regret it! I love ours but I do feel colors are a little more muted than I would like…my naughty little chucklehead Boston Terrier peed in the corner, twice…yep same corner…we cleaned with the steamer and carpet shampooer and a LOT of water…it all came out no smell, no damage, and my dog hasn’t peed there again, so must be we got it all. Point is the rug & pad stood up to scrubbing/dousing with water. My friends have a similar size (8’ x 10’?) and threw it in their home washing machine; no issues. This rug is beautiful, and after a dog diarrhea accident I was amazed that I fit the whole 8 X 10 thing in my washer and got it clean, hung it to dry and it came out looking and smelling like new. Plenty of compliments.
