I have been searching for something for my service dog to wear to carry the contents of my purse. He's a rough Collie, which means very long hair, so anything with velcro is a disaster. This pack is not bulking, but my dog is able to carry everything I need. He actually gets excited when he sees me pull out his "work rig." All the many places where it can be adjusted made it fit him perfectly! I was getting very discouraged until I found the Ruffwear Switchback. Just an FYI - I don't use it as a harness, as I prefer a martingale collar for better control, but I did try it that way, several times, to see if he could get out of it, which is always a concern with a harness. I have a 50lb Husky/Heeler mix and purchased a medium. After sizing the vest to my dog, none of the steps were maxed-out. The staps allow for a bit of space to tighten and a lot of room to loosen - I believe a small would have also fit my dog. The product is very durable and is excellent in different weather conditions. My dog and I have run in heavy snow, and it kept her dry. The pockets are great for pooper bags, treats, and other small items. I use it mainly to run with my dog, and it sometimes shifts depending on the side she is running on. The straps are difficult to adjust. However, once the straps are in place, they don't move. Our pit mix has very short hair and a mostly bare belly. The rear straps on this harness rubbed chafed her bare areas after only a day of west. This isn’t necessarily an indictment of the product (maybe there isn’t a solution to this problem), but I wish there were some sort of padding on the back straps to prevent this from happening. ... show more

Odd sizing. Won’t stay fit on dog and flops to the side. My dog is 28 lbs. The x-small was too tight when fully loose. The small is too loose when all straps are pulled to the tightest setting. Also, after 2 hikes the zipper tore at the seam. I’ve now owned two packs from Ruffwear. Both had sizing problems. Both torn at a seam. These packs are too expensive to not fit properly and to fall apart within 1 week of purchase. I really hoped they improved sizing and fit 6 years between my first pack purchase and this one.
