  • Nice pack, but rubbed my poor dogs pits completely raw!
Size: Medium (Pack of 1) Color: Red Currant
I am a professional dog hiker. I take groups of 6 dogs trail running and hiking every day M-F rain or shine and in summer months that means I have to pack a lot of water for the dogs which can hurt my back. I take my 80lb Labradoodle with me every day and was hoping to have him share some of the load. At first this pack seemed PERFECT! It fit him well, and after a few fails with other packs I thought we'd finally found one that would be perfect. Unlike others this one didn't shift on his back from one side to the other which was a big deal, but unfortunately after a few hikes I noticed that the straps were chaffing his poor little "arm pits" of his front legs really badly. The spots were super red and raw and I couldn't keep it. Maybe it was just my dog and the way it fit his body but I was super sad. This seems like the perfect pack otherwise. I love the design, I love the included perfectly sized squeeze water bladders and we have another ruff wear harness that we've had for years now and is still going strong, so I know the quality is very high. Sadly it just didn't work for us. ... show more

  • We love it!
Size: Medium (Pack of 1) Color: Red Currant
YOUR DOG NEEDS THIS PRODUCT. I love having water on hand on our long walks. This hydration pack is the perfect size. I can easily also fit poop bags, a water bowl, and my wallet/keys. I'm so glad I opted for this hydration pack instead of a bigger pack, which I realize now would have been overkill for walks around the neighborhood. I love the convenience of getting a poop bag or her water out of the harness so easily. It fits really well against her body. As you can see in the picture, it's inobstrusive. My dog occasionally has longer fur, and I've found that other harnesses seem to pinch her fur, but she wears this one easily enough. I *love* the handle on top, which makes walking so much easier when my dog gets excited in a crowded place. With summer around the corner, I also appreciate that I can add the water-cooler under-attachment piece! I think that idea is BRILLIANT and you can tell this company is for people who love and adore their dogs, and try to make them as comfortable as possible. The elastic, padding on the straps, and even the partly-enclosed clasp all seem geared for the dog's comfort. Thank you Ruffwear. The only thing I would change is the color. It's is much more of a bright superman red... I wish it was more muted/maroon-y like I was expecting. If they made this in a burnt orange color, I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. So, Ruffwear .... let me know if that happens. ... show more

  • Perfection
Size: Medium (Pack of 1) Color: Blue Dusk
This pack has been all over the US with me and my Belgian Mal. He carries his own water on long hikes, and the handle lets me help him when we're traversing deep water or on rocky/unstable terrain. Love it.

  • Great harness
Size: Medium (Pack of 1) Color: Blue Dusk
I have three of these dog harnesses, and they’ve lasted almost a decade, for many hiking trips and car rides (I use them for a car harness, because the seatbelt can go through the handle on top). I adopted a new dog, and he only fit the exact harness my other dog was still using. I ordered this one for him. The quality is fantastic, it’s sturdy and it comes with two platypus water bladders. The pockets are large enough to hold the bladders and a collapsible bowl, some treats, and maybe an extra leash. I love the color, as well. The sizing has changed somewhat. The older harness I had said it was a size S/M. I ordered the S, but it only barely fit my dog (a 50# English Pointer). I ended up exchanging it for a medium. My lab is also 50# but has very broad shoulders and wears a Large. ... show more

  • Doggy Trail Pack
Size: Medium (Pack of 1) Color: Red Currant
If you have a working dog this is an excellent way to make your pup feel like he has a job. Fits really well on my cattle dog and he seems to enjoy it. I started out with no weight on some really technical trails we do in Hawaii and it hasn’t affected his ability to trail run. I usually carry the water anyway, so he’ll likely carry whatever misc supplies I have. I like how minimal the pack is, it doesn’t look like it overheats him but definitely gives him more of a challenge, which is good when you have a high energy dog like a blue heeler. Only criticism I have are the straps. I got him the medium, and he’s a 40lb dog. The excess strap after fitting it to him kinda dangle which get dirty and gets caught in the crossfire when he takes a pee break. I wish there was a piece of Velcro or something to tuck away that excess strap. ... show more

  • Love the utility of the pack and harness combo
Size: Medium (Pack of 1) Color: Blue Dusk
This is *exactly* what I was looking for. My 35-pound mixed breed dog (German Shepherd x husky x chow, trim waist but with a very deeply barreled chest, like a German Shepherd) wears a harness when we walk/hike, and I wanted a doggy backpack that could double-function as a harness so I could clip her leash to it. This backpack works great for that situation. I need to tinker with the straps to keep the backpack from sliding around too much (side to side), but the Medium size was the right pick for her body size/style. I haven’t tried it with any weight yet or with the water bladders filled. Just wanted to get her used to wearing it without any weight first. Aside from some sliding side to side, which I will probably be able to fix by tightening the two under the belly straps, she managed it very well. The pockets on either side are pretty small/flat (which is what I wanted), but they will hold the included water bladders (which appear to hold a little bit more than a 20 ounce water bottle, give or take). I don’t want her to carry a whole lot of stuff anyway, but just keep in mind you won’t be able to put a whole lot in the side pockets. I plan to carry the water bladders, if she can do OK with that weight/bulk. But you could also carry little things like keys, snacks, poop bags, etc. I might even have her carry out her own poop, which we might need to do on our hikes in national forests & parks. The pack is solidly constructed, a pretty color (I chose the turquoise blue) and the snaps are typical style for dog collar/harnesses and work fine. There’s good padding on the front chest strap, which is where most of the pressure will be if you are connecting your leash to the hook on top. I don’t know how comfortable it is for the dog, but she didn’t seem to fuss much about it, and she is generally kind of fussy. So it passed inspection for our first hike! ... show more
