  • Works well with thoughtful and careful installation
Style: Rain Barrel
Read the other reviews. Especially, the one that advises to be sure plastic shavings not inside the rain barrel. We fashioned our own stand from about 2 dozen extra bricks our builder left us. No cement but four courses high of bricks gives clearance for us to fill the watering pitcher from the spigot on the bottom. From the photos in other reviews, it appears that some customers are challenged installing the spigot. Putting the spigot in is not rocket science. Carefully wrap the plastic tape neatly and tightly around the threads of the spigot. The direction of the wrap should be the opposite direction you will be carefully turning the spigot into the pre-drilled hole. Take to place properly so you do not cross thread the spigot. Do not over-tighten the spigot. Better to add another couple of wraps of teflon tape so the spigot is vertical but tight. Note that I used a downspout diverter and soaked the hose flattened by shipping to soften with hot tap water for 15 minutes or so. Enjoy your rain barrel. ... show more

  • Let's go eco
Style: Rain Barrel
We bought one to see if we liked this kind, we definitely like the price compared to others we've seen. The first night we had it installed we got a huge rain and filled it. It was simple attaching the screen and getting it installed so we said let's go on ordering two more. I would say I'll probably be ordering two more before long and you can get them with the connection piece to chain them ... show more

  • Decent, has some issues not uncommon to all rain barrels
Style: Rain Barrel
Issues w/ this specific Product: -It does bulge, as others have noted. They should have just made this round b/c that's a stronger shape, and the shape this thing wants to get to. -it expands quite a bit when it's hot. Don't screw in both sides of the screen b/c when hot, it will stretch, and when cold it will buckle. screw in one side. it also lets you peek inside that way. -You need a drill to add the side overflow nipple. Not a huge deal, but it's an uncommon tool (hole drill). Also, the flat area for mounting this is several inches lower than the top. That's several inches of water that you will not capture. -Front drain - if they're going to make you drill a hole for the side drain, they should have done the same thing for the front drain. I'd rather not have it, but it's three, awkwardly protruding like a big nose. -Plastic hose bib. come on, a brass one is 5 bucks at the home store, but the models that come with it cost like $30 more. Total nonsense. I expect that this will need to be replaced. it's also quite low flow, and has a cheap gasket that deforms a lot when you close it. On the bright side, it doesn't leak as others have noted. The threads aren't tight to the hose other, you need a hose washer that costs a dime. Issues w/ ANY rain barrel like this: -Hose bib is a couple of inches up. You need to prop this up anyway, might as well make the opening lower so you can actually get at the water that's in the bottom. I guess if it fills up w/ enough junk from the roof it will turn into a slurry eventually. I don't look forward to cleaning it either b/c it will never wash out, and there is no easy access to the inside of this barrel. -water pressure stinks. i don't know if it's the cheap bib or the natural pressure of that much water, but it comes out too slowly to go very far once it leaves the hose. If you can see my pic of my setup, i bought a 24' 1.25" sump pump hose that came with 2 nipples. I made holes in the top and the overflow areas that would fit these fittings, and got a nice long plastic tube for the drain. it also means I don't have splashing on the top of the barrel as the water goes directly in. i used one of those 4" white 2-piece diverters. i cut a foot off the 24' hose to attach the top nipple to the downspout and used the remainder to divert the water away from the house. when it's really pouring and this is at capacity I get a nice amount of water coming out the side, so you can tell how quickly this barrel fills up. it's attached to a downspout that drains ovre 600 sq ft of roof. ... show more

  • Lightweight and simple setup to set up.
Style: Rain Barrel
I leveled up an area and put down some bricks, connected a piece of garden hose from the catchment on the downspout to the attachment on the side of the barrel and it's ready to go! Looking forward to watering my garden with rain water instead of tap water.
