I couldn't find reviews with good images of the dark brown color, so I wasn't sure if it was a paint or a stain where you could see the wood grain, but I decided to give it a shot, hoping for stain. I would say it's a semi-opaque stain but you definitely can see the subtle grain pattern, but with a smooth surface texture, and it looks really nice. It's a nice red brown cherry color, just what I was looking for, and is very nice quality. I also saw conflicting answers as to what the width of the wood was, which was important for my purposes, so for anyone else wondering, definitively, it's 13/16" wide.     • Nice frame, but has noxious order when first unpacked.

The frame is a good value, but smelled like noxious chemicals when unpacked. It is being used as a gift, so I loaded the picture, but I won't be packing back into it's original box
