  • VW Jetta 2.0 TDI
Size: 20 Ounce
This is the cheapest I can find this exact product anywhere, I use it in my VW Jetta TDI 2.0 About 1/5 of the can for a 15 Gal tank, as this stuff is concentrated. I'm at 150,000 miles as of writing this, I like to run this twice a year (4-5 consecutive fill ups at a time) keeps the fuel delivery / throttle response, and engine running smooth. I have never had any codes kick on relating to the DPF/Regen system since using this. Also works exceptionally well as an anti-gel for freezing temperatures - easy start every time (tested in Upstate NY) ... show more

  • Helped With Start, Idle, Driveability, Power
Size: 20 Ounce
I was researching the cause of a really rough idle. I went through maintenance manual dance of changing a damping adjuster, etc, etc, but not much improvement came. But in the research low cetane rating kept getting mentioned here and there as a cause of rough idle. From what I read US diesel fuel has low cetane value (around 40 to 45) rather than 52 minimum as legally required in Europe. When I mixed this MAX TANE stuff into my fuel at the minimum dosage (1 ounce to 5 gallons) I was soon getting a smoother idle. The idle went between just fine mostly and occasionally a bit rough. At the next tank I went 1 ounce to 4 gallons and then she just purred and has ever since. I have been using this stuff for about 12 months and now I swear by it. Also: Starting is quicker, throttle response is clearly better, more power is had too. The car is a 1985 Mercedes 300D. ... show more

  • Much better MPG!
Size: 20 Ounce
Significant improvement in my city mpg. I typically get 16-17 mpg in the city and about 20-21 mpg at 65mph and 14mpg towing my 5th wheel at roughly 60 mph +-10mph. I've run this in the last 3 tanks of fuel and averaged 20 mpg city driving. I mix it 1.5 to 2 times stronger than the minimum recommended. My engine is running quieter and smoother. I have an injector that's going bad and sticks open but sounds much better now. NOTE: just before using royal purple I used seafoam in my fuel bowl to hot soak my injectors, this may have affected my mpg. No highway driving yet but I have a trip coming up soon. I have a 96 F350 4x4 single cab 7.3L turbo diesel with a standard trany. I have used two chips with little to no change except for smoke. I accelerate a little faster than most drivers but I try not to ... show more

Immediate results. I will definitely use again. I put a little bit in the filter housing under the hood and put a littile in the tank. There are reviews that people moan and groan about the "short" neck of the bottle...some people Will try to hard to complain about ANYTHING!! All you need is a little common sense and there will be NO problem. ... show more

  • Really helped clean out my clogged injectors
Size: 20 Ounce
Prior to using this I had 4 of 8 injectors starting to stick. On cold starts it would throw out white smoke until it came to running temp and would run with reduced power. After using this stuff for about half a tank I noticed starts were easier, there's no white smoke on cold starts and overall the engine seems to be running substantially better. Between this and revving the engine/running it a bit hard to clear out build up, I think I bought myself a good bit of time on a quoted $3500 injector replacement job, ... show more

  • I use a cetane booster as recommended and my Duramax is smooth and quiet
Size: 20 Ounce
I use this in my Duramax at each oil change and fuel filter change. Pour what you can in the fuel filter and then install filter on truck. Put what is left, if any, into the fuel. When you start the truck this is the way to clean your injectors and save bucks since the dealer does almost the same thing but they use a fancy machine. I've been doing this for 10 years and all my injectors are humming along. All original. Also, I use .25 ounce synthetic two-stroke oil per gallon of fuel. This make a huge differnce in your injector life and the sound of your engine. Finally, I use a cetane booster as recommended and my Duramax is smooth and quiet. ... show more

  • Quieter idle and fewer re-generation cycles
Size: 20 Ounce
Pros: My car is now much quieter at most RPM's, especially idle. Haven't noticed a re-gen cycle in over 1,000 miles! (car must be running clean) No decrease in fuel economy. Cons: Hard to get out of the bottle and into the tank without making a mess. No noticeable increase in fuel economy. Have to use high doses to notice quieter engine. I would recommend that others try Max-Tane, but I wouldn't make any promises to them about it's performance. I bought a second bottle to give it more of a chance to prove itself. Max-Tane made some improvements to my 2011 Mercedes Bluetec. I've used it for over 1,000 miles so far and the two biggest improvements I've seen are that the idle is so quiet now that few people would realize I was driving a diesel car, and I haven't noticed the car go through a re-gen cycle since I started using Max-Tane. There used to be a re-gen cycle every 200 miles or so which ends up burning extra fuel and making the exhaust system really really hot! The engine was always fairly quiet at idle, but now it is noticeably quieter. It now sounds like a gasoline powered car that isn't quite running right. I started out running the recommended minimum dosing of 1 oz. to 5 gallons of diesel and noticed little to no difference in the engine operation. I don't think the engine went into re-gen though while I was running the minimum dosing so the engine was likely burning its fuel more completely. When I went to high end of the recommended dosing 1 oz. to 2 gallons of diesel is where I found a noticeable difference in the sound of the engine. The idle is now so quiet most people probably wouldn't realize that I was driving diesel car nor that they were riding in one. The engine being a common rail was always pretty quiet, but now it's quieter at almost any RPM and load. Overall I didn't notice any change in power output. I didn't buy Max-Tane for that purpose and they don't have stuff written all over the bottle that says it will increase power. As for the not so great things... I had to run the high of the dosing to NOTICE a difference, no improvement in fuel economy, hard to get out of the bottle without making a mess. When I used the maximum recommended amount of the Max-Tane/diesel ratio I clearly noticed a difference with the engine. This takes the "treats 100 gallons"! on the front of the bottle down to 40 gallons worth of treatment. With my car, that comes out to about 1,000 miles or a little over two diesel fill-ups. I have bought another bottle of Max-Tane and will adjust the usage to see if I notice the same improvement with smaller treatments. According to the car's trip/fuel economy computer calculation, there was no noticeable improvement in miles per gallon. In Royal Purple's defense, since the car was new it has averaged 33 mpg (according to the car's computer) and I can get it as high as 45 if I'm careful and do 65 mph so it would be difficult to improve those numbers much without aerodynamic changes! My daily average has remained the same as far as I can tell 28-33 mpg. This car isn't driven the same route daily so the average isn't based on a set distance with the same speeds. I'm usually pretty gentle on the go pedal and drive the speed limit. There may be a more noticeable fuel economy improvement for someone that drives a larger truck since the fuel consumption is so much higher in them to begin with. I've only used this stuff in my 4,000 pound sedan with a 3 liter V-6. I do record the miles traveled every time I fill up, but haven't calculated fuel usage by hand yet. This stuff is hard to use! The bottle has a very short neck, a small opening (1/2"), and it's a metal can with no gauge on it. What I've used so far is a 1 oz. syringe with a long plastic tube on it to reach into the bottle and get a good measurement. In the future I may use some sort of measuring cup and long funnel. It might be nice if Max-Tane had some sort of straw you could attach to the neck of the bottle to pour it into the diesel tank or in 20 gallon dose bottles? This stuff has a strong odor! Like other diesel additives, even one drop emits a strong chemical odor. It loves to spill down the side of the bottle and get all over your hands and everything else so you end up smelling like diesel additive. It's also tough to keep off the paint because of the lack of pouring provisions. The way it smells, who knows what it could end up doing to the paint job! ... show more
