    • Great tool, junky bits
This rotary tool and its case are really very nice. It's got a decently powerful motor and a lot of good accessories including the debris shield and a flexible shaft extension for getting into smaller spaces. I really have no complaints about the tool itself and the case it comes in is pretty solid, though, it's not always clear which way is the 'top' even with the arrows on the latches, do they mean this way up? This way down? I keep forgetting, need to just put a label on it. The only real complaint I have is the bits, they're very cheap and flimsy. Some of them are fine enough, the sand paper discs are okay being that those are meant to be essentially disposable but I would NOT trust the grinding discs or the various shaped abraders, they like to fragment and break really easily. The metal bits are functional but quite slow, like they were already worn out. This isn't a huge issue though since it's a generic chuck so you can get your own bits for it and that solves that! I do think it's a shame that a tool that is of such great up front quality comes with such low end bits, but I suppose they have to save money somewhere. This is an easy tool to recommend but be ready to source your own bits and discs. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Obviously Dremel controls the handheld rotary multi-tool space through their advertising and distribution deals with big box home centers, but, and that’s a biiiig BUT, this Hardell is a superior value to its competitors, and in many ways, a superior tool. First, what I don’t like… there’s no LED light at the tip. That’s a big benefit of the competition. Point two, the shaft where the chuck and collet is located is encased in plastic instead of metal, and when using the flex pen extension, it is very easy to cross thread the aluminum nut on the plastic threads. However, these things are minor inconveniences when you consider this same speed rotary tool with this number of accessories, 178, would cost you about three times more from Dremel. This tool is corded, and heats up quickly at high speeds, so it is recommended not to use for more than 15 minutes continuously. The two motor brushes are replaceable on this model as they are with the Dremel, and the LED readout is big and beautiful. The flex pen attachment is over three feet long (39.3-inches to be exact) and is a great help for precise work when you don’t want to hold the tool. See my video for a demonstration. There are three brass collets for various sized shafts, so if you want to use attachments made for other brands, that is not a problem. I like that. The six speed motor ranges from 10,000 rpm to 35,000 rpm, and like I said, the Dremel model that reaches 35,000 rpm is $124 right now. The instruction manual is clear to read and operation is a breeze, even for non mechanically-inclined people. This tool comes with every attachment you will ever need, and even a drill guide and splatter shield if so desired. This tool is just great for hobby, delicate cleaning and polishing of small things, and all sorts of crafting, but it is also good for light duty and precise work in a shop environment. The media could not be loaded. I've used many rotary tools for various small projects but most of them haven't had the power or the digital display that this one features. It's quite a powerful tool, and you can feel the torque when you turn it on. The LED screen shows the current speed in a large easy-to-read font. It's helpful to be able to see the speed at a glance. It has separate up / down speed buttons that make it simple to change the speed while working, which I prefer to having to use a dial. The rotary tool comes with a bunch of accessories in their own case. The tool, the flex-shaft and all the accessories fit neatly into a hard case with a carry handle. The set is quite portable and I'll be sure to find everything together the next time I use it. I like to use the drill bit to create drainage in the bottom of my flower pots. It's easier to use this tool than it is to use a big drill. And unlike my rechargeable drill, this is always ready to use. It's not as noisy as a drill, either, and it's much easier to hold. I also love the polishing capabilities this tool has. It allows me to polish jewelry and even remove burrs from glass edges. The flex-shaft included can be used for big projects where holding the motor would become tiring. This is great to have for jewelry making, polishing silverware, and wood carving. It makes it easy to access hard-to-reach areas. I'm very happy with this rotary tool. It's a powerful, multi-tasking tool that's perfect for a variety of DIY projects.     • Much Better Than A Dremel Two Or Four Speed.
I have purchased Dremel rotary drills for years. In the past I have only purchased brand name Dremel tools and accessories. This Hardell made rotary tool changed my mind forever. This tool is FANTASTIC with its LCD read out and the six different speed settings. This is what really impressed me, on speeds one through four which is the slowest speeds, you still get significant torque. On the Dremel two or four speed tools, there is little or no torque on the lower speeds. You can grab the spinning bit and stop the rotation without hurting your bare fingers. The accessories that come with the Hardell are exact copies of the Dremel parts. You can hold them side by side and not see any difference, except for the price of course. This comes with all kinds of grinding bits, and several cut off wheels. It is the cut off wheels that are a dead giveaway that this is not Dremel. They are using the old method to retain the cut off wheels, which is the 1/8" shaft and the miniature screw in the center. All new Dremel kits usually come with their new "Quick Change" system of twist off wheels. ... show more
