    • It's too weak to be useful
I got this thing and unboxed it and I got excited. It feels well built and the speed settings give you a good range. I plugged it in to fully charge it and then tried it out with a cutting disk on a metal computer case (super thin). As soon as I applied any reasonable pressure to the device to make it cut instead of just skip around the surface, the motor would struggle and stop. It does this on every speed. I wasn't able to apply enough pressure to cut the metal without it dying, major issue. I also tried one of the grinding cylinders and had the same problem, as soon as I apply enough pressure to make it effective the motor dies. I mean it literally powers down the device I guess as a safety feature to save the struggling motor. I can turn it right back on and then it just does it again 5 seconds later. This is useless for anything heavier than light polishing and possibly glass etching. ... show more

Rpm range of 5k-20k. Around the tip there is a led lighted defused ring around the entire tool. I really enjoy that feature. Unit charges fairly fast in a few hours from dead. Easy operation with power level (1-5) indicator. Long press the power button to turn on and then short press power button to change speeds. I wish there was a short press button to check the battery level but alias there is not. To check battery level you have to turn it on. There is a 5 minute long memory for power settings. So if you turn the tool off at setting 2 and turn it back on before 5 minutes has passed then it will start back on setting 2. However if you wait 1 second over 5 minutes then it will revert to base programed setting of 3. This isn't really a bad thing or an inconvenience as it is really easy to change speed settings. The instruction booklet is very small, (3" wide by 5" long) and difficult to read. Print is so small it will require squinting or a magnifying glass. Most of the book is warnings with a few pages on specs and operations. 1 page with recommended speed ranges for accessories and projects. It tells how to change the accessories and speed ranges for tools, but really doesn't say what tools can be used for or practical uses. So if you are new to these tools please watch some videos and get some instruction from someone who does and ALWAYS wear eye protection. I have a corded off brand rotary tool that I have used for years. That one is extremely loud while this one is very quiet comparingly. My Corded one has a variable speed such as this one however the corded one has a max speed of 35k while this one is 20k. While that isn't going to affect most people and their projects it will affect some. Especially when cutting metals or dense materials. So just keep that in mind. The wonderful thing about this tool is that is uses standard sizes for mandrels and accessories so you WILL be able to use any compression type accessories from other brands such as Dremel. The box it comes in can be used for storage as it does have a molded plastic insert. Although I would have liked to see a storage case made of nylon or something similar. I also would have liked to see a power slide switch instead of a button press. Other that those and the instruction book being so small this is great for many projects such as Nails, wood working and general use. I wouldn't try to use it for cutting dense materials but for polishing and sanding or general finishing projects this is great for. ... show more

Rotary tool is very handy. Having one without a cord is even better. This little set provides all the accessories I would imagine for the price you can't beat. It is great for light project. As soon as I got this kit, I used it to modify my tablet case so there is enough clearance to install a part. Before you ask, yes I also have a Dremel with a lot more muscle. The accessory tips fit the Dremel as well, which make this kit a even greater deal considering how much these heads would cost seperatelly. Also, this Phalanx tool is so much quieter than a Dremel. It doesn't use active cooling fan so the dust won't fly everywhere. I recommand this for someone not making a living with this but needing to do small fixes here and there. ... show more

It's great to have a cordless rotary tool. It's hard to do fine work when attached to a cord. There are several details on this tool I really like. First, the shape and finish on the exterior are great to handle. I really like the non slip surface. Next, there is a work light! None of my other rotary tools have this, and it makes working on my bicycle much easier. The digital control is perfect--much better than a knob. Just one minor thing to mention--it does not come with a charger, just a cable. Since I have dozens of chargers sitting around, this is not a problem at all, but thought you might want to know. ... show more
