  • It's great. Buy it.
Great lens. I'm using it on a Sony A7 mark II. I bought the native E mount after trying to decide whether to get the EF mount one and adapt it, or just go native. I considered the EF because I thought it would probably have better resale value with all the Canon cameras out there. Since this is the first time I've bought such an off-brand lens (ie: not Tamron, Sigma, Tokina, etc.) I wanted to make sure any issues were the lens itself and not because it was adapted. Especially since adapters can have a problem hitting infinity focus with super wide lenses. It's nice and sharp and a great lens to shoot with. I normally use Canon FD lenses adapted to the A7, so manual focus is not a big deal to me. Neither is manual aperture control. If you just want a mount and forget lens though, with auto everything, this is for sure not the lens for you. If you want a quality lens and aren't afraid to go manual, buy this now. The only issue is the weird distortion it has which shows up in some shots, depending on the subject. You can use the Samyang lens profile for a Canon camera in Adobe Camera Raw to get rid of it though. Kind of a pain, but not needed for most shots. All in all a really good lens. It's much sharper on the edges and corners than my FD17mm f4.0 that I paid a little more for. So what are you waiting for. It's super wide, nice and sharp, and cheap. Go ahead. Buy it. ... show more

  • Great affordable super wide angle (full frame compatible)!
Pros: Very nice image quality. Built as a tank, great materials, very affordable. It amazing the super wide range when taking pictures. I just bought it, so Im beginning to experiment with it. The other night I took some pictures of the space and its amazing (ill share the image with this post). Cons: Heavy, the focusing ring has a very long range and its hard to tell when to stop (although the sony a7 helps you with focusing assistance when the lens is not Sony, andit shows you with color what part of the image is focused), You cannot put any filter on the top of the lens because it has a huge "bulby" cristal, buy that is not a big problem for me. The lens take great pictures but when talking about architecture, it work great because it lets you see a lot, but it generates a distortion , son the linear get a little curve, but dont worry you can correct this in lightroom and it looks amazing. ... show more

  • Great "niche" lens for the money
I bought this lens primarily for night / astro photography. However, I'm basing this review on just popping the lens on my Sony a7s and taking a photo of my house. The picture quality is fairly good. The lens is reasonably sharp at the price point. The lens loses a lot of contrast depending on the relationship of the direction of light. If the light is coming from the side, you'll lose a little bit of contrast. Forget backlit shots. For nigh photography, this won't be a problem unless your dealing with a streetlight, but maybe that can be used for effect also. This lens won't replace your usual walkaround lens. Its a niche lens for sure, whether it be night / astro photography or extreme wide angle. The lens also so show purple color frindging towards the far edges of the frame. It can be noticeable. The build quality is pretty good, somewhat tank like, but you won't mistake this lens for a sony or canon quality. Its a manual lens so you can set the aperture with the aperture rings that feels relatively smooth. The zoom is smooth but it take a huge turn and a half to zoom from one end of the range to the other. It's actually hard to figure out if you are properly focused because , due to the wide angle, its in focus most of the zoom range. Keep in mind this is a budget wide angle, so at the price point, it delivers pretty well. I'm not sure I would use it on a daily basis for something like landscape photography. However for night / astro, this is a great value. I will update this review after I take a few astro photos with it. UPDATE: I've used this lens on several occasions to photograph the milky way at night. Lens works well, I set the lens wide open F2.8 and focus to infinity. For my particular camera, I use a 30 second exposure at ISO3200 and get pretty good shots every time. ... show more

  • Outstanding Astrophotography Lens AND a phenomenal bargain
I shoot the Milky Way a lot and this lens is clear, sharp, and has great color saturation. I edit in Capture One and use the Zeiss 12mm 2.8 lens correction. Otherwise the distortion is very noticeable. It is has a very fat lens hood which does not come off so it is hard to stow in your pocket if you change lenses. But the focus and aperture control rings are smooth and the infinity focus is right on the money. ... show more
