Description

The new Rokinon 24mm Cine Lens is made especially for DSLR video enthusiasts, videographers and cinematographers. It features the same outstanding image quality as the standard Rokinon 24mm F1.4 lens but has the added benefits of de-clicked apertures and follow focus compatibility. De-clicked apertures means that there are no hard clicks when changing apertures and the aperture can be manually set to a very specific number (like f/1.7, f/2.8). The lens has also been constructed so that it can be easily attached to follow focus systems which are widely used by videographers. The Rokinon Cine lenses are the most affordable, high quality lenses in the market today.

The media could not be loaded. (Please excuse my crude test out in the woods, I was mostly experimenting with sound) This lens is awesome! great build quality, great lens image quality, "low" price?! I'm no lens guru, and I don't have much of a budget, so these lenses are perfect. Coming from shooting DSLR to the Black Magic Cinema Camera, I was at least familiar with the functionality of these lenses. First thing I shot with them was a wedding and these were the only lenses I used on my camera. It takes a bit of getting used to working with all primes, but, with a t1.5 aperture, it's worth giving up the zoom since lighting isn't always the best. I would recommend getting some super-wide angle lenses if you are shooting on a crop sensor like the BMCC as it more than doubles the focal length on these cameras (this one equates to about a 50mm). The lenses are nice and heavy, suggesting a good build, and the focus is smooth. I haven't tried them with a follow-focus yet, but, anticipate doing so in the near future. The de-clicked aperture is a nice feature too. It adds a smoothness to changing exposures while shooting that you cannot get with a regular DSLR lens, but, that can also be a problem if you are not paying attention because the aperture ring is easy to bump. That is in no way a complaint, just an observation and an issue I chalk up to user error and must get used to. All in all, I really like these lenses and would recommend them to anyone on a budget. They are what they are, and what they are is an affordable tool to help you tell your story. I'm sure there are gear snobs who would frown on these, but, I feel that gear snobbery comes from a lack of vision and skill. ... show more

Soft at T-1.5 but stellar above T-2.5. Price has little to do with the value of this lens- I'm using a set of non-DS Rokinon's for video while my Canon L series glass stays home. I've even gotten back into using manual focus for stills with the Rokinon's. I'm old school from back when that's all we had- there is definitely something more organic and personal about manual focus and prime lenses. What I find interesting is that it exactly matches color and contrast with my 35mm Rokinon cine I've had for years. Can't say that about any of my L series lens. Updated April1, 2016Got a chance to shoot some stills in Napa Valley with it on a Sony A7Rii and think the lens did extremely well. The more I use the entire line the more I appreciate the quality, especially at this price point. Also picked up the 50 and 85mm's to add to the 24 and 35mm's and the color/contrast match is spot on across the set. My L series lenses are gathering dust at this point. Above 2.8 and the Rokinons are hard to beat let alone for the price. ... show more

    • Almost unusable wide open!

Disappointingly soft wide-open. Stop down two stops and itโ€™s quite good. Build quality is typical Rokinon, which is to say, solid. This is my third Rokinon and the aperture ring on this one is quite stiff compared to my other two. Donโ€™t know why, but hoping it loosens up a bit.

    • My favorite lens

Out of the Rokinon "trinity" (24, 35 and 85 T1.5) this one is my favorite lens for a few reasons. First off it is the widest, which makes it suitable for getting more composition in your picture. Being wider, you get less shaking, so t is the most suited for attempting any kind of handheld work. I have quite a few lenses in a similar focal range, but this one beats them all. For instance, I have a 30mm Sigma DN lens, which is a great compact carry-around lens, it gives my Sony NEX smooth, silent autofocus. It's a 2.8, which is OK, I would probably use this Rokinon at 2.8 for sharpest results also. That lens has a keyhole size piece of glass. This lens has a gigantic piece of front glass. With the Sigma I have to keep a yard between camera and subject. With this Rokinon Cine, I can go in close, almost touching the subject, and the cinematic blur is to die for. Ultra basic review, I even try to leave out big or confusing words. This is more of a "OH MY GAAAWD, I HAVE TO PUT THIS ON MY CAMERA RIGHT THIS SECOND" review..... I posted some pics for you. The filming looks the same, but after the uploading to Amazon failed 3 times, I left you with just the pics... 1.5 and just fine, I am sooooooo sick of "pro" people filling these pages with "At 1.5 I can still see..." No they can't, they are just mad they spent 1800 for similar quality before this... Just amazing... Jaw dropping lens... More amazing words.... Words of ultraness... Make movies, make photos, make people happy! Ask me if you want to know how I got those shots WITHOUT ANY EDITING :) ... show more
