  • Fantastic lens. I've been using this for astrophotography and ...
Fantastic lens. I've been using this for astrophotography and it's yeilded very good results. The lens is heavier than I thought it would be, throwing off the tracking a bit. There is very little vignetting even wide open at f/2, chromatic abberation is minor as well. The focus ring is smooth, hard to nudge, and bracketed at infinity making focus very easy and less annoying than other focus rings. It has a manual aperature ring with no way to control through the camera, which is fine for me. The lens hood it comes with is a little loose and jiggles with no way of locking it in place (that I've discovered). It produces very sharp and amazing images during normal use (outside of AP) with a satisfying amount of bokeh. Due to its field of view (with APSC) it's not ideal for portraits and the like, but does great at smaller objects or distant objects. Overall a great lens for a comparsbly cheap price. ... show more

  • BUY IT, TRUST ME
Wow!!! I just got my lens in the mail today....I have tried out soooo many lenses....and this lens is by far the sharpest. I've tried the L series lenses, USM, Tamron, Sigma etc..etc...all those lenses are great too...but this one is simply sharper than all of them!!! I have read complaints about the focus ring being stiff, I think that is better for accuracy in manual focusing. I have the Rokinon 85mm 1.4 and I wish that focus ring was like this one. Being stiff or tighter plus having a long throw (about 1 1/2 to 2 turns) gives you a wider spectrum so to speak to hit the sweet spot. It is all manual focus and great....AMAZING for portraits (being manual focus it is not preferred to use for action sports i.e the fast movement of subjects) It is sharp at every f stop...it has a sturdy build, the lens hood is removable and overall performance of this lens is amazing!! If you are not comfortable with manual focus you should give it a shot esp if your camera has a manual focus aid or manual focus peaking etc. I have the Sony a7rii and I can focus quicker on a persons eyeball or face quicker than I can with my Canon 85 1.8 and my Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8. There are reasons photographers prefer it over auto focus for portrait photography because it allows full control over where and what is in or out of focus. It also makes you slow down and be more precise rather than hitting the autofocus and taking twice as many images at times. I can go on and on about this and I usually just give ratings don't really write reviews, but I am writing this one so anyone who reads this it is unsure about buying it etc...do it!!! For only around $500...this lens could easily sell for $800 to $1,200 and I would still buy it. I am doing a photo shoot tomorrow and a Birthday shoot on Saturday and I'll update this with the images from those shoots. Sorry for such a long review but I felt it was necessary ... show more

  • The best go to short telephoto lens for Astro photography!
This lens is an outstanding short focal length lens for many uses, but especially an Astro photography. It gives an excellent image with no distortion and stars that are round from edge to edge without any evidence of blurring or coma. The picture I have taken is of the Andromeda galaxy using the Rokinon 135 lens to a small camera and I was thrilled with the results. I recommend it highly! ... show more

  • Must have for astro!
This is my go-to lens for deep-space objects or even just the moon. It's manual focus so you should use the LCD and zoom in to get a good focus before shooting. It's hard to tell in the viewfinder. It might look like you're in focus and find out you wasted 3 hours because none of the pictures are actually in focus. Other than that this lens is excellent. Takes super crisp pictures and is a very fast lens. Definitely recommend to step up your Astro game. ... show more

  • Just Get It
Some of the best photos I've taken in my life have been with this lens. I got it mainly for astrophotography but it's been superb for other applications as well. At $400 it really is a bargain. It's my first telephoto lens and I'm having a ball with it. As for build quality, overall it feels nice, but the lens hood, at least on mine, was wobbly and annoying. l put on a rubber band as a gasket of sorts and that fixed the issue. Also, I'm not bothered by the fact it's a manual focus-only lens. I shoot that way anyway and so it's fine, but it might be off-putting to some people. It's not a "Ferrari" of lenses but performs surprisingly well at this price. Just get it and try. ... show more

  • A true APO for astrophotography
I got this to connect to my ASI1600MM-C for a portable, widefield astrophotography setup and just... WOW! The ASI1600MM-C I'm using has a 21.9mm diagonal, and I selected the Canon mount so that I'm able to have plenty of room for my filters/filter wheel. Note this review is from my use perspective and won't hold perfectly true for a 43mm diagonal sensor. Corner to corner, optical performance is as near flawless wide open as I've ever seen. Coma and astigmatism are non-existent and color correction is perfect within what I can measure - There is absolutely no change to the size of stars when moving between different filters. Vignetting isn't bad at all, though I do understand it is about the only weakness of this lens on a full frame sensor. Build is very good as well - There aren't any flexure in the focus ring or aperture dial, and the plastic used seems to be of a good quality. The supplied lens hood is decent enough as well. It's certainly no Otus but it feels better than most of the plastic kit lenses I've used. In short, if autofocus isn't important to you and you like the 135mm focal range, there is little reason to pass this lens up! ... show more
