Description

VULCAN: IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF ROCNAThe Vulcan anchor is Rocna’s first major design development since the launch of the highly successful and acclaimed Rocna anchor itself. Following on the success of the Rocna, designer Peter Smith was often approached by customers seeking to experience the exceptional holding power and setting performance of a Rocna, but who had difficulties accommodating the roll-bar design on their bow. After years of testing and development, Peter has come up with a design that meets the needs of these customers – the Vulcan.UNIVERSAL APPEALThe Vulcan is carefully designed to offer the greatest possible compatibility across a wider range of vessel bow configurations, particularly powerboats with a bow pulpit. It brings the security and reliability of the Rocna anchor, highly successful and popular with offshore cruisers and adventurers, to a wider range of boaters who we believe desire improved anchoring performance.AN INHERITANCE OF GENUINE PERFORMANCEThe original Rocna has ”set the bar” for the highest performance and consistency of behavior when put to the test both by a worldwide array of users and in numerous independent tests. This performance is the result of careful design and engineering by Peter, who has again put to work all of his knowledge and experience to develop a variation on the theme of the ultimate anchor. The new Vulcan capitalizes on already finely tuned design elements, infusing many of its elder sibling’s proven performance advantages for an extremely quick and reliable set across a range of seabeds combined with rock solid holding power.NEW SOLUTIONS FOR OLD CHALLENGESBreaking from the Rocna design, the Vulcan features a unique combination of shank and fluke geometry – including an innovative roll-palm at the rear of the fluke – which self-rights the anchor on the seabed without the use of a roll-bar. This is assisted by the V-bulb which extends fluke ballast downward to gain maximum leverage and efficiency. This development permits a larger fluke surface area than competing designs which rely on simple dead weight, while the concave fluke is similar in design to the Rocna, directly equating to more holding power and security.FIT FOR ALL VESSELS – AND THEIR OPERATORSThe omission of a roll-bar along with a carefully designed shank profile ensures a snug fit on the bows of a widely expanded range of vessels. Platforms, bowsprits, prods, stays, and other protrusions are easily cleared with no hassle or inconvenience.SMOOTH BOW INTERACTION & COMPATIBILITYThe Vulcan’s shank shape encourages self- launching and self-stowing upon retrieval on the majority of bow rollers, with a liquid smooth action, ensuring ease of use for all operators.STRENGTH FROM SOPHISTICATED DESIGNIn addition to the use of high tensile steel, shank strength is optimized by a unique I+V profile shank design , granting improved resistance to bending courtesy of a computer optimized I-beam geometry. This visually elegant innovation also improves setting performance, with the lower V edge cutting into the seabed and minimizing resistance to a deep and secure burial.IN THE IMAGE OF THE GODSEmbodying the rugged strength and elegant designs of its namesake – the ancient god of fire and metal smithery – the Vulcan is milled from the heritage of the Rocna anchor and the demands of innovation. Formed from high strength steels or stainless steels, and finished with the utmost attention to detail and quality.GUARANTEED FOR LIFELike the Rocna, each Vulcan anchor comes with a Lifetime Warranty against both breakage and bending in addition to manufacturing defects.COMPETITIVELY PRICED WITH WIDE PRODUCT RANGEVulcan anchors are available in 10 sizes from 4 kg (9 lb) – 55 kg (121 lb) to suit vessels from small runabouts to larger launches. Galvanized and stainless steel options are available in all sizes.

  • Worth It. I Best Holding Anchor I've Owned.
Size: 9 kg, 20 lbs
After difficulty getting my previous fluke anchors to hold, I tried many different sizes with limited success. After moving up to the Rocna, it's held over 100 times in various conditions on the lakebed in Chicago. Lake Michigan is challenging throughout the season, especially near other boats in the playpen, and this anchor held well in a variety of situations. Here in Chicago is challenging, because a lot of vegetation grows later in the season because the water is so clear a lot of sunlight reaches the lakebed. The Rocna has done well in sandy, clay, and vegetation. It's also been relatively easy to retrieve. On windy days, it also holds (or resets) well when the boat spins on anchor. I purchased the 9kg anchor for my 27' bowrider, plus six feet of chain, and usually anchor with 40' of line out. Based on how well it's held, I could have tried the smaller 6kg anchor that would be easier to store and handle, but this anchor is so consistently good that I'm reluctant to change. ... show more

  • Digs Into Clay
Size: 4 kg, 9 lbs
I use this anchor with a 21' Sport Nautiuque that I use on a lake that has a hard clay bottom in most areas and it works great. This is the only anchor I have found that will hold in the clay and fit in the small compartment in the bow of my boat. I have seen other boats use 3 anchors at once trying to get something to hold in this lake. Holds in mud too, just comes up messy. I use 8ft of 5/16" chain and it digs in quickly. I have no concerns of dragging this anchor once set. It has the best looking galvanized finish I have ever seen. ... show more

  • Great anchor!!! but get the correct size the first time ..
Size: 20 kg, 44 lbs
Ok .. to start off with I have a 1985 38 ft 22000 lb Chris craft Corinthian. at this time we are on a lake in Georgia .. 2 year ago I purchased the size 15kg 33 lb Vulcan. although It has been fantastic and made anchoring out joyable again, unfortunately it is to small for my boat , and that's My mistake. being on the lake we have currents to worry about or tides, and rarely got stuck in foul weather and it has worked flawless for the past 2 years .. at the end of this year we will be make our way to the gulf coast, so this time I purchased the right size for our boat, the 20kg 44 lb Vulcan to replace it .. I've had great offers to sell the 33lb at the marina but I'm just not comfortable with getting rid of the old hook yet .. when I first got the 33 lb the only modifications that was needed was moving the bottom pulpit roller aft to make the opening through the pulpit larger, l just needed to drilled two new holes and install the roller ..the 44 lb also fit the same modification. This anchor digs in and sets fast! In muddy lake bottom it will bring up a plug of mud up with it.. as you can see from my photo its a perfect fit for my bow pulpit. I haven't found any flaws to the anchor or its galvanized coating after 2 years. But I am in fresh water .. It seems that after time the galvanized coating get smoother and easier to recover the anchor from the bottom.. ... show more

  • An excellent anchor and worth the price..
Size: 9 kg, 20 lbs
Cheapest boat insurance you can buy. I bought the 9kg / 20 pound version for my 22' sailboat going with the old "one size larger" adage. As Rocna says and I found to be true, the size that they say is the right size for your boat; you don't have to go one size larger. Still fine for me since I'm planning on buying a larger boat in a year or two and this will move with me to the bigger boat. Only used it once so far. Afternoon sailing got heavy (ocean) and was getting tossed around too much to go for the harbor entrance as the seas were getting over 4' with an interval of 3 or 4 seconds. So went to the side of the jetty out of the wind as much as possible and far enough from shore and dropped anchor to wait it out. Did four times depth plus 22' of line and it never budged. Waves were probably 3 to 4 feet in my "protected" area. A few hours later the wind and waves cut back a bit and I head to shore. I made the right anchor choice.. ... show more

  • Staying put
Size: 9 kg, 20 lbs
Sailed from VA to Florida over two weeks mostly anchoring out. We encountered some pretty strong May weather and this anchor never budged. Over the days our confidence grew to the point where we had 100% confidence that we would wake up in the same place every time.
