  • A little tight in the toe box but a good quality boot so far
Size: 10.5 Color: Black
I've bought several versions of the typical side-zip duty boots. I usually get them at one of the big-box stores (the one that begins with a Wal and ends with a Mart, if that matters). I usually get about a year out of them before they're too trashed to wear, though some have been a little better or worse. I don't work these boots very hard. I typically wear them to work, which involves walking on polished concrete floors and carpet. I don't sit all day but I'm not on my feet a ton either, so inexpensive boots tend to crack or come apart well before the soles wear out. After the last pair of inexpensive boots I bought gave up the ghost in 4 months, I decided I would buy a better quality pair. My requirements were pretty simple: -Side-zip so that I could slip them on/off easily -Water resistant enough to walk through puddles and snow. I don't need to be able to stand in a stream. -Lining-- I've worn unlined boots before and they're OK, but I prefer a little padding and insulation. I really wanted to try a pair of the Bates side-zip paratrooper boots, but they're not waterproof, are unlined, and cost almost $170 as of this writing. I wasn't in love with the giant lugs on the treads of the Rocky boots, but they checked all the requirements I had so I decided to try them. Right out of the box, the build quality and fit/finish of these boots is significantly better than the less expensive alternatives. One of the best features of this type of boot, in my experience, is that they are comfortable out of the box and break in easily. These are no exception. They felt comfortable from the moment I put them on and have gotten more comfortable as they wear in. The toe box area is a little tight, especially considering I bought a half-size larger than I needed, but not bad. I usually use an aftermarket insole with my boots but I cannot with these due to the tight toe box. Maybe they'll loosen up a bit, but even if they don't they are comfortable enough as-is. They're waterproof and insulated enough for my needs. My feet stay warm and dry when walking through puddles and on cold days, though I haven't hiked through snow with them yet (and probably never will). I did take them on a short hike through the woods and they have plenty of traction. I haven't polished them yet but it looks like the leather will take a nice shine. My only reservation about these boots is the appearance of the giant tread lugs that stick out of the sides of the soles. I have to wonder how much of that is an actual attempt at more traction and how much is a "look at me" tacti-cool design decision. But everything else about these boots has been pretty good and I consider them a very good value at the current price of $99. I'll update once they get a few more miles on them. ... show more

  • Fantastic Tactical Hiking Boots!
Size: 12 Wide Color: Black
After trying a half dozen tactical hiking boots, my Rockies fit great out of the box. Took them for a long hike on sandy rocks and hills and did not slip once. Great ankle support and stability. Best thing about them is I took out the soft insoles and put in my orthodics and they still had a great bounce. Highly Recommend! ... show more

  • My husbands favorite work boots!
Size: 14 Color: Black
These boots are the best boots I have ever bought him. A pair lasts a whole year. That is amazing for what he does. Totally worth it!

  • Good tactical boot.
Size: 13 Wide Color: Black
This is the third or fourth pair of these I've owned. After they're broken in, they're comfortable, durable and hold up well. I am a private Security Officer and spend a lot of time on my feet. I also have congenital flat feet and pronated ankles, so as a result, I am hell on footwear. Most shoes or boots last me about 3-6 months if I am lucky. Because of my birth defect, I tend to walk on my ankles so the inner edges of my shoes wear out quickly and I find that my ankles and feet are in extreme pain by the end of watch. These boots are tough, durable and hold up to some of the most grueling conditions. The last pair I bought has lasted me almost 3 years of daily wear, both on the job and off. I have flippers for feet and thus, it is hard to find shoes that fit comfortably. These do. After three years of constant (and sometimes brutal) wear, I finally had to order a new pair. The price I paid was less than I paid for my last pair and I don't regret it. After so many dollars, pitched down a rat hole, for shoes that last a few months, having a good, comfortable (after ya break 'em in) boots that last for 3 years...that's a blessing and saved me about $300. Good buy and great boots. ... show more

  • Perfect for first responders, love these boots.
Size: 12 Wide Color: Black
As a first responder, I have been through different brands of boots. But I always come back to Rocky's. Theses are the most comfortable and rugged boots I have ever owned. Believe me I am very hard on footwear do to the job i have. At the end of the night I just have to wipe them off with a damp cloth, and maybe a little polish, and they look new again. This is my fifth pair in 5 years, meaning I wear a pair to whole year, with heavy duty use. When it comes to foot wear you get what you pay for. I'm a life long rocky fan. ... show more

  • Excellent boot. I will buy another pair.
Size: 11 Color: Black
The boot fits great. No uncomfortable break-in period. With a thin pair of merino wool socks my feet have been comfortable in 0 degree weather and 60 degree weather here in Alaska. I’m purchasing another pair soon - to rotate the boots so I get longer life out of them.

  • Favorite boots.
Size: 10.5 Color: Black
Have been wearing these for over ten years. Each pair has lasted around two years of heavy abuse. There have been a few design changes over time, all of them for the better. You can literally stand in a deep puddle for hours and no water will get in. I recommend these to everyone looking to get some really good tactical boots for a good price. ... show more

  • Not a bad fit, but an adjustment period
Size: 12 Color: Black
I ordered these because they were waterproof, had the side zip, and brand reputation. If you lace them up to the point that they are tightly fitted, and only use the side zip to slip them on and off, you will eventually rip out the interior heel portion. My pair, which I have had for a few months and worn several times, are still pristine. Take care in how you lace them up and how you use the side zip, and you will have no problems. ... show more
