I have not had a chance to compare this remote control to the original Sony version but for all practical purposes it works great and every button does exactly what I woud expect it to do. These are the functions of the remote I tested with Sony A7RIIIA camera: 1. Shutter: starts autofocus (if camera has it enabled) and then triggers shutter release (similar to camera own shutter release button). 2. [Shutter] 2 sec: camera beeps during 2-second delay and then performs the same as in #1 3. Start/Stop: starts/stops video recording regardless of the camera mode (the same as the video button on the back of the camera - needs to be enabled in the menu) 4. Disp: cycles through display modes 5. Histogram: toggles histogram mode 6. Play: same as the play button on the camera 7. Slideshow: triggers the slideshow mode (cycles over all the images in the camera) 8. Zoom +/- : triggers 1x-4x digital zoom (works with JPEG files only and when digital zoom is enabled) 9. Menu: triggers camera menu 10. Up/Down/Left/Right/Center: work the same way as the camera control wheel buttons 11. Delete: works the same way as the camera delete button 12 Print: does not seem to do anything (likely because I do not have printing setup in the camera) The range in front of the camera is more than 30ft. The media could not be loaded. First thing, the package only contains the remote. No instructions or batteries. Second, make sure to turn on the "IR Remote Ctrl" on your camera. If it doesn't work, try plugging in the battery again. The remote has to face the camera when you click the button, and the camera is able to catch the signal from at least 200 inch/17 ft away (max distance I tried so far!) This remote is better than the base model that I had bought previously. But did not extend the range at which it worked. Or the angle at which it worked.

I was never able to get this remote to work. It seemed so simple. It didn't come with a manual (even though the back of the device tells you to look at the manual for instructions). One star is given because they imprinted the battery type (hint: CR2025) on the battery tray, along with the subtle hint about the positive side orientation. I confirmed that I had a new CR2025 battery. Didn't work, so I tried both directions. I also confirmed the settings on my Sony A6400 camera and that the IR remote setting was on. I've been freelancing for almost 2 years and like a lot of you freelancers I'm a fan of finding tricks or tools (especially inexpensive ones) to help reduce my efforts &/or improve the final product. idk why but I've never thought to get a remote. This was only $8 on Amazon. It eliminates so much tedious bs & for the price you can't beat it. I'm not a fan of the remote app, especially since I use my phone to control my lights and gimbal so this has been a little gem. May want to pick one up if ya haven't. ... show more

Sony A7-III. Works great for what it is. We will be upgrading as we learn more but this was just what we needed for the 10/23 eclipse.

This remote works great, the only wish it would have come with a battery. But anyway I kept pushing the red button to try and take photos, but that button is for video, use the button to the left of the red one.
