Description

Tim Roth stars as serial killer John Christie in this three-part BBC crime drama. The series follows Christie and his estranged wife Ethel (Samantha Morton) as they reacquaint themselves after he is released from prison and move into their new home together at 10 Rillington Place in London. There, the couple befriend their new neighbours, newly-weds Tim and Beryl Evans (Nico Mirallegro and Jodie Comer). When Tim's wife and baby daughter die, he is tried for their murders and sentenced to hang. The trial, in which John Christie is a key prosecution witness, places further strain on his marriage and sets a series of events in motion that ultimately reveal Christie's real role in the killings. • Don't play into the bad reviews.
The show itself runs a bit slow and you never get to see any actual carnage but the cast is wonderful, and the set is perfect. Tim Roth transforms for this part. My favorite of his rolls is Oswaldo Mobray, the energetic hangman. His transformation into the slower, and calculated deviant "Reg" was quite entertaining. He is frustrating and terribly familiar to any other sociopath you may have all of a sudden remember meeting. Samantha Morton's performance was perfect as usual. You can feel her discomfort and frustration through the screen. She is captivating and though she isn't completely innocent you start to really pull for her to get out unscathed. Jodie Comer, what a treat. Beautiful but not in the way that makes you want to dislike her, (lol) only in the way that makes it impossible to take your eyes away from her while she's acting. She lures you into the story, being ,at first, in love and then as an understandably frustrated mother. She is aesthetically perfect for the time. Though they are both beautiful and the acting was perfect they didn't click for me as a couple. She seems older than him for some reason. Nico Mirallegro. He plays victim perfectly. He can pull sympathy from a stone. Even as a less than reputable character he emits boyish innocence showing multiple sides to his coin. Just like when he played John Jo in Common, you root for the character that should have known better and saved themselves. Mr. Mirallegro in period clothing is all to distracting. Dapper and handsome indeed. Over-all is was slow and smooth. There weren't as many thrills as I expected but I suppose that is to be expected for what it is. The actors, however did their absolute best with what they had. Still captivating, still worth the watch. ... show more

  • Acting at its best.
I’m a lover of real crime stories as they are always better than fiction. This film is a remake of the original 10 Rillington Place which was wonderful! Richard Attenborough as Reginald Christie . The new version is much more realistic with Tim Roth and Samantha Morton as Ethel. The midlands British accent required the use of subtitles but I highly recommend this film. ... show more

  • It was okay
Not the best and not the worst. It was good enough to keep my interest for the duration but I don’t need to watch it again. An interesting true crime story set in the UK. They may not have as many grisly murders over there, but they do have some with interesting plot twists.

  • Worth Seeing
Very well done production. The story is very dark. Slow paced, but effective.

  • Riveting
Long time fan of Tim Roth. Great series captured the area. Felt the final episode was rushed and conclusion reached far too quickly given the initial slow build up. Oddly could say the same for the Richard Attenborough version...

  • Creepy good!!
Creepy good. Needed more of Jodie Comer though ...

  • Don't Trust The Neighbor!
No frills, no Hollywood frills. I liked this movie in a different way than most. Very moody. The only thing I didn't like was the young father's naive and ignorant trusting of his neighbor.
