  • Great starter skate/recreational skate
Color: Crimson Size: 8
Update: after breaking in these skates and changing out the stock bearings, I’m giving them 5 stars. They are comfortable, responsive and stylish. I’ve been skating on them for about a month (every other day for an hour or more) and love them. Who cares about a nylon plate? If I want to do park skating, I’ll worry about that then. Initial impressions- I grew up skating for hours on toy quality skates on our sidewalk and occasionally some rentals at the rink, so I am nowhere near a skate snob. When my kids asked to get into skating, I originally decided to go with Impalas for the $100 price point. While my foot technically fit, I knew immediately that they wouldn’t work. The pressure from that boot was painful to the point that I couldn’t wear them for more than ten minutes before I was packing them up and asking for a refund. These were my second choice. A higher price, for sure, but the quality seemed better and sizing was more straightforward. (I typically wear a women’s 9.5 and ordered an 8.) Right out of the box there was a significant difference between these and the Impalas. There was some stiffness in the boot but nothing overly pinched or felt painful. A few adjustments to the wheels and trucks and I was happily rolling away with my daughter. It will require a break-in period to get rid of that initial stiffness but they are comfortable and responsive to movement. One star off because I would have liked a metal plate for the price point. But given that I have no intention of hitting the skate park anytime soon, these are going to be more than enough to get me out at the local rink and hike/bike trail. If quality becomes a concern, I will update over time. ... show more

  • Ugh... why do you do this to me???
The media could not be loaded. short and simple: I love these skates! i love them SOoooo much... that now i kinda want the OTHER colorsssss??? LoL! i havnt skated in like 15 years. i grew up in the 80's where rollerskates and inline skates were popular! had my own pair of skates and blades! eventually fell out of the hobby until 5 years ago i took my nieces and nephews out skating as a "look at the kewl uncle!" day! eventually been eyeballing skates for 5 years now and finally bit the bullet on these! first off: i'm in my late 40's getting back into skating. i'm a mens size 10.5 - some of my shoes are 10, some of my shoes are 11. its safe to say the 11 reidells fit GREAT on these flat feet of mine. right out of the box, the skates needed some minor setup: wheel lugs adjusted (too tight from factory) and the trucks just slightly loosened for my skating style/ability. skating these in the rink are AWEsoMe! the rentals usually shoot me one way or another when im on a single foot, but these were so stable! i was able to just cruise one foot thru turns and what not. the wheels btw are hybrid wheels around 85. definitely noticed its tackiness in the rink so i ordered some sonar rivas (96a?) to try out. the colors btw are gorgeous! makes me really want to accessorize my clothing! makes me also want to buy the other skates now too! they're soooo vibrant and the choice of mixing orange wheels with yellow stop and yellow laces with a blue boot is just fun! so glad i got these rather than the ole boring "mens black skates" as for cons, only one: its pretty stiff - hoping it will break-in over time. the tongue definitely dug into my lower shin a good bit during my test trial - had to loosen the top a ton to skate the rest of the session. other than that, love everything about these skates and am hoping for more adventures with them! maybe rven nab the other colors down the road? :) Update: 1/2024 Happy New Year! after 3 months of ownership, i've a few updates; -Skate is broken in and feels great! -Took off toestops and put on toe plugs -Put on SureGrip toeJammers to protect toebox (i was dragging my toes, causing some damage to the boot). -upgraded wheels 2 times - first was some Sonar Riva's in 96, now sporting Rollerbones art elite 101a's -upgraded wheel bearings to ceramic! I've upped my skating to 2-3 times a week at the local rink. i've traveled with these skates and swapped out the wheels and toe plug to skate outdoors. I'm not planning on doing any jumps or tricks with these, mostly rhythm skating - it's doing a great job and absolutely <3 <3 <3 these skates. I want a second pair specifically for outdoors now. update 3/16/2024: i'm now skating 4-5x a week! learnt a bit of stuff since then, tricks like "the coffin" and heel toe spins, crazy legs, heel or toe manuals. sktaes have been holding up great for 3-4 hr sessions 4-5x a week! boot stiffness easily went away in the first mont of owning this skate. nothing has gone wrong w this skate abd the amount of floor time it sees. looking forward to more skate adventures! update 4/1/2024: i've upgraded the skate's stock powerdyne "thrust" plate thats made of nylon to a powerdyne reactor pro aluminum plate! a local skate guru had mentioned that i was reaching a point where aluminum plates would really help, and it has! my toe manuals and heal flares are much easier to do and the skates are much more responsive in turns! i installed them myself and went with a size 10 plate for a size 11 boot and its been a blast! i still love this boot a ton! 4/22/2024: couldnt resist, got a pair in crimson to use for outdoors! only things i added were some toe jammer covers and swapped the bearings. may swap the cushions to some magic cushions. the rest i'm gonna keep stock just to putz around outside trails and parks. forgot how STIFF these are brand new! my ocean ones are much more soft and broken in. fortunately i know these will break in just nice. wonder when i'll pick up tumeric? lol ... show more

  • Good skates
Color: Ocean Size: 7
I bought these skates for skating around my neighborhood on well maintained asphalt roads. I've skated a few days now and overall I'm happy. I have an older model of Riedell ice skates and find them quite comfortable, which is why I purchased these. Out of the box, these are not comfortable. The leather boot is quite stiff and difficult to lace at first. As the skates wear to your feet, they will gradually adjust. For me, it took about 2-3 hours to be comfortable, but I'm still noticing changes. The stiffness of the boot is helpful while skating. The support helps keep my ankle stiff instead of bending and hurting itself. A stiffer boot would be needed for higher level jumps, but if you're skating at that level, you're probably not reading this. I personally find this safe for the occasional crack in the road or small hop. WEAR LONG SOCKS. At least during the initial period of breaking in. It will wear the skin around your heels and the edges. The tongue of the boot is backed by a rubbery, spongey material. I personally dislike this against my skin, but socks or another barrier prevent this issue. You may want to adjust the trucks and wheels. I thought the wheels were good as-is, but I did loosen the trucks to allow the skates to bend. While I am happy as these are, it is my intention to upgrade eventually. The plate (black matte bit on the bottom) isn't made of the sturdiest material. From some research, flexing it in a jump landing or being on toe stops can eventually cause breakage. I'm not an expert, just an invincible teenager, so do your own research before you get hurt and sue me. The trucks are lightweight nylon. Lightweight is good, nylon is not durable. A lightweight aluminum alloy will allow me to keep the weight but be more sturdy. Because these skates are modular, it is possible to buy parts as needed without a total replacement. Boot, plate, wheels, bearing, etc. ... show more
