  • Amazing lighting set at a great price point
"I was pleasantly surprised when I received the new Pixel K80x RGB LED Panel studio lights. They were packaged very well and arrived on time as expected. On unboxing the units I found them neatly stowed in their ample storage bag, with tripods and power adapters. These lights are solid! Completely metal framed, and great heat dissipation mean the lights should last much longer than other lights constructed of lesser materials. Setup was simple, the app is readily available for Android and iPhone, I tested them with Android. The lights come with a thin diffusor plate (easily removable) installed behind the barn door style shutters, which allow you to easily collimate light. The units have a very clear LCD screen and settings keys with a rotary selection knob with center select. It functions well, however if you are used to really solid feeling selection controls like on a good camera, this may feel a bit looser and plasticy, but it functions perfectly, just not that resolved bump, bump, bump on rotary controls you may be used to. All in all it is still a good control grouping, and it has the app which you will likely be using anyway. They have 21 Special effect modes Ambulance, fire, firetruck, Police and more. I found the special effects to be outstanding for background scene lighting. These instruments can be powered by either AC or dual Sony NP-F style batteries. The power adapter can be strapped to the tripod, and comes with a long cord to AC, I wish the DC end that goes to the instrument was actually a bit longer but that is just my preference. The lights are able to be grouped and controlled as one instrument or individually. There are 48 control channels and 6 groups possible, which means you can add and control quite a few lights at the same time from the same app. Since getting my new Pixel K80's I have tried them with video and still photography and found them to be really good. With RGB mode, Color Gamut, and Color Temp modes as well as special effects mode and the barn door style shutters, you can control almost any aspect of your lighting that you require. I would still recommend the use of a color temperature meter, because in my experience with them the actual temp vs selected temperature is slightly off. They are rated 10K but I only found them to run up to 8650K. On LUX they are correctly rated in range. The lights are very bright and clear and true. Overall, these lights are great for all kinds of indoor photography and video, and at a VERY reasonable price point for such quality instruments! If this is your first set of studio lights, the Pixel K80's would be my #1 pick!" ... show more

  • The best of the cheap RGB panels!
I bought 3 different brands of panels. This was by FAR the best. HSL mode is fairly smooth, and these are WAY brighter than the others I tried. Construction is solid and the case is thin and lightweight. You get the sense that whoever designed this brand actually has worked in photo/video at some point, there are some details that make these more functional than the competition. The case it comes with is great - it's not molded foam like other cases, but it's way bigger than the 2 lights and stands so you have room for power cords / etc, which is great. The stands themselves are fine but any cheap stands I've owned the were assembled similarly (grommeted leg joints and fingers) have all failed within a year, so I expect these won't last. Ask me in a year and I'll update. I do wish they had a remote for when lights are too high to reach without a ladder, especially because they do have a wireless unit-to-unit sync built-in -- which works flawlessly and is super useful. I'd love to see a remote or bluetooth app on future models, but the sync mode is great, super intuitive, and works perfectly. On the downside: The diffusion screens are super flimsy. Other manufacturers use a slide-in solid board and that works a lot better. There are screw holes for the barn doors so you could likely make your own screw-in diffuser. I haven't found a soft box that fits the light yet, though I'm sure one of the generic models out there is close enough. Overall I'm happy with the purchase. I was only going to get one panel but the price for 2 couldn't be beat. If you need an inexpensive RGB panel this size, this is the one to get. ... show more

  • Great for small spaces.
The media could not be loaded. I picked these up to replace a pair of big box-lights I've been using for about a year. There was nothing wrong with them, but they were just huge! I needed something smaller with more features to take my videos to the next level. I definitely think these will do it. Pros: Size - Even the tripod (though made of sturdier metal and thicker bars) takes up less room than my old lights. Without sacrificing brightness, I've added a good amount of walking room in my office. Lighting - Very bright! I love the ability to change temperature as well. I enjoy a bit of warmth in my videos, and I can do that with these. The fact that I can also add in colors is also huge. I really look forward to trying that aspect out in future videos. These are fully customizable. Portability - These use the same batteries as my other lights, so I can take them wherever I need them without worrying about having an outlet nearby. Modes - There are several different novelty modes like lightning, police lights, TV static, etc. Rotating through the color spectrum is pretty cool, too. Cons: Diffuser - Having used these for six days and shooting several videos, I have come up with one con. The diffuser that covers the LED panel is a thin plastic sheet. It attaches by bending them through the slots of the metal panels. I can adjust the metal panels on the side to better direct the lights, so it isn't that big of a deal. The issue I've noticed is that I now some glare on items in the background of my videos. Will have to further adjust settings to get that right. I think I will likely get some nylon material to drape across the front of them. In the attached video, you can see the glare in the background, and the new shadows on the walls after switching to these lights. Since I recorded the video, I have made adjustments and mostly fixed those issues. Very easy to do, but it takes practice. Definitely glad it has such a good instruction booklet. There is a LOT to learn when making this sort of upgrade! Overall, a great pair of lights. A lot less expensive than some of the others, and I know I can trust this brand. I also use their big ring light! ... show more
