Bought this for my 2 1/2 year old grandson. We've used it some and right away it developed a clicking sound from the rear axle area. It still drives and works but has lost some of it's rear end power. That's the reason for three stars on durability. UPDATE - they sent me a new truck free of charge!

Out of the box, this vehicle is a true toy. Looks like a toy with scale features. Operates like toy excavator. Constructed with toy materials. It has a sound unit and flashing lights. With that said, it has a few issues. 1: The hydraulic cylinder on the top of the main arm is flimsy and loose. 2: The arm needs to be slower to allow proper operation for scooping and dumping. 3: The scale is not correct. This is closer to 1/20 scale than 1/14 scale. It would be larger for 1/14 scale. Overall this is an excellent machine for young kids. This combined with the dump truck and some dirt or sand would make a great gift for a child. Thank you. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. This truck is amazing. Ok at first I was like oh its kind of small but this is so powerful it runs on concrete or carpet or grass. I had it going everywhere including up ramps. The remote requires 2 AA batteries that are not included but pop them in and enjoy so much fun. My kids love moving it and dumping "garbage". If you hold down up or down the bed goes up and down until you let go. It is well worth the price just in the power you get. A must have for kids or big kids like myself and my hubby ... show more

This is a great Remote-Control Excavator. Pros: Very well packaged, well made-constructed mtl for the price of the item, worked great straight from the box, and yes - I would recommend charging the two batteries (full power) before use. Can't always rely on using something straight from the box before charging. The machine is awesome digging in loose fill dirt and/or sand - great power too. When digging, gradually excavate the material so that it does not get stuck or hear the clicking noise - it's the same issue if the machine was "real". Speed is good too. Cons: Nothing really so far - But I would not recommend this particular item to younger kids (maybe 10+) - the remote control can be touchy (just like the real excavator) if you take your time, learn the controls you should do well. ... show more
