I was lucky enough our chicken coop door didn't need much modification to get this to fit. Features I absolutely love: 1) The controls are easy to understand. 2) Easily programmable to open and shut when it gets dark or you can set the actual times you want. I chose to set my own times. 3) The door will go back up if it detects resistance in the door (it will make another attempt to shut a few seconds after it goes up. 4) You can set the pressure the door comes down at before it goes up. Very important to me because I have bantams and I didn't want them accidentally getting crushed in the door. 5) Solar or plug in. We have it plugged in with the solar as backup. We had a fuse blow unbeknownst to me and it ran on solar alone for several days which was unbelievable because the charger is not placed in an area of good sunlight. 6) Low profile - the door sits quite flush with the coop. I was worried about drafts during winter. It fits quite snugly against the coop wall There really are no negatives. I have had to check the timer settings a few times because the door didn't open in the morning when we've had power outages but the nice thing is, the door kept the settings I entered into it the first time saved somehow. All I had to do is hit settings and click though everything to get the door back to working - I didn't have to re-enter the times, etc. Totally not the door's fault for not restarting - it was due to power flickering here and the solar charger not being in sunlight for more than a brief amount of time during the day. I've not really used the remote other than once and didn't have a problem with that either. Great little door that saves me extra work and gives me a lot of peace of mind. ... show more

    • Nice door, touchy anti-pinch sensor

The installation went pretty smoothly. The door functionality seems pretty good except the anti-pinch seems to make the door bounce off closed often. I haven't worked through the setting to adjust the sensitivity yet. I see it can be adjusted, but the settings sequences seem a bit tricky to work through with only a few buttons and haven't had time yet to do it. I also wanted to note that the remote control is IR since it didn't seem to specify on the page or any manuals I could find online. I bought a separate wifi IR transmitter (+thermometer) and it instantly learned the up and down button commands so now I can control the door over WiFi as well. I ended up in light sensor mode that does seem to close more successfully than with the buttons/remote, but one overcast evening it closed before the chickens went in and so I need to still adjust the sensitivity settings. Recent snow also covered the light sensor so having the WiFi->IR to open the door was nice to not have to walk out through the snow to open the door. Regardless of some minor quirks I still need to work out, it's a vast improvement over the manual door we had been using twice a day. Glad to have bought it. ... show more

The door is narrower than the regular coop door so it is not possible to attach it to both sides of the coop. Instead, you have to close the coop door enough to drill the screws into it. It is still plenty big to allow my hens passage. The remote is only good up to 16 feet, but it does work well and keeps from me from having to enter the yard to open/close the door. Directions to program the time are minimal and as yet, I haven't been able to use the programming for auto opening/closing. It is good quality and heavy duty. I have been pleased so far with the automatic door. I did have one day that it did not open not sure why but it has been working since that day. The remote does not work unless you are right near the door. I think all in all it is a good door for the price. I would recommend it to anyone.

This is the second one of these that I have had. This one has been trouble since it was installed a few months ago. I just changed the batteries for the 3rd time in only a few months. It gets enough sun, is not directly in the weather but it still won't allow me to do a manual close. Sometimes, after not working, I go down to the pen and it's opened. All by itself. My husband is a very thorough installer, so this and the coop area have been inspected for proper installation. We have had it now for a month, and it doesn’t open anymore. The track isn’t staying level on one side. I contacted Amazon and the company to talk about warranty and possible replacement. It does still close at night, just won’t open in the morning. Amazon got back to me but the company hasn’t responded to TWO direct messages. If every one of these wasn’t made in China, I’d just look for American-made. ... show more

After dealing with a a faulty door that caused quite a bit of scare with what could've happened we decided to purchase a new door. We did a bunch of research and were up in the air about which door to buy that we can trust to take care of our chickens. We needed up choosing this one for multiple reasons. First is being the cost, it's very reasonable for all the functions it has The Solar is the big one for us. We did not want to have to worry about replacing batteries constantly as well as worrying about the door not closing because it died. 2nd was the design. We were able to conserve space with the roll up door as opposed to a solid door that would take up significantly more space above the door when it's open. The ant pinch feature was a must because we did not want to have to worry about anyone getting their leg stuck outside all night as well as them being stuck in the door all night. This door is working well so far. I wish the cord going to the solar panel was longer! I had to put it in a place that I didn’t intend because of it. Also, it NEEDS a paper template to help you figure out the fit. Going by the picture in the booklet was terrible! Next time, I would only buy a solar door that had a template as a guide! ... show more
