  • Old Testament
Size: 11 Color: Oro Legacy
Ok, let's begin by stating what these are NOT. These are NOT comfortable, stand on your feet all day, hard construction work boots. There are hundreds of other options I would encourage you to try if you are looking for a true, modern work boot. Modern soles will last longer. Modern insoles will be more comfortable. Steel toes will protect you. Certain soles will be rated for electrical safety, etc. These are NOT those boots. So what are they? They are old school. They are what your grandfather would have bought in the downtown department store in the 50's. If they were a Biblical verse, they would be Old Testament. They are leather construction, leather lined toe, leather insole boots with an outer sole that can be replaced when needed. This is a hard, tough boot that WILL take time to mold to your foot. Buy something snug with room in the toes and let them destroy your feet for a short while. It will pay off. Mine were a tad snug, but already feel pretty good out of the box and get better each day. I typically wear an 11.5 to 12 in most shoes. I saw these ran large and went with an 11. Pretty perfect fit for me. If you know what you want and have time to try 2 or 3 pairs on, that's fine. If you are unsure and want it done right, find a good local retailer and purchase them there. You are paying retail for their expertise and assistance. Also, these are made in the USA and you are paying a premium for that. I've also seen a few reviews where people complain about the sole wearing out too fast. That doesn't surprise me at all. They're pretty soft on the edges and don't look like they would hold up under a lot of abrasive surfaces under your feet. I plan on swapping these out as soon as I wear them down. You could go with a harder wearing sole at that point and have boots that will last years until the next sole is needed. The uppers alone are worth the price for the quality of construction. They are made from a beautiful leather with a nice hand. They can be cleaned and reconditioned over the years. This is not a leather sneaker styled like a boot and then farmed out to the lowest bidder. This is an old school, handmade, hard wearing leather upper that will definitely last longer than the stock soles and most likely outlast the replacement soles as well. Also, some people got very old boots, possibly even factory seconds. Different sellers have different items. I got very lucky with a good price on boots that were only a couple of months old. If you get a pair that are years old, or have some issues, well that's what prime returns are for. ... show more

  • I had never felt shoes of such quality
I'm going to do this review in stages. (Jan 24 2019) Initially these are my first impressions: 1. The packaging is extremely efficient in terms of consumption of cardboard; being a pair of work boots, the box is rather small. Inside the box come the shoes, some extra laces and a sheet of paper that separates the shoes so they do not damage each other. 2. The shoes are beautiful; the color of the model 8883 is different from everything I had seen before. The leather of the boot is soft in the part that surrounds the ankle and much more rigid in the part from the heel to the fingers. The sole is sturdy, white, the seams are perfectly finished. 3. When using them, until now for two days only, the sensation of discomfort is only perceptible in the part of the boot around the ankle and I suppose that it will disappear as the leather softens and my sensitivity in that part of the body disappear. 4. The shoes are medium weight, there is nothing bulky that adds unnecessary weight. 5. The truth is that I had never felt shoes of such quality, they worth every penny. In a couple of weeks or months I will update this review with new comments. ... show more

  • Awesome boots AFTER they are broke-in
Size: 8.5 Color: Charcoal Rough and Tough
Here is the scoop on these Red Wings. First they are 100% Legit, they are not knockoffs. I was worried myself because I didn't notice the logo on the side, after doing some research I discovered that Red Wings do not imprint their logo on the side of some of the newer makes. Size wise I read a bunch of mixed information. I ordered 1 full size down originally but I had to send them back for only a 1/2 size down. So make sure you order 1/2 size smaller than your normal sneaker size. To give you more context, I wear size 9 in Nike tennis shoes, so 8.5 Red Wings worked perfect. Okay here is the most important part, the break-in period (I can only speak to the "Charcoal Rough and Tough" model I purchased)... the leather on these boots is quality thick leather. It is no joke and breaking them in is no joke either! I'm used to wearing soft leather Frye and Kenneth Cole boots that aren't necessarily built for work... so breaking in these Red Wings was hell, I'm not going to lie to anyone. Every forum you read online you will discover this is almost a given with Red Wings, you earn them. For me the piping at the top of the boot was digging into my ankle bad until they finally broke-in. Here are a couple tips to help others. If you have problems with the piping digging into your ankle like I did, then for the first two weeks leave the top two eyelets of the boot unlaced. Once they're broke-in you can lace them all the way up with no issues at all. This is a big recommendation here. I used "Sofsole Leather Lube" (you can find it here on Amazon) on my boots to soften the leather. This helped the most, and also add protection to the boots in the process. NOTE: It did darken the leather though, the gray turned almost black (which is what I kinda wanted anyways), I attached a picture of them after I lubed them. Just massage the lube into the boots really well and let them sit over night, the next day wipe off any excess and brush them up. It took me wearing them as my main boot for about 2-3 weeks to break them in. BUT, once they're broke-in you have the best boot you could ever want... they take the shape of your foot and feel great. Hope this helps others. ... show more
