  • A fine upgrade that beats the mpk mini 3
Size: MPK Mini Plus Style: MPK Mini Only
The media could not be loaded. I can fit both hands on this 37 keyed midi controller that I've been using with Ableton Live . The stop and play, rewind ,etc.buttons make it easy to record with. The knobs go all the way around. The pads feel good ,they have 2 banks and several functions and the action on the keys is just right. There's a sequencer on there and it's capable of hooking up to synthesizers and drum machines with 5 pin in/out/USB/3.55mm but I haven't got that far with her yet but I will. The downside is there's not much literature on the mpk plus so good luck with that ,just a smattering of YouTube videos and some Reddit articles. Overall, I got it at a fair price and it's fun to play even though I haven't figured the whole thing out yet . I bought it to replace my Akai mpk mini 3 and I'm glad I got the mpk plus instead. I like it much better . It's more diverse and you can do more with it in a lot of different ways and it's still compact enough that it won't take up much room in your studio. Plus it's compatible with pretty much every DAW out there. So,if I were you and I needed a keyboard controller then I'd get this one because that's what I did. 😁 ... show more

  • Excellent keyboard!
Size: MPK Mini Style: MPK Mini Only
I bought this Akai keyboard as just a hobbyist to make some music again. The build quality is solid, and feels premium for a consumer keyboard. The keys are responsive and very accurate. I’m primarily using this with GarageBand, but it works with almost any DAW out there- plus you can download MPC beats for free from Akai. Personally, I was a bit frustrated trying to get started with MPC Beats, so I switched back to GarageBand. I’ve used this on my Mac and iPad with no issues whatsoever and every synth app works perfectly with it. Pros: - Good value - Excellent for beginners and casual musicians - Joystick is a great tool for pitch and mod Cons: - Should have USB C connector instead of old style USB A - User manual could be better and more suited to beginners. I had to search online for tutorials on basic functions. Verdict: Compared to a $50 midi usb keyboard I had before, this Akai Mini was a solid upgrade for my needs. I’ve been very happy overall, and actually enjoy making music again, and improving my skills. ... show more

  • Nice
Size: MPK Mini Plus Style: MPK Mini Only
I love this little keyboard. Keys are quiet and not clicky, unlike the MPC 61 workstation. (If anyone from the Akai is reading this, please fix the keys on your MPC 61 workstation, they are clicky. Make them nice and soft like you made the keys on the MPK series). I only have a few nitpicks, which is why I gave it four stars: It doesn’t have an on/off switch. This is mystifying to me. We are in the age of energy conservation. It’s not environmentally responsible to not have an on/off switch, and it’s inconvenient to have to unplug it. And by the way, if you unplug it, you will lose any custom settings you made with the editor and have to reload them again. Real big PITA. The other problem with not having an on/off switch is that if you leave it on all the time you are depleting the life of it. Not good. Not everyone likes having their pads lit up all the time. You shouldn’t have to go into the editor to turn the pad lighting off. Give us a little switch to turn the pads lights on or off. I actually don’t like a bunch of lights in my studio. I had to put electrical tape over the lights on my Yamaha HS7 monitors bc they were so bright :/ Enough with the lights already. We are running studios, not discos. Last but not least, for some reason a K decided to not make the “SEQ“ button assignable via midi. This really sucks. We could have used it to assign “loop“ or some other midi function for a DW‘s, but we can’t because a K decided it shouldn’t be assignable. at least give us a loop button for our DAWs. auto quantize button would be nice also. as it stands, this unit is not a great DAW controller, but with a few adjustments it could be. Oh wait, I do have one more nit. getting the software editor is a real PITA. You have to register, then go on their site, get codes, and do all this crazy stuff just to get the editor. How about just a simple download link like the old days? This registration and password stuff is getting out of control. Every studio engineer I talk to is sick of it. Let me end on a good note. The software that comes with the MPK is absolutely awesome. MPC beats is a killer DA W, and the MPC library that comes with it is nothing short of stellar. In fact I could make a case that those samples are worth every bit as much as this keyboard so if you intend to use the samples, you’re basically getting a keyboard free. Respect! ... show more

  • Worth the wait!
Size: MPK Mini Plus Style: MPK Mini Only
I have been waiting months for this to come out! I rarely buy gear from amazon because it doesn't always work out the way it should but they were the first to have them. I love this controller. The keys are much nicer then the older smaller MPK mini's and the extra knobs and controls are a game changer. I have always had my pads and keys on a separate controller but I find my workflow with the MPK Mini Plus not only improved, it saved a lot of space on my desktop. I've already bought a second one for my backpack. The one disappointment is the sequencer. It's burred deep in the menu and is not user friendly. To get advanced sequencing out of the unit is a long antiquated process that stifles creativity. Akai needs to improve this with a firmware update in the future, the sequencer is unusable in it's current from. That all said this is still a 5 start piece of gear IMHO. I have use the heck out of mine and it's improved my workflow a lot. ... show more

Size: MPK Mini Plus Style: MPK Mini Only
Got lots of extra downloads with this midi that are really useful. It fits really well on my desk without taking too much room and the colors are fun to customize. Im a beginner and this has been a good midi for me because its not too complex and full if knobs and sliders to figure out, but it still has a lot of capabilities ... show more
