  • REBORN is the best coffee
Flavor Name: La Palmera, Colombia
REBORN is the best, highest quality coffee I’ve ever had and reasonably priced for what you’re getting.

  • Great Coffee, but the price . . .
Flavor Name: Huehuetenango, Guatemala
The is really good coffee and has a wonderful and mild flavor profile. If I ranked this by flavor alone I would have to put this at around third or fourth place in my line-up. If I didn’t live within 20 miles of 3 coffee roasters, and had to buy coffee that was trucked half way across the nation, this would likely rank first or second in flavor quality. However the price of this coffee at roughly $32/lb is a bit ridiculous and kicks it out of my top 15. One of my local roasters also has a product made with beans from the same region which is similar but this Reborn brand seems to be milder as I don’t notice the usual tongue tingle I generally get with light and medium roast coffees. So apparently they are doing something extra with their beans to reduce the acidity which also gives it a milder yet sweet flavor. This is a great coffee to drink black or with a splash of heavy cream (which is my preferred addition) but hardly needs sugar at all unless you’re making it heavy on the coffee side of your brew ratio. My method is either French press (when I have the time) or reusable K-cup pods when I’m pressed for time (which is generally the case). My ratios are generally between 0.957 and 1.0 grams of coffee per ounce of water. This is roughly equivalent to brewing a 12 ounce cup of coffee with a prepackaged K-cup pod. Darker roasts tend to be on the lower end of the ration while light roasts get bumped up to the higher end of the ration of 1:1 g/oz. I don’t like bitter coffee and notice it tends to get bitter when I exceed these ratios and some roasters want us to use 2 or 3 times the amount of coffee per brew which gets beyond the level of being drinkable without the need for a ton of sugar and 3 oz of cream just to cut the bitterness. Brew it with the right ratio and you may find that you don’t need all those flavored creamers and sweeteners to make it palatable. And you may actually discover the true essence of the beans. Anyway, as stated, this is a really good roast with an excellent flavor profile that is mild and sweet all its own. If they bring the price down to a reasonable level, like half the current cost, then I would add this brand to my rotation, but for now its not in the budget for me. But as long as I can get premium quality coffee from my local roasters for more than half the cost of this brand, I’m afraid I have to pass on this one. However, if one has the inclination to splurge occasionally, this one may be worth it to try at least once. ... show more

  • Very expensive, but unbelievably good coffee!
Flavor Name: Huehuetenango, Guatemala
Although I’m writing this, I know I can’t actually describe how great this coffee is. So my tl;dr is:if you’re ready to splurge, get this, take a minute to enjoy the aroma at every step, and experience one of the best cups of coffee you’ve ever tried. Long version: My husband and friends call me a coffee snob. I disagree—it’s not snobbery to enjoy a good cup of coffee and reject coffee I don’t like! It’s like saying someone is a book snob for choosing a novel over a children’s picture book. That said, it is true that I feel like an excellent cup of coffee is an experience that starts long before I take a sip. If I make it myself, it begins the moment I smell the beans! And with this coffee, the aroma hit me the minute I opened the box. Grinding the coffee released sweet cherry notes and I swear I got a hint of dark chocolate. My first cup was a manual pour over, and out of each preparation method I used with this coffee, this one was the best, so I feel like I need to go into more detail in case you want to give it a shot. I ground 30 grams (just over an ounce) of coffee, put it into my pour over filter, and heated 500 grams (18 ounces) of water to just under 200°. If you’re following my method, once that’s ready, start your brew by adding about 60g small of brewing water to your ground coffee—just enough to make all of the grounds wet. Once you do that, stop for about 30 seconds to enjoy the scent wafting up to your nose. Even if you have no sense of smell, stop anyway. You’re waiting for the grounds to swell and bloom as the CO2 from the roasting process is released. Don’t skip this short wait—the resulting brew will be extracted from all of your grounds and not just the edges of each particle. Next, begin your pour. Starting from the center and spiraling out to the edge and back in, pour water in slow, even, circles. The water stream should be thin ,no wider than your pinky, I’d say. Once all the grounds are covered, pour water over them as the coffee is extracted at whatever rate you need to so that they stay saturated and are exposed to a minimal amount of air during the process. For me, the best flavor happened when I poured for 3 minutes. Experiment to find your sweet spot! The beans I got were very fresh, although I think I wish the package had been vacuum sealed. That’s really the only thing even vaguely negative that I have to say. I liked this so much that despite the price, I will be buying other varieties of Reborn coffee. I that first cup was honestly one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot to compare it with! ... show more

  • Tasty coffee
Flavor Name: Abana Estate, Ethiopia
Reborn Coffee Specialty Coffee Beans - Ethiopia Abana Estate, Sulladjah - Medium Roast - Single Origin - Freshly Roasted Coffee Beans I have never had Ethiopian coffee before. So, I was not sure what to expect. The coffee seemed to be fresh, but it was a little worrisome that the bag is labeled with a use by date, but does not include a roasting date. The label says it is good for roughly 6 months from the time I ordered it. Most coffee people spending that much on a bag of coffee would be concerned about the lack of a roasting date. I'm not much of an aficionado, that I could probably not tell the difference. But, I am spoiled because I get coffee delivered to my house on the day it was roasted. I try to use my coffee within one month of roasting. And, I'm sure others do too. I am willing to pay extra for good coffee. But, I will not pay extra if there is not at least roasting date on the bag. ... show more
