Description

We offer raw green unroasted coffee beans for the home roaster who enjoys roasting their own coffee beans at home. Unroasted coffee beans must be roasted prior to use for brewing. Roasting coffee can be a very simple process, or it can be a real work of art created by an experienced artisan. The roasting process has always been a mysterious kind of thing considered to be a closely guarded process of proprietary roasting profiles kept only for the privileged artisans “in the know” with sophisticated commercial roasting equipment. In recent years this has changed substantially with the new wave of home coffee roasters trying their hand at the roasting craft. They have learned many of the tricks of time and temperature modulating their own flavor profiles creating their own works of art in the cup. Coffee is a universal drink loved by many people, some for-taste others seeking the caffeine but when you roast it at home it takes on a whole new appeal. Your coffee quest becomes an intensely personal adventure where you are in control of many aspects of taste results. Roasting is truly a rewarding experience where the more experience you get the better your coffee tastes. Basically, you heat the beans to around 400F to 450F in about 10-15 minutes time period. Once the beans reach your desired doneness or “brown” simply remove them from the heat and cool to room temperature as quickly as possible. After this you can use them to brew coffee! When you buy our beans, you can rest assured that you are getting fresh current crop beans from some of the best coffee plantations in the world. We believe that the best taste comes from premium high-altitude growing regions. We source our beans with great care, ensuring that the farmers are paid fairly for their time and product. When you buy our beans, you are supporting the communities in which beans were grown ensuring equity for all. Invest in our premium high-quality beans, taking your roasting experience to the next level!

  • Really great
Flavor Name: Nutty chocolate cocoa creamy Size: 40 Ounce (Pack of 2)
I got this 5 pound bag of Brazilian ("Nutty chocolate cocoa creamy") coffee beans because I got a FreshRoast SR540 a couple of months ago and it came with several 1lb bags of coffee. The problem there is that I couldn't use the same beans to experiment with different roasts and setups, so I bought a 5lb bag of beans here. That really, really helped me get my roasting figured out and helped me to learn that the thing I was missing was the "set-up" so that the coffee wasn't really sour. Turns out that 2-3 days of letting the coffee sit and breathe (I'm using mylar bags I found on Amazon for setup, then I can just seal them up for storage). I'm doing this at a medium roast (fan 9, heat 5 for 6 minutes, fan 7, heat 5 for 6 minutes in the SR540) and then a 2- to 3-day setup. It smells amazing when ground and tastes wonderful in the cup. I'm not really experienced enough to go into flavor notes, but it's tasty and a bit sweet and I'm very happy with the results. A 2 day setup leaves it just a little tart, a 3 day setup removes the last of the tart and it's just a very, very good cup of coffee. I've ordered the 12.5lb bag of the same beans (I think) and another 5 pound bag of some Guatemalan to try. Coffee roasting is easy and a lot of fun. For the rest of the details of how I make it I'm using a hot water dispenser I got on Amazon (Northmas D20) on the highest temperature at 8oz with an Aeropress and following the manufacturer's instructions except for using a bit more coffee grounds (at the fine end of "drip" on my Shardor burr grinder I, of course, also got on Amazon) and filling the hot water up to the 2 mark instead of the 1. I'm using both a metal mesh filter and a paper filter. Best cup of coffee ever. ... show more

  • Robusta
Flavor Name: Nutty chocolate cocoa creamy Size: 200 Ounce (Pack of 1)
It's good ... I like it. Roasted up dark pretty much the same as any. Good as a blend to boost caffeine. Adds a brighter element to taste. Can SB manage getting Excelsa? I'd like to try that one too.

  • Home Roasted Light to Medium
Flavor Name: Hazelnut, Caramel, Chocolate, Brow... Size: 200 Ounce (Pack of 1)
Great Brazilian Peaberry. Very Delicate to Roast, care must be taken to watch the drum temperature. Roasting 500 GM. batches to just approach 225 C. results for me a light to medium roast. I turn down the heat at 150 C. ( to allow the beans to roast themselves exothermically. The roast can get away from you if you like light to medium roasts. Good value @ $0.40/ounce. I use a quartz drum roaster I purchased from Amazon made in China. It has paid for itself after roasting the 12.5 lbs. Update: Roads Roast possibly failed to ship 2nd order waited over 11 days. USPS tracking stated they were waiting for shipper to deliver the item to them. What happened Roads Roast ?? Update: Roads Roast tracking on their end stated USPS shipment confirmed USPS lost item in transit. RR very responsive I will order again. The coffee is great, the USPS needs help ... show more

  • The taste I have been looking for.
Flavor Name: High Caffeine Peanut Leather Baker... Size: 80 Ounce (Pack of 1)
The unroasted beans are more of a challenge than I thought, but after some practice batches, I found it quite easy to get an excellent roast. Robusta Coffee is a welcome upgrade in my morning Cuppa Joe. The name Robusta fits the flavor, and now I know why so many Europeans have a problem with American coffee. In the US, we get wrapped up on the term 100%, so all our coffees are 100% Arabica. I am a Robusta drinker now. I may try a blend later, but for now, I will enjoy the flavor that I have missed since returning to the States from Germany oh so many years ago. ... show more

  • Fantastic! What's more to say?
Flavor Name: Nutty chocolate cocoa creamy Size: 200 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I am ordering my second 12.5LB bag of these beans. I have tried at least 6 other types of beans from other suppliers, and this is the first time I am going back again. I'll echo what everyone else has said about the quality in consistence (no stones, consistent roasting) and the amazing mild flavor. I have won several fans at work by bringing in coffee made from these beans. I may branch out to something else hear & there, but expect I will keep purchasing these beans for a long time. :) ... show more

  • No Impressed with the Robusta Bean
Flavor Name: Nutty chocolate cocoa creamy Size: 40 Ounce (Pack of 2)
The media could not be loaded. Usually very good quality from this Seller. However, the Robusta was not impressive. The beans varied in size, several broken beans, appeared to be a mixed batch of old stale beans and newer beans. Difficult to get an even roast per batch. I'll continue to buy from Smoken Beans regardless. They still have many other great beans. ... show more
