  • What I always wanted in a mechanical keyboard
The title basically sums it up. This is not my first razer product nor my first razer keyboard/keypad This is my 4th. I bought this one to replace my 5 year old black widow croma (green switch) after it started having issues with the E, O and space key. That and the loud clicking became to much to handle as my seating changed. Sitting net to a wall and hearing the loud clicking sounds starting to eat away at my brain. Now here I am with the Black widow Elite (orange switch) and this is the typing experience I have always wanted in a keyboard not just mechanical. Starting off with the sound the orange switchs are quite but not silent there is still the sound of the keyboard or them bottoming out but the sound is not loud what so ever more like the sound of a normal keyboard. The next major this is the feel of the keys as you type. I have to say for me its like well I cant describe the feeling like almost pressing on a soft pillow in water....there is a light resistance but it feels almost natural. The build quality on this is really nice as well far better then what it was on the old Croma I had. The keys feel more sturdy and the keyboard is heavy enough that it wont move unintendedly. The little raising foot pads also come in 2 different levels to help you pick the perfect size for you to use with honestly not much of a noticeable difference to me. The included wrist rest seemed like something I wasn't going to use but im glad I put it on as it is much nicer then my wrist hanging or placed on my cold desk. The size of the keyboard is what really got me. It is enough that sitting on my desk I noticed I had about another inch or so of space to move my mouse around without it slamming into the keyboard as I had grown accustom to. Especially when you consider there is dedicated media controls and a built in USB port on the left side something I never new I wanted. But this does lead to a slight issue. Due to the inclusion of a usb port and headphone jack the cable is far larger then I expected and forced me to have to push the cord to the left as it would not work the way I normaly place it. However this has lead to an issue with the cable management as with all razer ones I have had it sucks. The cable just wont stay in the slot for more then a second and forget it if you have the legs up it just slips out like it wasn't even put in there. All and all the little things don't take away from the greater expectance of typing on this keyboard. I have fallen in love with the feel, sound, and responsiveness of the orange switchs and I will be sticking to these in the future as I think about changing my other keyboards to these amazing switchs. Definitely glad I pick this up. ... show more

  • luxurious keyboard
This keyboard was the best keyboard I've ever had. It looks amazing, feels great to type on, extremely customizable, even has a magnetic wrist cushion that pulls into place. Had it for a solid 3 years and broke it by spilling on it. Kind of sucks that it's fragile as I've spilled before on previous keyboards and they worked fine. Not faulting it because it's something I did to it. The part that I'd like to upgrade on future keyboards. The software that comes with the keyboard, it would be great if I didn't have to use it to keep my customizations to the lights. A set it and keep it type of system would be great. When I customize the colors to what I wanted, it would reset to default color cycling when the software was closed. It would come back after the software was running again. Here's why I don't want to rely on the software: It slows down my computer. My processor is pretty great, but I noticed a lag when typing on a website sometimes. Wasn't sure what the issue was so I opened task manager. Turns out the keyboard software was taking up FIFTEEN percent of my cpu. Now this wasn't happening all the time - it could be an update or something. But that's annoying. I'd genuinely like to not have it running at all but the default color cycling is distracting so I kept the software running. Again most of the time it wasn't an issue but there were enough times for it to be annoying. ... show more

  • Using it for Work not Gaming and Im in LOVE
I have eyed this keyboard for a long while as I needed to replace my old one but I had to wait to be able to get it. I am SO HAPPY I finally purchased it. This has got to be one of the best work purchases I've made for my work computer system. I am a 3D Graphic Artist and also do YouTube Tutorials on the products I make and so as part of that I use a lot of different software and I also tend to work a lot at nights (I work from home) The Good: The glow on the keys is bright and easy to see (I actually can tone the colors back a lot and still see them very clearly) The keys themselves are super responsive so typing is even faster for me than it was before on my old keyboard They are higher profiled than my previous keyboard so it is far more obvious what Ive hit and how many times. The Bad: One thing I am not "Crazy" about is the magnetized wrist rest. Definitely not a deal breaker but I do tend to pull the keyboard sort of off my keyboard shelf and angled a bit into my lap and so it tends to come loose on me. Now I could take it off but I have managed to make it work out for me. That said, I had hoped that maybe it was like a larger sort of piece that the keyboard itself laid or clipped into so the weight of the keyboard etc would hold it in place better but could still be detached. Not a huge deal and its easy to just pop it back on if it does sort of break free magnetically but I was a little bummed. It would also be nice to maybe have more videos that step you through the programming. I spent a fair while looking things up on YouTube as the videos on the site really don't take you from beginning to end and I feel like seeing it visually would be easier than a step by step pdf. I did figure it out though but it took me a bit of time LOL Now to end with The AWESOME I have a lot of different software I use daily. All the different apps use very different shortcuts and, while I could reprogram the shortcuts, since I do YouTube Tutorials that tends to not be ideal and add confusion for those watching the Tutorials. This 100% FIXES that. I went app by app and color coded the shortcut keys so if a key used say CTRL plus a letter I colored the CTRL key and all keys using it one color. The Shift and all keys that need that another. And then used the RT Side CTRL Shift together as one color with the keys that need both. It makes it SO EASY to visually know what keys you need for which app. All I have to do is open that application and the keyboard switches to the color scheme for that app and boom there are all the keys I need to know. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. It is really easy when going between apps to get muscle memory confusion and need to get reminded which keys you are going to need. I love this so much. It has all ready saved me a bunch of time and frustration clicking the wrong keys for the wrong app. All in all this is an excellent purchase for me even though I am not using it as was initially intended. It is so easy to make custom color schemes per button that really the sky is the limit as far as how you can use it to help organize yourself. I even made myself a key to further assist me. Its really wonderful. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. ... show more
