Description

Rain-X Windshield Repair Kit helps you minimize the appearance and stop the spread of chips and cracks in your windshield. It removes air from the break, fills it with durable resin and makes it even stronger than before. For best results, repairs should be made as soon as possible after the damage occurs and before the break is contaminated by dirt or water. In addition, avoid the use of glass treatments after the crack has formed and prior to repair. However, glass treatments can be applied one (1) week after repair. The kit works best on round damage not more than one inch in diameter, and cracks not longer than 12 inches. It will not repair damage to more than one layer of glass.

  • Works better than the shop repair I had done
Style: Pack of 1 Color: Clear
Took my car to a lube shop that said they did windscreen repair too. Had a chip in the middle of my view. Show pulled the car out and the chip looked exactly the same. When I said I expected the repair to hide the chip they said "oh, no. No repair will do that. All we are doing is putting repair resin in to stop the chip from spreading" Useless! And expensive! I could have bought multiple kits for the cost of that "repair"! Got another chip in my windscreen and so ordered this kit. Wiped the glass, used the supplied razor to ensure not loose chipped glass on the area. Aligned the base which has four suction cups so that the opening hole in the center was directly over the center of the chip. Had to hop in and out of the car to see this as too far over the fender to see from the outside so I looked from the inside. I then removed the plunger screw in from the center of the screw in post piece and installed it in the base. I tightened it down so it was firm against the windscreen, but not cranked down. I put the required number of drops down the inside of the post piece and then held the post from twisting while I screwed in the center plunger piece. I don't know why they have flats on these pieces like you need to use wrenches. For the pressure you put on, the hold of the suction cups etc. I don't think you need wrenches. I did the whole repair just by hand. So, center screwed in almost all the way, let it sit the required minutes (in the instructions) and then removed the center plunger piece and screwed it back in. This lets air come out that might have been displaced out of the chip/crack. Let it sit as required and then removed everything. Did the drop on the top of the chip and put on the plastic sheet. Pulled out of the garage and let sit in the sun to cure. Pull off the plastic sheet and gently scrape the excess off with the razor. My chip had two star fingers that came off of it. After repair these are gone. The chip is practically invisible and WORLDS better than that "professional" repair. I'll never go to one of those shops again! This kit is so simple to use. Takes just a few minutes to do and get great results! If I can do it, YOU can do it! Don't hesitate! ... show more

  • worked good after using diamond burr
Style: Pack of 1 Color: Clear
first attempt did not work. the resin did not go into the crack. using diamond burr, I made the hole on the bulls eye, and applied the resin using the applicator, and it did work. if it suggested diamond burr usage for better result on the instruction, would have been better.

  • Perfect for First-time DIY repair
Style: Pack of 1 Color: Clear
Great kit for the price. Comes with what you need for average household, Worked great on two simple chips in one afternoon, on two different vehicles that both got chipped in the last week. I'm in the mountain west USA, and these are the kind of chip I like to forget about and then months later (after a winter of freeze-thaw cycles) realize there's a giant crack spreading across my windshield. This is definitely the way to go. $12 on this kit and under 30 minutes of my time. Vs driving it to a repair shop for $35-$60 (for one simple chip repair) and waiting 30-45 minutes. SKILL REQUIRED - I consider myself somewhat handy with tools and machines, but by no means do I have a workshop or anything. I know which way to turn a wrench, how to clean a p-trap under my sink, and I can follow good instructions. I found this very easy to do; much easier than I expected. INSTRUCTION QUALITY - Written in clear English. I like to laugh at the imperfect (Chinese?) translations of most products, but didn't notice any. EASY to read. I read it all the way through before starting, then during install only had to glance at the handy highlighted sections to remind me the order of the steps. TIME REQUIRED - The whole process for two vehicles with small chips took about 45 minutes from when I opened the package and started to read the instructions. My next repair would take only about 20 minutes, which counts the steps of waiting for 5 minutes, then waiting for 10 minutes. KIT INCLUDES - Everything you really need. I also used my own (optional) heat gun, but a warm blow-dryer would probably work better with less risk of extending cracks because of thermal expansion. QUALITY - The repair is sturdy and smooth, and I'm confident it will prevent further cracking and spreading. For an at-home kit, this one deserves full marks. I probably could have slightly better visual results by going to a professional shop (duh?) and having someone do it who has done this 100 times. The two chips I did are still slightly visible in the center, but even the ones that I got repaired last year at a glass place are still slightly visible. Honestly, in this area it's hard to compare apples to apples, so-to-speak. I probably should have taken before/after photos, but just "after" photos don't do much justice. I already bought another to have on hand. Definitely worth it. ... show more

  • Great instructions, but needs more suction power, solid overall design
Style: Pack of 1 Color: Clear
The rainy season brought lots of debris on the road and we ended up with two cracks on our windshield. I watched a Project Farm video on options for windshield repair and had tried the Permatex and Rain-X windshield kits. The pros of the Permatex was the increase of pressure with the syringe. The pros of the Rain-X was the ease of use. The Permatex was only able to use for one repair. The Rain-X has enough supplies for up to 6-8 repairs. I did have to get a replacement kit, as the first kit came with the resin bottle lid cracked and the resin had spilled out. The Rain-X did an overall decent job of pushing the resin into most of the crack, but did not fill all the spiderweb of cracks. I tried a single light LED UV light, but it was not enough power, so ended up taking the car outside and the resin was solid after just over 10 minutes. Make sure to scrap off at a 90 degree angle back and forth, and not just try to scrap off at a 45 degree angle. It's a decent kit overall to reduce the legs of the crack, and recommend tightening and loosening the pressure screw to make sure as much resin fills into the cracks before setting it with UV light. ... show more

  • Working, but not strong
Style: Pack of 1 Color: Clear
It seems working, but one leg of the tool broken, so I can not try one more time. I guess if I tried again, the glass will be fixed .
