Everyone in the family finds this drum compelling. If it’s out of the case, someone is always tapping on it. The tone is mellow the sound that carries through the house is welcome and soothing. It has the quality of a high-end wind chime or small gong. Some notes are a little flat or muddy sounding, but altogether it’s so much nicer than I imagined. Overall a great drum. The tone is pretty good, can be a bit sharp at times. Great resonace and volume. Mallets aren't great, I'm going to try to beef up the beaters a little bit and find a different set if that doesn't help. The finger things are not good or necessary.
