I tried this helmet in both medium and large - and neither fit very well. So I went to a store to try on some other helmets and compare this one to some others and what I found is that while the inside of other half-shells are oval to accommodate a human head, the inside of *this* helmet is round - that's why it felt weird, no matter the size and that's why it looked like a mushroom top on my head. I know that unless the half-shell helmet is a "novelty" helmet w/o any padding etc, it wont sit flush against your head & there is a chance it can look like a mushroom top even with a good fit - but the fact that the inside of this is round, made the fitting & mushroom-y shape even worse. I also didnt like the fact that there was no protection for your chin against the pinching of the D-ring & strap; and also, the visor had room to move back & forth on the outside snaps, and up & down on the middle snap -- but the middle snap section had so much play in it that the damn visor wouldnt stay in the lowered position I wanted it - the wind would blow it back up. To be fair, it is only about 1/2 inch difference, but on those sunny days when you could use the visor in its lowest position, popping back up is *not* cool. The vents & removable neck curtain were very cool - but they didnt make up for the wonky visor & ill-shaped insides. Also, I dont honestly believe this is DOT approved. The DOT on the back is literally just a "D" sticker, a "O" sticker, and a "T" sticker - not the normal "DOT Approved" raised sticker with the "official" numbers on it. Whether I am mistaken or not, it was still enough to make me question the safety of the helmet - and that coupled with the other things I didnt like about it prompted me to return it. I then went to a store, paid $15 more than this one, and got a helmet that I *know* fits right, that I *know* looks good (read: not like a mushroom top), and that I *know* is DOT approved. ... show more

I bought this helmet about two years ago and have used it dozens of times. It is well made and handled a number of drops without significant damage. If you are riding in warmer weather (like I do down here in South Florida) the open ear design of a half helmet like this one is much cooler than a full helmet. In the winter time, the zip on ear covers are very nice to have when the temperature drops. Little vents built into the helmet offer a bit more air flow inside the helmet at higher speeds. Aside from the cosmetic issues (see posts on mushroom look), at higher speeds, air tends to get under the helmet and want to lift it off your head. This is exacerbated by a shield, and you have to avoid looking up and keep the front part of the helmet down to avoid it flying up at freeway speeds. Fits ok for a small. If I unzip the ear protector the helmet doesnt fit very well almost too small. Should of bought a medium Needs a quick release on the strap not a standard strap ....

I was happy to receive my helmet until I started looking at the quality and workmanship. The vent holes and labeling looks like they were lined up by a drunk 2nd grader. How hard is it to line up vent holes and the label??? If my girlfriend hadn't wore it already I would be sending it back and asking for my money back. I'm glad I bought it as a spare and since she likes to do this weird thing with her hair in a bun I guess it'll work out. I would show you the picture with her wearing it but she would kill me. Lets just put it this way she's a red headed mushroom top. Actually she and I quote, "looks like condom head". ... show more

One of the things I was pleasantly surprised by is just how light this helmet actually is! Also, it gets great air-flow both because of its size, and the 2 airflow intakes just above the visor. I also attached a G9 Communication system to it, and the ear covers actually have a velcro pouch which were the perfect size for the speakers to be inserted. If I had to list a con, it would probably be that the air intake holes have sliding covers, and those covers slide too easily accidentally closing sometimes (this is very easily fixed however). Also, if you're going to get a face-shield I highly recommend reading the reviews on each before purchasing. Many of the cheap ones leak badly if you happen to get stuck in the rain, but that's a different review on a different product. All in all, very very satisfied - especially for the price! ... show more

I bought this helmet on Amazon. I used the sizing information on the company web site, and that said I should order a medium. So I ordered a medium using the pull down menu on Amazon. The product description says Large, but I assumed that you could order other sizes since that option is given. I was sent a large, which turned out to fit just fine, so I lucked out. I've never had a half helmet before, and it feels snug, which it should for crash protection. I like the helmet, it's comfortable and looks good. I can't use the visor since it won't fit in my under seat storage bin (the whole reason I bought a half helmet). The 4 stars is for the product itself. The sizing information is confusing at best. Raider should fix the listing to accurately reflect what they are selling. My guess is that they ship you a large no matter what the pull down says. ... show more
