  • All The Instruction Needed for Making Rag Rugs
This great book contains all the instruction needed to make beautiful rag rugs for every room in your home. There are ovals, rectangles, hearts, and a few made from simple blocks sewn together. On some of the projects fringe is added and on others, borders. The best part? They're all easy to make, easy enough for beginners, using single and double crochet, and a Q hook. McNeill spends a few pages at the beginning of the book to give a brief history of rug-making, which is followed by "Basic Tips" where all we need to know about: materials used/needed, cutting or tearing strips, different methods for joining the fabric strips, single crochet, double crochet, slip stitch, changing colors, and the finished edge is outlined and illustrated. The Look Inside feature shows a bit of each of the 16 projects in the book. I grew up watching my mom crochet rag rugs using old clothing. She painstakingly removed buttons, zippers, sewed together the cut strips, and then crocheted throughout the winter months. Toward the end of her life, I tried to teach her to join her strips using the slit method, which I thought was easier than sewing the strips together, but she'd have none of it. She did it the way she had always done. Whichever way you choose to join your strips, whether you use yardage of fabric, recycled clothing, or old sheets to make your rugs, the instructions within this book will see you to the end of a beautiful finished product. ... show more

  • So easy, and sustainable craft.
This book is so easy to learn the patterns from and you can even wing and create your own. Very happy with my purchase. I love taking old bedsheets and fabric reamnants, instead of throwing them away, I can give them new life in a beautiful handmade rug. I have made many rugs, and have given them as gifts and even sold some too. ... show more

  • Ideas for crocheting rag rugs.
This is a slim book with less than helpful instructions. I would have appreciated more hints and helps on how to handle the materials. Of course, anyone making a rag rug will have to find and select their own cloth and clothing, which will vary in size and shape etc., but the author offers very little guidance on how to select, cut up and use clothing and other materials nor how to handle crocheting with huge hooks. Only one hook size Q is mentioned, but obviously, other sizes might work too, depending on the thickness of fabric strips. When one reads "sew ends together", with no hints as to how to do this, it's a head scratcher. I am experienced and can probably figure things out, but this book offers little assistance to beginners. Also, some of the rugs do not seem well made. There are several contributors, some obviously more proficient than others. ... show more

  • Great book, easy instructions.
Loved the book; ran out of needed material so rug ended a little smaller than I wanted.
