Description

Roots always seem to get in the way of digging, whether you expect them or not. Once you switch to the Root Slayer you might not even notice them most of the time. The Root Slayer is really a multi-purpose shovel that can eliminate the need for other tools, such as hatchets, pry-bars, and saws, when simply digging around the home. If you've ever hit roots while trying to plant a perennial, or been stymied by roots when trying to dig up a shrub, you'll know what we're talking about. You can use the Root Slayer as your go-to shovel. You can also use it to replace your nursery spade. Think of it as a shovel, root hatchet, and root saw all in one tool. The Root Slayer is 44.5 inches from the tip of the blade to the top of the grip. The blade is 2.5mm thick (just thicker than 13 gauge) and just under 13 inches long, with 3.5 inch steps. It weighs 5.4 pounds.

  • Game changer this root slayer!
Style: Root Slayer XL
Title: Clearing Green Giants With Root Slayer - A Game Changer For Gardening Veterans and Casuals Alike Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5) I am writing this review fueled by profound admiration, respect, and surprise, carried in the sturdy metal hands of the Root Slayer. This was not only my preferred tool for uprooting a particularly stubborn bush in my yard but also a magnificent symbol of design, functionality, and superior quality. The Root Slayer's effectiveness is a notch above standard shovels and speaks volumes about its intelligent and practical design. It's like an empowering extension of your will over green behemoths, making you feel like a gardening superhero. As someone who has toiled with many standard shovels, the sheer efficiency of the Root Slayer has shattered my expectations of what a gardening tool can achieve. One fantastic feature is its patented blade design - built to cut through the toughest of roots. This technology sets the Root Slayer apart from its competitors, ushering in a sense of invincibility in the face of notorious root networks. I was particularly impressed by how smoothly and cleanly the Root Slayer managed to extract a bush that had held command over my garden for far too long. The edges of the blade are toothed to ensure more significant cutting power and allow for an easier, less back-breaking experience. The strength and durability of this tool are unmatched. The material feels robust, yet it retains a weight balance making it comfortable to handle during prolonged use. Ergonomics-wise, this tool truly shines. It is designed to reduce stress on your hands and back, making your gardening tasks less of a chore and more of a enjoyable venture. Usually, uprooting a stubborn shrub is a daunting task, but the Root Slayer turned it into a recreational activity. It's safe to say that it does not merely live up to its name but surpasses it, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the realm of gardening. In conclusion, the Root Slayer is comprehensively better than a standard shovel. Its distinct features and stellar performance make it an asset for every gardener, be it a seasoned professional or a casual enthusiast. The Root Slayer is not just a tool; it's a revolution in the gardening domain, picking a fight with roots, and winning every single round. For anyone looking to uproot the seemingly impossible, look no further than the Root Slayer. This tool is a game-changer. ... show more

  • Great Shovel
Style: Root Slayer XL
I purchased this shovel to extend a row of evergreens along my propertyline. Live in older home with mature trees so many roots to deal with. This shovel is amazing. It makes quick work of smaller roots. It's Heavy compared to my other long handle shovel but very strong so can pry loosened dirt without worrying about breaking handle. Works best for digging and loosening dirt, Used a wide blade shovel to get loosened soil out of hole. ... show more

  • Works!
Style: Root Slayer
At first I thought it was too heavy but the weight helps with digging. Looks very sturdy. Round handle comfortable. Looks cool. Sharp. Con- It's hard to lift dirt out because of the narrow width. Not meant for that.

  • WOW, what an amazing tool!
Style: Root Slayer XL
This tool has been a life (and back) saver!!! It's worth its weight in gold to me. Here in Hawaii we have what's commonly called "cane grass", an introduced invasive grass that is extremely persistent and very difficult to dig up and eradicate. This tool has made easy work of it! I'm so impressed with the quality, durability, and functional design .. one of the best, most useful gardening/landscape tools I've ever purchased, HIGHLY recommend it! ... show more

  • A word of caution about overenthusiastically jabbing into thicker roots - ouch!
Style: Root Slayer
Downgrading my rating from 5 to 4 stars after using it a few times due to quite painful shock through the handle. Don't get me wrong - the shovel is of great quality, heavy weight, and the saw teeth on the side are effective. However, I need to adjust my technique due to the round handle, which is so comfortable I instinctively hold on to it. I have hurt my hand twice (not on the same day) while jabbing into thick roots while holding on to the circular handle. The impact shock transmitted to the hand holding onto the ring, was quite painful. I never had this issue with straight shaft handles because the impact shock would only be felt if holding the very top of the shovel, which I wouldn't do. I need to be more careful. It is better, in my opinion, to use an axe to chop through roots, or long handled loppers, or a pruning saw that you don't mind ruining from the dirt. Let the shovel cut through incidental smaller roots, but don't attack larger roots with it - and if you do, hold on to the shaft part, not the circular ring. The palm pad of my right thumb is still quite tender from injury 36 hours ago. ... show more

  • Strong and VERY functional, particularly on roots
Style: Root Slayer
These spades are awesome....almost makes you lazy due to the sharpness, the saw-teeth sides and the depth of the spade in the soil. Well executed.

  • Truly amazing
Style: Root Slayer
Our soil is like cement. You can’t even tell from the picture how bad it is. I was worried this shovel would be too heavy for me to use, cause when you lift it it feels heavy. BUT when I went to use it ..amazing! Cuts into the worst soil and then the heft and the circle handle allows for leverage to move the dirt. It scoops, but a regular shovel on hand helped with that. Worth the price. ... show more
